23.01.2022 The team at Send Hope has lost a friend and a champion in Melissa Nielsen 16.8.81 10.6.20. Melissa, pictured right, was a mum of three, a loving wife, a great friend to many and an invaluable member of the Miller Harris Laywers team in Cairns. Melissa was one of Send Hope’s most hardworking fundraisers, and friends and family can choose to honour her memory by making a donation in her name at www.sendhope.org We hope to use these donations to fund a meaningful tribute to Melissa in the coming months, in consultation with her family. She was so proud of the positive impact she made through Send Hope and we will miss her deeply.

20.01.2022 Tonight we joined a virtual celebration of every generous thought, kind deed, and determination to make the world a kinder place of our friend and champion Melissa Nielsen. Gone far too soon.

20.01.2022 Who’s heard this on repeat since COVID emerged? In PNG, the message to wash hands, and the supply of clean birth kits to assist women in childbirth, is something our midwife partners at @living_child_inc work hard to promote. It helps more mothers give birth safely. So we are definitely pro-hand washing for all sorts of reasons! #washyourhands #safebirth #sendhopenotflowers #livingchild #midwives #PNG

19.01.2022 To all the families who chose to celebrate their beautiful mums by donating to help save the life of another mum, we salute you. All mothers deserve the chance to raise their babies. And yet global maternal mortality figures show the tragedy of childbirth. This year, more than 300,000 woman lost their lives while trying to bring a new life into the world. For every dollar raised from our Mother’s Day card sales, we say thank you. And to all the mums out there today, we send our love. #sendhopenotflowers #maternalhealth #mothersday #love #thankyou

But also sending love to every single nurse out there. Because you are all incredible. 15.01.2022 When I die, this place will go on for many, many years until we have eradicated fistula altogether until every woman in Ethiopia is assured of a safe delivery and a live baby. Dr Catherine Hamlin. Our admiration for this woman knows no bounds. We join with all others in the maternal health sphere who mourn her loss. #catherinehamlin #catherinehamlinfistulafoundation #safebirth #maternalhealth #legend #saintofaddisababa

14.01.2022 THANK YOU I=Change This incredible organization allows brands to donate to charities they love. We’ve been receiving regular injections of much-needed funding from I=Change for several years now and every dollar helps us make a difference to the health and experience of women giving birth in the developing world. As for the brands that have chosen to support us? 08.01.2022 Sometimes we run out of superlatives to describe Dr Barry Kirby. Here he is donating blood this morning after an Esa’ala mother required an urgent transfusion following complications from childbirth. No blood at the hospital meant Dr Barry donated his own. If this sort of selfless dedication to saving the lives of mums in PNG fills you with emotion and you want to help, you can make a donation to Dr Barry directly on our website. He also performs the before and after birth care, the emergency medical procedures, oh, and flies the plane in and out of the remote islands of PNG (once he is standing upright). Again, we simply have no words. #sendhopenotflowers #drbarrykirby #drbarrykirbyisalegend #thehandsofrescue @thehandsofrescue #png #donateblood #safebirth #maternalhealth

08.01.2022 What to say in the midst of the COVID19 pandemic? It’s hard to find the right words other than to express how deeply we fee for the mothers around the globe who are bringing new life into the world at a time when it doesn’t feel safe to do so. We have reached a new understanding of how connected we all are, and how fragile life can be as a result of this global crisis. We send love to the pregnant, labouring and new mums out there and to the dedicated health professionals who continue to put duty and compassion before self. #midwives #doctors #birthattendants #thankyou #sendhopenotflowers #staysafe #stayhome

08.01.2022 We love this column by The Suite Set founder Sally Branson Dalwood, which shows how she has embedded a philanthropic stream within her business. It means that as Sally’s business propers, new mothers who need support to give birth safely are the winners.

07.01.2022 UPDATE! We are back up and running. So sorry for the inconvenience! Dear donors, our server is down today! Hopefully it will be back up tonight, but we are aware some of you wish to donate to Melissa Nielsen’s fund. We apologize for the inconvenience and hope to be able to notify you all when the server is operational again tonight or tomorrow. Thank you.

06.01.2022 It’s been a week since our friend and maternal health champion Melissa Nielsen left us. I just wanted to let her friends and family know that in that time, more than $11,000 has been raised in her honour. The money will be used to fund a major project to mark Melissa’s contribution to help more mothers survive childbirth across PNG. It is an incredible response befitting an incredible woman. Thank you everyone.

04.01.2022 We celebrate women every single day. That’s why we work so hard to ensure more of them can survive childbirth. And we hope that by drawing attention to maternal mortality and systemic gender inequity around the globe, that little girls like this one can grow up in a world where they don’t risk their lives when they give birth to their own babies. That is our dream. Happy IWD from us to you. #sendhopenotflowers #iwd #iwd2020 #mothers #maternalhealth #safebirth #charity @karleenminneyphotographer
