Outside of the SES, Matt is a projec...t manager for an irrigation water authority, and has a young family. The SES offers the flexibility to be involved, even around work and other commitments. 23.01.2022 Family and friends play a critical support role for our volunteers. Whether it’s picking up the kids from school, heating up dinner, or being there for a hug after a long day your support means everything to us. This weekend on 14-15 November, we’re celebrating all the families and friends that support our volunteers to do what they do. Because at VICSES, we’re all family. #YourFamilyOurFamily

09.01.2022 Geoscience Australia has reported a 2.1 magnitude earthquake this evening (approx 5:18pm) near Leongatha, Victoria. It measured at a depth of 10km. There are no felt reports, injuries or building damage. More info here: https://earthquakes.ga.gov.au/

08.01.2022 The Bureau has confirmed that a La Niña has formed in the tropical Pacific, with climate models suggesting it's likely to remain until at least the end of 2020.... La Niña typically brings: A wetter-than-average spring and summer to northern and eastern Australia; Cooler-than-average days and warmer-than-average nights; Increased tropical cyclone numbers; An earlier start to the monsoon and wet season; Average fire risk; and Less intense but more prolonged heatwaves across southern Australia. But every La Niña event is different. Once La Niña develops it usually finishes the following autumn, but some events have lasted 2 or 3 years. Rainfall can also vary considerably. During the last big event of 2010-2012 rainfall was above average across most of Australia (we saw Category 5 tropical cyclone Yasi devastate far north Queensland communities during this period), whereas rainfall during the La Niña event of 2008-2009 was much more patchy. 07.01.2022 VICSES is preparing for what could be a very wet Spring. You can stay informed by monitoring forecasts, river levels and weather warnings at the Bureau of Meteorology website - bom.gov.au... The increased potential of a La Niña this Spring and predications for above average rainfall means the Victorian community needs to be prepared for the possibility of riverine and flash flooding over the coming months. We’re paying particular attention to late September and through October.

06.01.2022 Our wonderful amazing volunteers have worked incredibly hard overnight and well into today, a huge thank you!

01.01.2022 As we mark 12 months on from the devastating fires that ravaged the beautiful lands of this country, we pause to reflect on those impacted through this life cha...nging experience. For many lives will never be the same again, many have lost loved ones, homes, livelihoods, safe havens along with so much more. We see the scars in our landscape everywhere, trees that have just disappeared, still scorched earth and bare ground. The loss of livestock and our magnificent native animals who had no place to hide and no way to protect themselves. But there are so many great stories as well which need to be told and heard. The gifts of time and talent to those in need runs deep everywhere, those who gave up time to help with fencing, giving clothing and goods to help immediately those who had lost everything. People like the Muslim families and communities gathering food and driving overnight to feed those fighting the fires and those who had nowhere to go. I myself have seen the human spirit triumph time and time again because others have stood side by side with those who feel lost and alone. Beyond the fire is a documentary series following the stories of Australia’s unsung heroes as they band together to create life from ashes after the Australian black summer bushfire crisis. Set against the stunning backdrop of Gippsland, Australia follow the journey through fire affected locations, connecting with local heroes to uncover courageous stories of overcoming heat, wind & flame: - PREMIERING 2ND JANUARY 2021 12NOON ON 10HD https://www.beyondthefire.tv/ See more
