24.01.2022 I started pruning some espaliered fruit trees today that had been neglected for some time. They had not been pruned properly for so long that a branch had grown around an espalier wire - see photo. Amazing - but not good for the tree or for training on that wire in the future. Had to resort to some drastic "surgery" to start getting them back in shape.

23.01.2022 These are before and after photos of a garden area just developed by Serenity Home and Garden Support. This was done for an older client with some mobility and sight issues who desperately wanted to continue gardening - but in a safe environment. Hence the ramped access, hand rails all around, raised beds, flat walking surfaces etc. The elderly who like to garden should be able to do so given the right structures, environment etc.

22.01.2022 Cleaning of spouting recently completed by Serenity Home and Garden Support. To ensure the longest possible life for your spouting, dont let leaves and other debris lay in it during the wet winter months. Ring now for assistance - 0402 003302.

20.01.2022 The weather in Warragul today was terrible. Only about 8 degrees, windy and raining. But with the help of some good warm wet weather gear I managed to get these lipstick maples planted along a driveway. They will look great when they come into leaf, and even better in the Autumn. If you have any larger scale planting projects in mind I have access to wholesale nursery prices. Give me a call on 0402 003 302.

20.01.2022 A rental property garden clean up recently completed by Serenity Home and Garden Support.

19.01.2022 At Serenity Home and Garden we like a nicely trimmed hedge. This was a good "heart starter" job on a beautiful morning this morning. Give us a call if you need hedges trimmed - 0402 003 302.

19.01.2022 We had a crack at laying synthetic turf today. Thanks to David Skewes at Gecko Surfacing Solutions for the assistance and advice. This was done in the back yard of a retirement unit. An excellent zero maintenance solution in an area like this.

18.01.2022 The recent Federal budget announced a reduction in aged care funding of $1.4 billion over the next four years. This is a disgrace of course, but after managing aged care facilities for a few years it comes as no surprise. A Federal politician once unashamedly told me that aged care would never get the funding it needs because there are no votes in it. So we have a rapidly growing elderly population, and a reduction in govt funding to care for them. This is one reason why Sere...nity Home and Garden Support was created. Many elderly people can continue living independenly in their own homes in safety and comfort - provided that they get the right individually tailored support. Serenity Home and Garden can provide a lot of that support, and we have contacts and alliances with other businesses who can help where we cant - such as personal care and meal provision etc. If you are elderly, or have an elderly family member, call for an obligation free discussion about the options that are available. Phone 0402 003302. See more

18.01.2022 This was the view from "the office" this morning. No sunshine but still a great spot to be cleaning up garden beds - high in the hills at Yarragon South.

18.01.2022 Serenity Home and Garden Support has been busy tidying up gardens after a very dry summer, and in preparation for the cold weather to come. Now is a great time for new plantings, perhaps to replace plants that didnt survive the hot, dry months. It is also a great time for a general tidy up and soil rejuvenation. Give me a call if you need a hand with any jobs in the garden - 0402 003302. "We will do the chores. You enjoy the Serenity."

17.01.2022 A better picture of the lipstick maples that were shown in my earlier post. Im a better gardener that I am a photographer!!

14.01.2022 "Makindye" is a beautiful garden at Jindivick that I help to maintain. The garden will be open on 22nd October between 10am and 4pm. A $10 entry fee at the gate will allow you to wander through this wonderful garden at your leisure, with all proceeds going to Vision Australia. 1.5 acres with over 200 roses plus clematis, irises, lillies and more. You can even enjoy a Devonshire tea. Just one word of warning - be on the look out for the wild life (see photo).

13.01.2022 Serenity Home and Garden is very pleased to advise that we have been awarded a three year contract to maintain the grounds of the West Gippsland Healthcare Group sites in Warragul. Those sites are the Warragul hospital and the Community and Allied Health centre in the Warragul CBD. Thanks to the West Gippsland Healthcare Group for providing this opportunity to a small local business. We are looking forward to improving the presentation of the lawns and gardens at these very important community assets.

13.01.2022 For a little while now I have been employing, on a casual basis, an eighteen year old young lady by the name of Belle. I have done this for several reasons - I need help now and then, I wouldnt mind a holiday sometimes, Belle is very keen on working outdoors and learning about gardening, and if small business can employ a young person then they should. I am hoping that one day I might be able employ her on a full time basis. Some clients have recently suggested that if I emp...loy someone then it is my problem, and they should not have to pay for the work Belle does in their garden. I am sure that the vast majority of my clients (and people in general) will understand how unreasonable this is. Belle works under my supervision and she works hard. Her time will be charged at a discount to what I charge for my own time - but her time will be charged for. Thanks to all of my clients for your support and I look forward to continuing to meet your gardening and home support needs.

11.01.2022 I read today that soil holds twice as much carbon as all the vegetation on Earth. If we want to remove the most CO2 from the atmosphere as possible then we must improve our soil. On average Australian soil holds 1.5% carbon (very low), but gardeners who compost and mulch have carbon levels in their soil of between 5%and 10%. So if you are not adding organic matter to your soil you should start to. Not only will your plants be healthier, but you will also be contributing to stopping the build up of CO2 levels in the atmosphere. Win, win!!

11.01.2022 Serenity Home and Garden Support is looking to hire some help. Are you looking for a casual or part time job? Are you interested in working outside for a local gardening business? You must have some experience of operating powered gardening equipment such as lawn mowers and whipper snippers. You must have a police check and working with children check, or be prepared to get them. You must expect to get home at the end of each day feeling tired and being quite dirty. Award wa...ges paid. Male and female applicants welcomed. No time wasters please - if you have never pushed a lawn mower before please do not apply. Please reply to Craig Stuchbery via Facebook or text details to 0402 003 302. See more

10.01.2022 I worked at Andrews House in Trafalgar today and almost had a passenger on the way home. This is Milo the resident cat who thought the ute was quite comfy. He has apparently gone home with staff members before - in the back seat - without them knowing about it. A very laid back cat.

10.01.2022 This wicking bed has just been constructed by Sernity Home and Garden Support. This is a great way to make the most effective and efficient use of water in a raised garden bed. Virtually no water loss through evaporation, you only have to water (fill the reservoir) evey four to seven days, less risk of fungal disease on plants because they are watered from the roots, not from above. Call if you would like a wicking bed built - 0402 003302.

09.01.2022 I love wisteria when it is in bloom - especially when it is in our own back yard.

08.01.2022 This is part of the front lawn at the Warragul Hospital which was looking very shabby this morning. Just after starting to mow both of our ride on mowers broke down. A big thank you to VC Traders in Warragul for getting one of the mowers back in action so quickly and allowing us to finish the job. Thanks Bec for getting some action happening and thanks Lucas for diagnosing and fixing the issue so quickly. It was very much appreciated.

08.01.2022 Check out the new "beast". Thanks to VC Traders in Warragul for supplying my new John Deere mower with grass catching capability. It has already done quite a bit of work and is going really well.

04.01.2022 This is what happens when you test your luck on the swamp lands at Longwarry. As the saying goes "Bogged to the arse." We eventually got it out but not a productive day for Serenity Home and Garden. Hopefully Monday will be better.

02.01.2022 A very Merry Christmas and a safe and happy New Year to all of my Serenity Home and Garden clients. I have loved working in your gardens during 2019. I am lucky to do what I do in this part of the world. See you in 2020 and in the meantime be happy!!

02.01.2022 The Californian poppies are putting on a show at our place. They can be a bit of a weed but if kept under control they do add a lot of colour to a garden.
