25.01.2022 Throughout 2020 and the COVID-19 pandemic, we have seen older people affected at a disproportionate rate and, unfortunately, we have also witnessed ageist attitudes and entrenched stereotypes. EveryAGE Counts is giving us an opportunity to seize this moment, and tackle ageism an issue which affects us all. Next Tuesday, November 24, join activist and author, Ashton Applewhite, and Australian media all-rounder, Jane Caro, for a FREE webinar discussing how we can challenge a...nd dismantle ageism in our society. The time for change is now. Let's build a world without ageism. Register for the webinar at https://www.everyagecounts.org.au/beyond_2020_register and respond "Going" to the Facebook invitation below to receive reminders as the event approaches.

13.01.2022 Australia’s oldest person is celebrating his 111th birthday today! Happy birthday Dexter Kruger! His advice after over a century of living and learning? "Don't fill your brain with other people's thoughts to the exclusion of your own."

10.01.2022 "The research concluded that lifting weights could slow down, or even halt, in some cases, brain degeneration in those people most at risk of developing Alzheimer's." Groundbreaking research published earlier this year has highlighted the benefits of strength training for people in the earliest stages of Alzheimer's disease. Dean Mawby from Real Strength Studio has developed Strong Body Strong Mind, a 12-week exercise program designed for people who have shown a decline in me...mory and cognitive capacity. Time and again, we are reminded of the importance of keeping our minds and bodies healthy, but we sometimes forget that these two practices can often go hand-in-hand. For more information on the program, contact Dean on 0411 589 288 or visit the Real Strength website: https://www.realstrengthstudio.com/

09.01.2022 Tomorrow, November 25, is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, and the start of the United Nations initiative '16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence'. It’s also the 12th Walk Against Family Violence, an annual event by Respect Victoria and Safe Steps Family Violence Response Centre to raise awareness about family violence and violence against women. In true COVID-19 style, this year's walk will look a little different: participants... are being asked to 'walk from home'. So, walk around the block, to a local park with a friend, or find a small group in your area to join in with - you choose! Register for the walk here https://walk.safesteps.org.au/, wear orange, and walk your way to greater awareness! Let’s show our support for survivors and send a message across Victoria that family and domestic violence is never okay. #WAFV2020 #RespectIs #16DaysCampaign #CallItOut

07.01.2022 I am thrilled today to announce the launch of my new report 'Ageing Well in a Changing World'. Supporting older people to age well must become a priority... Not only because it is the right thing to do for seniors and their loved ones, but because it's beneficial for our society as a whole. Writing this report, and hearing from thousands of senior Victorians about their experiences of what it means to age well, has been an enormous privilege for me. I have embraced this oppo...rtunity with both hands, and am delighted to be sharing my findings with you all today. Please take some time to read the full report at https://www.seniorsonline.vic.gov.au/ageing-well and I’d be happy to answer your questions in the comments section below. Please also join me for the launch at 4pm on Facebook Live to hear more.
