17.01.2022 Last evening was the culmination of a month of Road Crash Rescue training by Lorne SES. As you can see we can make short work of dismantling a . Handy skills to have but we prefer to practice them rather than use them for real, so please be careful on the roads. Many thanks to Lorne Breakdown and Towing who always support us with vehicles to refine our techniques with.

17.01.2022 WILD,WET AND WINDY ON THE COAST Last Thursday, SES Lorne Unit were called out to 4 incidents involving a fallen tree in Erskine Falls Road, a land slip in Wye River and 2 rock falls along the Great Ocean Road

16.01.2022 A lot of storm damage can be preventable if you take the steps to prepare your home. With rain forecasted for this weekend, why not take the time to clean your gutters, downpipes and drains to remove debris and leaf litter to prevent blockages.

15.01.2022 Lorne SES volunteers assisting Ambulance and Police at Shelly Beach today.

14.01.2022 A multi agency road crash response today near Mt Defiance lookout. SES volunteers were able to quickly remove the side of the vehicle for safe access and patient extraction. A good turn out by all emergency service personnel and volunteers.

13.01.2022 A good volunteer turnout on a wet, cold and ‘ dark’ evening to deal with a big tree down across Mt Sabine Rd. This specimen required some serious winching to drag it off. A lot of wind blown debris about on the DMR so be careful out there.

13.01.2022 The impacts of La Niña mean heavier rainfall and an increased chance of flooding across parts of Victoria. Now is the time to get flood ready. Visit our website for more information: www.ses.vic.gov.au/get-ready Lorne SES has been busy preparing with our vehicles and storm trailer. A busy and noisy session at George River last evening with all the pumps, generators, lighting, chainsaws and hydraulics up and running in readiness for any local events.

12.01.2022 UPDATED 3/6/2020 5.10PM - From "THE DAILY" A woman has reportedly died after the car she was driving on the Great Ocean Road, in Victoria’s south, went off a cliff and into the sea on Wednesday. The ABC reports the woman was the only person in the vehicle.... Police say the crash happened about 1.20pm on Wednesday opposite Broadbent Road, near Lorne. (Was at Reedy Creek not Broadbent Road) The woman’s car careered over a cliff and into the sea. The yet-to-be-identified female has been recovered from the car deceased and there were no other occupants, a police spokesperson said. The cause of the crash is yet to be determined and the investigation is ongoing. An SES spokesperson said earlier a very serious incident had occurred along the coastal road. The woman’s vehicle was upside-down in the water when crews from multiple emergency services arrived on the scene. It’s believed a car has fallen off the side of a cliff near Lorne. Victorian SES volunteers from Lorne secured the car to prevent the tide from taking it away. A high-angle rescue team was involved in the operation. Heavy haulage was on the scene by late on Wednesday afternoon. A CFA spokesperson said vehicles had responded from multiple stations nearby, including Anglesea, Apollo Bay, Geelong, Lorne and Aireys Inlet. About a dozen emergency vehicles remained on the scene about 5pm on Wednesday. Anyone who witnessed the crash or anyone with dashcam footage is urged to contact Crime Stoppers. The heavily trafficked Great Ocean Road has been closed between Eastern View and Lorne. The Victorian Department of Transport has urged motorists take the inland detour through Winchelsea and Deans Marsh. -with agencies

09.01.2022 This afternoon, Lorne SES assisted Ambulance Victoria to carry out an experienced bush walker along the St. George’s river track who had badly twisted her knee. A Mule was used to carry the patient over rocks and tree roots. The Mule consists of a stretcher attached to a large inflated wheel. This makes it so much easier for our SES crew to carry a patient over rocks, sand and track bridges. Great team effort.

08.01.2022 Another call out to assist AV with a carry out from Jump Rock today. Again the ‘mule’ was used to ferry the patient along the rock shelf to Nth Lorne carpark. It’s a handy device.

07.01.2022 Landslide on Deans Marsh Rd. SES on site controlling traffic. Expect some short delay if travelling this way.

07.01.2022 Please note if travelling the Great Ocean Road next week.

06.01.2022 Congratulations to James Staley who won the coveted Lorne SES ‘Camel’ Award at our Annual Xmas function last evening. The award ( in honour of past controller Michael Callanan ) is an acknowledgement of the local SES volunteer who attends the most ‘ call outs’ and training sessions in a year. James was a clear winner in both categories. He is seen here with past winner Dean Hunt enjoying the moment. Well done James!

04.01.2022 Massive day today ( and still not finished) with assists for trees on roads, on power lines, across driveways and on top of vehicles...wind is dying down but many branches will have been weakened by the wind and likely to let go over the next few days...be careful where you park tonight!

02.01.2022 Early call out to remove a very large (30 m) multi-limbed tree across both lanes of the Deans Marsh Rd. To save time the tree was cut into long sections and winched off. Be careful travelling the DMR over the next week as recent rains will have weakened trees hold on the roadsides.

01.01.2022 Wet start to the morning. Tree down at the corner of Grove Rd and Otway St
