23.01.2022 When you restore or renovate a building which has been correctly designed to begin with, the results can be amazing. This is the Lew Home, by Richard Neutra, which has been revitalised with current finishes, but holds true to its MCM heritage. #midcenturymodern

23.01.2022 Those who know Catherine OConnor and I well enough, know that we have a soft spot for the Solomon Islands. Its such a beautiful country, and we honestly wish... we were able to return to live there again, one day. Those who have been there, know that stray animals are all over the Capital Cities, and that very few have the chance of becoming a family pet. There is only one Veterinary Service in the Solomon Islands, and he is responsible for caring for all the animals in the Country. For several years, the Vet personally served the Country out of his own personal finances, and was provided, by Charity, a place to operate his business. The Nurses all volunteer their time, and literally, do it for the love of the animals. The Vet has undergone a stressful period, and unless funds are provided to him to secure a new place to operate, he will have to leave the Country, and fundamentally abandon all the Pets and Strays in the Country. I know its difficult times for everyone, but anything that you can spare, would help out 100s of family pets, as well as 1000s of stray animals trying to survive in the Solomon Islands. If you can help, please donate what you can. Best Wishes to everyone, stay safe and healthy.

17.01.2022 When you understand the materials that youre working with, you can achieve details and connections like this. No Steel. Using hardwood timber dowels and clever cuts in order to deal with with forces in the member, can deliver an economical and sustainable solution for the Structural Engineering requirements for your building.

16.01.2022 The process of design requires fundamental capabilities around being creative. This is true within both Architecture and Engineering Professions. We cannot be afraid to make mistakes by suppressing our creative abilities. As a Designer, - Architect or Engineer -, maintaining core competencies around being able to design, needs to be reinforced within our daily practices. The creative art of balancing design, around environment, material sciences, and building physics is how w...e all need to be conducting ourselves in the AEC Industry. #structuralengineering #architecture #buildingdesign

13.01.2022 There have been several discussions lately around the future of office and commercial spaces. They will undoubtedly change going forward in a post-covid world. I feel there will be a new model for co-working and businesses co-sharing their facilities with likeminded and collaborative parnters.

09.01.2022 "...most Australians have never lived in a decent house in terms of energy performance. Weve all grown up in 50- or 20-year-old buildings that are pretty awful, and we dont even know what a good building is until we live in it. Coming from Canada, Ive never felt the seasons and weather, as extreme as since Ive arrived here in 2004. Other Professionals who Ive spoken to about this, who are also immigrants/expats/foreigners, also agree with me. Australians do not design, ...nor build, for energy efficient homes. As this articles says, NatHERS, was a big step for when it came out, but it is already outdated, and "eating EUs dust." Time for change. Its time to look at other standards, codes, and regulations which have gotten it right, and then do the right thing for Australia. #passivhaus #passivehouse #APHA #energyefficient #sustainabledesign #Sustainableengineering #ArchitectsDeclare #EngineersDeclare #BuildersDeclare #BeyondZeroEmissions #BZE #ABCB #NCC #BCA #buildingregulations #buildingcode
