24.01.2022 2846'31.4"S 11436'12.0"E ________________________________ Last weekend I took my camera out with the sole intention of taking photos for the first time in almost a year, it was a great feeling to be back out shooting. ... Along with Louise & Upchurch we head into the CBD of Geraldton to catch both golden & blue hour. I had a list of spots I wanted to shoot pre-planned out. We also ventured to locations I had no idea existed. I was running out of light when I came across the jetty for once this summer it was empty. I couldn't pass up the opportunity. I have other photos from the afternoon that I will surely post at some time or another. But until then have one of my favourites from the day.
22.01.2022 3145'42.8"S 11543'41.0"E ___________________________ It has been almost 3 years since I took these photos. I recently started another Instagram account for my E30 adventures. Here's hoping I can make a start on getting it back up and running in then next year.... If you want to follow a more candid less curated adventure of mine jump on over to @dumbbluedog. Things are slow going at the moment but I actually have a plan in place it's just finding the time to act on it.
20.01.2022 2846'29.9"S 11436'36.4"E ___________________________ Last weekend I caught up with a few mates to watch Mark attempt the rail outside the old SGIO building. Was a good excuse to get the camera out and definitely an interesting way to be introduced to someone for the first time.
18.01.2022 3157'26.4"S 11551'29.0"E ___________________________ I thoroughly enjoy street photography. But I also question the moral ethics that come from photographing strangers. The thought that goes through my head whenever I raise the camera to a stranger is; Imagine being photographed at your worst, with no context and then having that photo shared online only to have people you've never even met make comments and assumptions about your life. ... Don't get me wrong some of my favorite photos are of strangers in the street. But I feel that taking a photo of someone down on their luck or sleeping on a street corner somewhere, in hopes of personal gain is something a lot of us do because it has worked in the past. I'm guilty of this when I got my first camera because they were the photos people were sharing. It's not hard to ask someone to take their photo if you really wanna show their features. Maybe buy them a drink or just have a chat and ask, offer to give them the photo afterwards. I'm not going to stop taking photos of people because of the moral ethics of it. But I've taken steps to be more courteous of it. If I can't work up the courage to talk to them I will try photograph them in a way that limits defining features or avoiding taking the photo altogether if someone looks like they are having a rough day. Anyway enough of why the only portraits I post are of my partner and friends. These are photos from the Night Noodle Markets in 2017.
11.01.2022 3203'31.1"S 11544'40.9"E ________________________________________ So it's been over a month since my last post. The last month has been a bit of a rough one. Christmas and new years were not great and then the past few weeks I have been back at work. Not a whole lot of time to dedicate to photography. But this year I want that to be different. I am working on a personal project in an attempt to get my passion back for something I love. ... Last year was rough with everything that happened with the motorsport scene and myself in Perth just pushed me to dislike photography in general (I definitely could of handled myself better). That was when I realised that I was shooting for everyone else and not for myself. Since then it has been hard to want to pick up the camera because a subject I once loved to shoot felt strange and foreign to me again. I'm starting to finally find my feet again and taking my camera with me more often when I leave the house this time it's because I want too not because I'm expected too. For those of you who have stuck by me and supported me through my journey so far and are still here I appreciate all of you. Hopefully this year is a little more adventurous.
11.01.2022 2846'20.9"S 11436'37.2"E - 12|12|2019 _________________________________ Thursday night was "Christmas on the Terrace" here in Geraldton. This is where I met Jeff from the Geraldton Greenough SES.... We got chatting and Jeff told me that for the past 20 years he had been competing in archery and Swordsmanship contests at various medieval fairs around the state. Last month he assisted in a 3-day search before returning to town to assist with the bushfires. He expressed his relief at the lack of excitement before we parted ways for the evening.
10.01.2022 A small follow up from my last post. There are more but these are the few that I prefer to show. I am still finding my feet again after a hiatus and in doing so I am less confident in my abilities.
09.01.2022 2846'56.3"S 11443'20.2"E ___________________________ 10 minutes out of town, past the airport lies a little general store. ... I've never been to the store while they have been trading. But there is something about a locked up store in the middle of nowhere that has a quaint charm to it. Perhaps it is reminiscent of the similar stores I grew up passing in my youth driving between the home town and the city. I can only imagine there is a bain-marie somewhere in there with a 7 hour old cheese sausage and a Mrs Mac's beef pie. Much like the ones we would stop at when I was younger.
