23.01.2022 Fitzroy Tigers Futsal Club 113 VIC Friendship Futsal Club FIT E. Parthimos 2, T. Garner 2, A. El Hayek 2, J. Soufis, S. Rogan, L. Stone, S. Gluhak & M. Nguyen FRN R. Davies, A. Phung & D. Sousa... This unpredictable encounter had Fitzroy as the favourites, but of course there are never any real favourites in the SFV, as proven by the previous match. The half kicked off with young tiger Adam El Hayek scoring from the get-go with a nutmeg on the opposing goalkeeper after stripping his opponent of the ball off kick-off. It wasn’t long until teammate Tyler Garner netted a trademark toe-poke to stretch the lead to 2-0 as he returned to the Fitzroy side from Perth. Daniel Sousa would score a fantastic bottom corner long-shot for his Friendship side, but it was Scott Rogan who would unleash the perfect back-heeled assist to teammate Garner for his second of the match. The half ended at 3-1 to Fitzroy, but it was only a matter of time until the tigers feasted on their vulnerable prey. The first half may have ended relatively closely, but it was the second outing that saw the tigers feast on their vulnerable prey. A goal each from Friendships Ryan Davies and Aaron Phung were miniscule to their sides performance as Fitzroy’s Elias Parthimos, Scott Rogan, El Hayek, Jimmy Soufis, Sinan Gluhak, Llewellyn Stone and Michael Nguyen all scored to allow this clash to eventually end 11-3. Man of the Match: Tyler Garner (Fitzroy FC)

12.01.2022 Pascoe Vale Futsal Club 51 Altona Knights Futsal Club PVA J. Da Silva 3, M. Amador & A. Azzam ALT D. Cura... After many months devoid of Series Futsal Victoria actions, the greatest competition in Australia returned with a bang as a fresh-faced Pascoe Vale took on a hungry Altona Knights. The first half kicked off with high intensity as this affair was always going to be tight. Fixtures between the two sides from the more recent seasons offered plenty of entertainment, and today predictions were split as Altona looked to be an improved side on the Brunswick courts whilst Pascoe Vale used a team consisting of many new faces. It was the current reigning Best and Fairest winner from the 2019/20 season, Joao Da Silva that opened the scoring with a brace, both beginning with side-ball passes and both ending with a Da Silva goal. Durim Cura closed the half with a deficit shortening strike that curled off the post and in, much to the jubilation of his teammates. The half saw the everlasting ‘Da Silvaman’ not only complete his hattrick, but furthermore collect the first man of the match award of the SFV return. A strike from young-gun Mauricio Amador allowed himself to cap off an incredible debut with a goal. A certain SFV and V-League legend would also get on the scoresheet; and after years of versing the Lions in the plateau of the V-League it was Ahmed Azzam who happily added to his new sides tally. The match finished 5-1 with Pascoe Vale silencing any nay-sayers they had going into this one. Man of the Match: Joao Da Silva (Pascoe Vale FC)
12.01.2022 Moreland Futsal Club 4 (1) (2) 4 Regent City Futsal Club MOR- J. Filho 2 & A. Ibrahim 2 REG- S. Ahmed 2, A. Mohamed & A. Abdi... The return of the champions was met by the return of previously relegated side Regent FC, who made their way back to Series Futsal Victoria through the extension of the league from eight teams to ten. It was a half where many were claiming the referee’s may have had some ‘champion-bias’Regent bench were in dismay due to numerous calls. It was a Fundi goal from the side-ball that allowed Regent to take the lead, but it was quickly cancelled out from an intelligent pass into the bottom-corner from Moreland’s Atay Ibrahim. Ibrahim was met with a defender and a goalkeeper to beat but smartly finished passed them. Minutes passed and intensity heightened, but it was in the final minutes of the half where Shifa Ahmed hit a well-timed finish to retake the lead. The half closed with another few controversial calls from the referee that caused uproar from the Regent bench. The second half only saw a great game get greater as Regent found a goal through Abdulhayi Abdi as he struck a low free kick into the back of the net. It wasn’t long until Moreland would climb closer though as Jose Filho netted a strike from a side-ball; a goal that was occurring regularly throughout the night. It was then Ahmed who struck another goal but Filho again would respond by netting another one of his own. The score remained at 4-3 for the remainder of the half, with Moreland’s high intensity fifth man tactic truly testing Regent’s defensive solidity. It seemed as if Regent had held on with Cosimo Russo mistiming a strike that could’ve equalised, but it was Russo himself who would square Ibrahim at the back post for the emphatic equaliser with seconds to go to take this one to penalties. It was Abdulhayi Abdii’s incredible top-corner hit and Shifa Ahmed’s composed finish from the spot that overcame the odds and defeated the reigning champions. Man of the Match: Abdulhayi Abdi (Regent FC)

02.01.2022 Heart Futsal Club 43 Ashburton Futsal Club CAR T. Natoli, C. Rajab, V. Cruz & H. Robotis ASH M. El Turkmani, S. Ruiz & Own Goal... Our next clash of the night saw a strong Carlton Heart side looking to continue from their blistering start to the cancelled 2020 season, take on an Ashburton side looking to prove a point with a number of fresh faces taking to the court. The first half was certainly one to watch as both sides put on a display from the get-go. Harry Robotis kicked off the scoring with a nice finish, but was met with an equaliser from Sergi Ruiz, who chipped the ball sublimely over goalkeeper Mazen Abdallah. The match maintained its tightness as both sides struggled to break each other down, with Ashburton particularly looking a rejuvenated side. It was the mad-dog Chaaban Rajab who would eventually steal the ball and lead back for his Heart side, allowing the first half to close at 2-1. The second half only meant that Carlton were met with an equaliser, this time from a suspicious long-shot that deflected off of Rajab, and into the back of the net. Carlton’s new man Victor Cruz would be the man to stretch the lead once again for his side, but it was Thomas Natoli’s top corner strike that stole the cheers from the crowd as Heart lead 4-2. A well-taken backheel from Mohammed El Turkmani may have closed the deficit, but Carlton ultimately dealt with the late pressure well and finished a difficult game with the three points. Man of the Match: Mazen Abdallah (Carlton Heart FC)
