14.01.2022 SILICONE BUILD UP Silicone is almost like rubber or plastic. It is used as a sealant against water & even air. It is NOT a natural ingredient & its side eff...ects are bad for our hair. It gives the hair the illusion of shine, but it is not the shine we want, it is a fake shine from the plastic. Silicone will weigh the hair down, making it limp, lifeless & with time, very dull. It prevents moisture from penetrating the hair shaft & becomes like a magnet for dirt & other ingredients. With time it will dry the hair out because it won’t allow in the conditioner & it ends up sitting on the surface. Due to lack of moisture, the hair will become very brittle & could lead to frizz & breakage. Colouring with silicone on the hair can be challenging. As silicone coats the hair & creates a barrier, this not only makes it harder for the colour or bleach to penetrate the hair due to the build-up, but can also cause a chemical reaction that can cause some serious damage. In foils it can be a disastrous, as foil keeps the heat, & with a chemical reaction heat occurs, so you can just imagine how hot the foils get, usually they will be hot to touch & may even cause the foils to swell & leak. With hair that isn’t blonde the colour has to eat through an extra layer before even reaching the hair, which will likely lead to your colour fading a lot quicker & not achieving great results. If you are investing in a colouring service, it is so important to then invest in some quality home care products. If you do think you have a silicone build up, we would always suggest a detox/clarify home care plan to remove unwanted build up to get your hair back on the right track.
