23.01.2022 The swimmers take their mark as the sun rises over The Strand #thestrand#townsvilleshines#sunrise

22.01.2022 So simple & pretty, this made my day. #townsvilleshines#thestrand#abandonedart#nature

21.01.2022 I took a different direction today & came across the Doug Tarca memorial ‘bombie’, overlooking Ross Creek. Doug was a pioneer in the Reef Tourism industry & is best remembered for his Yellow Submarine & the world’s first floating hotel. #townsvilleshines#greatbarrierreef#sunrise#castlehill

20.01.2022 It has been a busy couple of weeks with so many wonderful festivals & events happening in our city. I always like to go to Strand Ephemera & see the amazing display of installation art.

20.01.2022 Townsville really shines in the cooler months!! The V8 Supercars’ were awesome, and now we look forward to 10 days of concerts for the Australian Festival of Chamber Music. My favourite time still seems to be the early morning, and there’s always something interesting happening on The Strand. #townsvilleshines#australianfestivalofchambermusic#longboardpaddling#sunriseyoga#castlehill

18.01.2022 We’re feeling a little excited as it looks like a sunbird has finally chosen our patch to build a home. It’s amazing to see it fly in, poke a bit of something in, and dart away as quickly as it came. I love watching it from my vantage point in the window, flitting around the garden foraging for interesting bits with which to furnish its nest. It already looks like some of Ewok’s long grey fur is in there!

16.01.2022 I am so grateful we were high and dry, but my heart is torn for our city. We are so thankful to everyone for their selfless support in responding to this emergency and helping us on the long journey of recovery.

14.01.2022 I was looking for birds to add to my Aussie Backyard Bird Count when this little goanna wandered across my garden path. #townsvilleshines#aussiewildlife

11.01.2022 Police officers utilised Townsville City Council workers and vehicles to ferry members of the public to safety during the monsoon’s heavy rainfall which eventua...ted in flooded roads becoming unsafe for cars to travel on. These were very extreme circumstances in which the risk to the lives of Queenslanders was imminent. Here are some officers sharing their experiences. #bigwet

07.01.2022 It's all happening in Townsville this winter, as two major cultural festivals arrive in the city! For more details, head to http://bit.ly/CulturalTownsville

07.01.2022 Elton John was awesome in concert last time he played in Townsville

06.01.2022 Guests this week are being treated to a special aerial show as Operation Black Dagger unfolds overhead. It’s a privilege to be able to sit on my front veranda and watch the fighter jets go through their manoeuvres. Never get tired of hearing the sound of the F18 Hornets.

06.01.2022 As the severe weather warnings increased and major flood warnings for the Townsville region were released on Fri 01 Feb 19, 4 Regt were ready and responded quic...kly. As the first wave of soldiers from 3 Bde out on the ground, 4 Regt quickly established contact with emergency services and Townsville City Council in Railway Estate, Rosslea, Hermit Park and Mundingburra suburbs, allocating priority of work to sandbagging homes and notifying residents of the flood risk. Traversing flowing water and navigating obstacles within the area, with the main effort being placed on assisting the elderly and those unable to prepare their houses. The weather situation continued to deteriorate over the first afternoon and the following days, and tasks quickly turned to evacuating stranded residents and pets, utilising bushmasters to transit down the flooded streets to assist carrying people to safety as streets quickly became fast flowing waterways. Working through the night of 02 Feb and 03 Feb 19, 4 Regt assisted in the evacuation of over 800 men, women and children from some of the worst flood affected areas of Townsville, often wading through chest-deep or higher flood water to reach those in need. A forward headquarters was established at TAFE Pimlico on Sunday, providing a base of operations for 4 Regt who were working around the clock to conduct emergency evacuations. Further coordination was then conducted out of TAFE Pimlico with a QPS LO arrival, to streamline the response of 4 Regt forces in the affected areas. As the risk to residents increased, 4 Regt conducted welfare checks in conjunction with QPS as well as evacuating further residents who later nominated to leave. 4 Regt is now postured to assist in the clean-up effort of local infrastructure and hard waste collection in support of the Townsville City Council in order to assist the greater Townsville community to recover. Over the past week, the resilience and teamwork of the Regiment has been tested and every soldier has stood up to collectively make a significant contribution in Townsville’s time of need.

04.01.2022 We saw the smash hit musical ‘We Will Rock You’ on the weekend. Presented by the Townsville Choral Society, it was an awesome performance by the multi-talented cast and musicians. I think we were all singing along at the end! We caught the local bus to and from the Townsville Entertainment Centre, stopping off at Hogs Breath at the old railway precinct for an early meal on the way. A fun night out! Happy Birthday Ray! #wewillrockyou#townsvillechoralsociety#sunbus#festival2018

03.01.2022 JT has played his last home game, but I'm sure that's not the last we see of him. A different way of honoring the 'Goat' - Greatest Of All Time!

02.01.2022 It’s been a busy week in Townsville for Festival 2018. The container art in Strand Park is amazing, and the weather is glorious! #festival2018#townsvilleshines#grafittiart#thestrand

02.01.2022 What joy the rain brings to the parched earth and soul. We'd finished spreading a load of mulch when it started raining Sunday afternoon, and so far we’ve had 91mm with more predicted. Love the sound of the rain on the tin roof. #rainingintownsville#townsvilleshines#gardengrows

01.01.2022 The Old Court House has now been installed with energy efficient lights as part of Council's broader push to brighten up Townsville's CBD. This comes after the... George Roberts Bridge, Victoria Bridge and the Townsville Sign biing lit up earlier this year. These lights can be programmed to display any colour sequence which can suit any theme or events that Council or the Theatre are holding at the time.

01.01.2022 I really enjoyed participating in the Aussie Backyard Bird Count for the first time. Over the week I did 8 x 20 min counts and saw 15 species of birds that I could positively identify. Many others were spotted but couldn’t be recognized. Awesome to have such diversity in our small patch of paradise!
