24.01.2022 Check out this resourceful work by Hollyann prepping for the storm! What a wonderful idea as I'm sure the kids will love it and a great way to secure your trampoline! Great job, we think you rock!
24.01.2022 Been hanging out to crank up the fire pit or bomb fire with the chilly nights? Well, now you can providing you adhere to the restrictions. Please note specifically the size, times for burning and days you may burn. Our friends in yellow love assiting the community in time of need, however, too often are called to fires where people are not adhering to the burn off rules or have lost control of their burns. It is always a good idea to register your burn with DFES and let you...r neighbours know so they can close their windows! Have fun and stay safe!

20.01.2022 There is something brewing off our coast.... Are you ready? A storm of this magnitude has not been seen since 2012. Be prepared. We beg you, please tie down your trampolines- often these are the biggest culprits and cause immense damage. We encourage you, please check on your neighbours- especially if they are elderly, of ill heath or just need a helping hand. Do they need help preparing their yard or securing items. ... Look after your furry friends! Bring them inside! Unless they are a horse or cow- that'd just be silly! Should you need us, a reminder that we may not be able to access or see facebook messages or posts. In fact, we can only attend your property and assist you if you ring 132 500 so that your job is logged. Stay safe friends
20.01.2022 Are you ready for the change in weather with El Niña? Check out 'Black Summer of 2019-20', this 3-part ABC factual series, premiering Tuesday 13 October 8.30pm on ABC. https://help.abc.net.au//360001880455-Australia-it-s-time-
19.01.2022 Coming into bushfires season, it is important to have a plan. Do you have a plan? Does everyone in your house know what to do or how to get out? Do you have a grab and go bag? ... If you answered no to either of the questions, it might be time to make a plan so you are best prepared in the event of a bushfire.
19.01.2022 Please keep your eyes peeled friends. This is really worrying and so very distressing

12.01.2022 Yesterday some of our members went to John Wollaston Anglican Community School to give a talk on volunteering in the community to an enthusiastic bunch of Year 6's. We got to share some of our favourite things about volunteering and why we do it. After our talk we took the students out to complete a bullring exercise where they carried out 3 different tasks. knot tying: tying a figure 8 on the bight (yes, I know that's a pretzel emoji, I couldnt find a rope) Foresic sear...ch: item memory recall Stretcher carry: carry a stretcher through distater torn environment (we trashed the classroom ) We had great fun captivating these minds and thoroughly enjoyed sharing our passion. We hope that one day these young people might volunteer their time to give back to the community. #actbelongcommit #volunteering #SES #SJSES #JWACS

11.01.2022 Total fire ban over the weekend friends. Please remind your family and neighbours!
11.01.2022 A friendly reminder to all of our residents that the unrestricted burning period will be ending on Wednesday, 30 September and the restricted burning period w...ill commence on Thursday, 1 October. We are reminding landowners to Burn SMART if you are conducting planned burns around your property. Plan smart - Burn SMART: Planned burning can help you to reduce the amount of flammable material on your property, potentially reducing the impact of bushfire. In the wrong conditions, a planned burn can escape and become an uncontrollable fire. For further information regarding restrictions and Fire Danger Ratings please visit: https://bit.ly/2YmsWX7 YOU are responsible for any burns on your property and must take care to recognise and manage risks. We encourage you to register your burn by calling DFES Communications Centre on 9395 9209 prior to the ignition of your burn. You can use the Burn SMART Guide and Checklist before, during and after your burn to help ensure you Burn SMART. The checklist and guide can be downloaded from: www.dfes.wa.gov.au/plannedburning Bushfires happen every summer and it's important to think about your preparedness plan now before the next bushfire season is upon us. Plan SMART and Burn SMART.
10.01.2022 How good has our day been! We've spent the day working with other units from the South East Metro SES region using the wonderful facilities provided by DFES. Our activities included clearing a building of casualties, blind knot tieing, setting up a roof safety system, urban search and rescue and sandbagging an actual building that is flooding!... We are all wrecked but had such a great day and can't wait for the next one!

09.01.2022 Calling all past unit members Have you or do you know someone that has served in the Serpentine Jarrahdale State Emergency Service Unit? We would love to hear from you! We are trying very hard to gather all information on our past members as we have a very special birthday coming up! ... In the process, we are also trying to gather information on names of past members, current contact details, duration of time served along with any stories, photos or videos on our history! If you can help us with any of these, we would love you to get in contact. Please bare in mind we are volunteers and work. We do apologise, we will do our best to get back as soon as possible but sometimes isn't always the case. TIA

08.01.2022 Happy Easter from our families to yours. Please remember to adhere to social distancing rules, regional road restrictions and double demerits this Easter weekend. Have a wonderful and safe break
06.01.2022 This week the nation celebrates all the volunteers that make up our community. This Wednesday we will celebrate WOW Day. We wear orange and normally all SES units would get together and celebrate with a bevie or two, recognition, some awards and of course some cake. In these current times, it makes this a bit tricky. So to all our fellow SES Volunteers, thank you! For being side by side in searches, for being on slippery rooves, manning the radios, delivering much needed good...s and equipment to incidents, for note taking and miniting meetings. For all the work you do in the back ground and the forefront. Thank you! From our little orange family, we would like to thank a few others while we have the opportunity! Firstly, our families for allowing us to be away from home for hours to sometimes a week at a time. We love you and could not do this without your unwaiving support and love. To our vollie friends in yellow at our local Bush Fire Brigades, thank you for keeping us safe, for your long shifts and exhausting work with the fires in our shire and those far from home! You guys and gals rock! For the community who support us, feed us or hydrate us. It is your "Thanks mate", the wave or even just the smile that makes our time all worth it. We love our community and everyone that make it. So from us to you, thank you!
05.01.2022 We love helping and we love it even more when there is a happy ending! This is how we spent out Tuesday night! How did you spend yours?
05.01.2022 Good Morning Please be advised Jesse has been located safe and well, thank you for your all your concerns and assistance.

04.01.2022 Wishing a huge happy 40th birthday to the amazing Mel Fowler! Mel is an integral part of our unit and does so much that we would be lost without her!. HAPPY BIRTHDAY MEL
03.01.2022 Round 2 coming over night
03.01.2022 Another day, another callout. Our members love what they do and when part of a rescue involves a scenic walk on the Kittys Gorge trail you bet everyone will want to be involved!
02.01.2022 This weekend, our unit hosted a Chainsaw Operations Course for SES members. We had 8 members from SJ and Mandurah successfully complete the 2 day course. Valuable skills were taught and practised. These included: assessing a storm damaged environment, limbing and cross cutting high and fallen branches with pole saws, cutting and removing fallen trees and branches and decision making in planning cuts to reduce the risk of further damage as often the storm damaged trees resemble a game of 'pick up sticks'. Members also had to learn and demonstrate chainsaw saftey, maintainance and chain sharpening. Well done to our newest Chainsaw team members and big thanks to Hony, Todd and Marty for volunteering their time to conduct the course. Thanks to the team at Fig and Ivy for our delicious lunch!

01.01.2022 GREEN WASTE DATES & STORM PREPERATION We at the State Emergancy Service are all about being prepared for the worst and we are hoping you are too! With green waste collection coming up, what a great opportunity to have a look around your property and start getting ready for winter. If you have some free time on your hands and have elderly neighbours or essential workers as neighbours- maybe you could help out a neighbour and check in on their storm preparations too? A...fter all, helping others is the Australian way! Do you have trees close to homes, sheds or stables? Do any of these pose a threat in high winds or storms? Maybe some branches or trees need to be removed or trimmed? Maybe you need to clean your gutters? Now is the time to start planning for winter and have your waste collected and save you a trip to the tip! See below rules and dates for areas in the shire for your collection!
01.01.2022 We apologise if we have been a bit quiet lately. Like everyone else, we have been trying to make sense of all this craziness, prepare ourselves and our families and continue with our usual forms of employment. Please be assured, although you may not see us around or hear from us as often. We are still here for you and should you need us, we will always only be a phone call away. We will respond to all call outs and operational matters. Stay safe friends. Let's get through this together (from a distance). A smile has never meant so much, make sure you share yours with those you cross paths with, it could make someone's day.
