25.01.2022 "Poetry teaches us to wrestle with and simplify complexity" "Poetry can also help develop a more acute sense of empathy" "Reading and writing poetry also develops creativity" Sounds like poetry could be a very valuable way of working and thinking given current challenges and the complex issues we are facing in the world.... In creative coaching and art therapy, I use poetry as a process to reduce and gain clarity about new learnings (I use poetry in a very loose form, no rhyming required!). It's always astonishing what emerges in these reduced snippets, no matter how complex and often challenging the topic we work with is. I am delighted to see more evidence around the benefits of poetry in the context of business and leadership as well! And I love my found poetry workshops. Each time, participants create such wonderful and personal accounts of their experiences. #creativity #personaldevelopement #selfknowledge #empathyatwork #coaching https://hbr.org/2012/11/the-benefits-of-poetry-for-pro

24.01.2022 My latest blog post talks about reasons why many of us unlearn our creativity as adults and what we can do about it. A longitudinal study has shown that perceived creativity among kids drops from 98% at around five years old to just 12% for 15-year-olds. For adults... it has fallen to 2%! Find out about the reasons behind the 'creative decline' and what you can do to strengthen your creativity. Nothing is lost, but our creative muscle needs training!... https://www.sensemakingspace.com/JournalArticles.html

02.01.2022 A timely read on Burnout Awareness Day 2020. Burnout isn't something that only affects perfectionists as it's sometimes still suggested. Burnout isn't only hitting you when you dislike your job.... Burnout is also more complex than physical exhaustion. Other ingredients are relational tensions in the workplace and a profound sense of loss of control and meaning. But busyness and an overwhelming load contribute to burnout. Our addiction to busyness as a sign of productivity, influence or success is hampering our ability for deep work and creativity, and has serious implications for our mental health, physical and emotional wellbeing. "The idea is to balance linear thinkingwhich requires intense focuswith creative thinking, which is borne out of idleness. Switching between the two modes seems to be the optimal way to do good, inventive work." #creativity #mentalhealth #stressmanagement #burnoutprevention #burnout #emotionalresilience #wellbeingatwork #positivepsychology #emotionalwellbeing https://qz.com//happiness-research-shows-the-biggest-obs/
