24.01.2022 TOP PRIORITY FOR IMMEDIATE BROADCAST Severe Thunderstorm Warning for HEAVY RAINFALL and DAMAGING WINDS For people in Wide Bay and Burnett, Southeast Coast and parts of Central Highlands and Coalfields, Capricornia and Darling Downs and Granite Belt Forecast Districts.... Issued at 1:45 pm Tuesday, 2 January 2018. Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding and damaging winds in the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include Warwick, Gold Coast, Toowoomba, Gympie, Coolangatta, Ipswich, Kingaroy, Biloela and Stanthorpe. Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should: * Move your car under cover or away from trees. * Secure loose outdoor items. * Never drive, walk or ride through flood waters. If its flooded, forget it. * Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees. * Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm. * Beware of fallen trees and powerlines. * For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500. The next warning is due to be issued by 4:45 pm. If severe thunderstorms develop in the Southeast Queensland area (east of Dalby from Rainbow Beach to Stanthorpe), a more detailed Severe Thunderstorm Warning will be issued to people in this area. Warnings are also available through TV and Radio broadcasts, the Bureaus website at www.bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 219. The Bureau and Queensland Fire and Emergency Services would appreciate warnings being broadcast regularly.
23.01.2022 FYI for anyone who is interested in Sunwaters information day.
23.01.2022 As quite a lot have heard, there has been a large shift in the computer modelling in the last 24hrs. We have been analysing the situation but have waited to com...ment until the guidance became more clear and it occurred for a few runs. The main shift is in the southern extent that Owen will travel. It would appear increasing unlikely that SEQ will be impacted. The overall easterly then south easterly track is still happening and in good agreement, though this has trended northwards as well. At this stage we arent sure on just how far south it will travel (apart from being confident in SEQ being in the clear) as intensity will play a big factor in this. This will be important as the stalling location will likely receive much more rainfall. Whats changed over the last 24hrs? A combination of a couple of things. Firstly and most importantly, the turn back towards the east from the system was delayed and therefore is missing its chance to be slung vigorously around the axis of the the upper level trough. This leads to the next point about the upper trough as well. Its looking like the whole dynamics of the system have not become as strong as expected. So the net effect of these two things is to see a system that weakens much faster over land as it doesnt obtain baroclinic properties, and this weakness reduces its southern travel extent. At this stage Port Douglas to Rockhampton should still prepare for strong winds and heavy rainfall. We will endeavour to bring you more information on what each location may be looking at in terms of wind and rain through subscriber updates and tonight Nitso is planning on giving a live video another shot for followers on Facebook. So hang in there folks, we will try and unravel what has occurred over the last 24hrs. Below we have the GFS and CMC ensembles which shows roughly what the current expectations are. The EC ensemble is not overly dissimilar. The current forecast is for fine, hot weather to continue for the rest of the week.

We just need you & some of your valuable time.
02.01.2022 TROPICAL CYCLONE IRIS LDMG ACTIVATION TO ALERT As a result of the reformation of Tropical Cyclone Iris, and its slow southward expected tracking over the next... few days, the Banana Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) has activated to Alert. Any changes to this status will be communicated on this page. Alert is defined by the Banana Shire Local Disaster Management Plan as a heightened level of vigilance due to the possibility of an event in the area of responsibility. No action is required, however the situation will be closely monitored with regular communication with the Bureau of Meteorology. For cyclone preparedness and safety advice please refer to Queenslands Disaster Management Services website: www.disaster.qld.gov.au.
