21.01.2022 This week some of our newer members did some training using Road Crash Rescue (RCR) tools and techniques. Although the NSW SES is the primary combat agency for flood, storm and tsunami, our volunteers can have other responsibilities in some parts of the state. Locally, our members assist in searches, including in remote alpine areas, and are also the primary rescue unit for the area, being called upon to remove patients from car wrecks and other rescue situations.... If you are interested in finding out more about the various roles that can be undertaken as an SES volunteer check out our website - there is something for everyone! https://www.ses.nsw.gov.au/get-involved/volunteer/ Check out some cool videos of this weeks RCR training in the comments below.

18.01.2022 South-east Queensland was impacted by giant hail brought by severe thunderstorms on Saturday 31 October. Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) recorded 3284 tasks with 84% of these being for structural damage. NSW SES were asked to provide support in assisting the Ipswich community and surrounds to make temporary repairs caused by hail damage. Two of our local SES volunteers (Robert Wiggins and Adrien Hopkins) are currently in QLD on deployment with NSW SES Taskforc...e Bravo. Here are a few photos to show some of the damage and the great work our NSW SES teams are doing. 18.01.2022 If it's flooded forget it!

17.01.2022 Struth - it's a bit windy today! Tie down your dog, trampoline, garden furniture or anything else that's outside and park the car under cover - it's looking to get pretty blowy! The BoM says winds in the South East of the State are going to peak with gusts in excess of 90km/h in parts and 120km/h in alpine areas - so if you are in the affected area - ensure you are prepared. Secure or put away loose items, bring pets indoors, and call 132500 for emergency help.

17.01.2022 Jindabyne Boil Water Alert - effective immediately. Recent wet weather conditions have caused increased turbidity making drinking water in the Jindabyne, Leesvi...lle, Lakewood, The Station Resort and High Country unsafe. Water used for drinking or food preparation should be brought to a rolling boil to make it safe. Kettles with automatic shut off switches can do this. Water should then be allowed to cool and stored in a clean container with a lid and refrigerated. Bottled water or cool boiled water should be used for drinking, washing uncooked food (e.g. salad vegetables and fruit), making ice, cleaning teeth, gargling and pet’s drinking water. Dishes should be washed in hot soapy water or in a dishwasher. Children should take bottled water or cool boiled water to school. Snowy Monaro Regional Council is working to fix the problem although it may persist until the raw water quality improves. Berridale, Kalkite, and East Jindabyne are NOT affected however we are increasing monitoring for those intakes as those areas are also supplied with water from Lake Jindabyne, although at different intake points. This advice should be followed until further notice. Public notice advising of the boil water alert available here - https://www.snowymonaro.nsw.gov.au/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=880 The NSW Health website also includes special considerations for: - Schools and childcare centres https://www.health.nsw.gov.au/environm//Pages/schools.aspx - Commercial establishments serving food or drinks https://www.health.nsw.gov.au/enviro//Pages/foodfacts.aspx - Using water header tanks https://www.health.nsw.gov.au/envir//Pages/watertanks.aspx - Swimming pools and spas https://www.health.nsw.gov.au/environment//Pages/pools.aspx

16.01.2022 What did you get up to over the weekend? Under bluebird skies it was assessment time for our latest Alpine Search candidates which required them to undertake a search scenario on snow shoes and camp out overnight. The group met at Perisher Valley on Sat 29 Aug, then hiked on snow shoes carrying all required gear to Porcupine rocks. They undertook a search for Spalding St-John-Smythe (remember Wilson's COVID-infected brother from a few weeks ago?) - located him, assessed and s...tabilised him with the professional assistance of the ambulance officer candidate. The group then took a short area familiarisation walk and, after lunch, headed to a location near Perisher gap where the candidates dug snow shelters, pitched tents and had dinner. The group retired early and experienced a blustery night, awakening to a calm blue sky morning, followed by a walk on snow shoes back to Perisher and a debrief over coffee (and a second breakfast for some). All candidates were deemed competent - congratulations to SES volunteers Anthony Cleary, Duncan Koenig and Chris Marel and NSW Ambulance officer Ian Pollard. Thanks also to assessors and assistants Adrien Hopkins, Mel Potter, Takako Bailey, Mal Fotheringham and Bill Taylor.

14.01.2022 Who’s sad to see the season almost over? It sure has been a crazy year! Where are you from and how many days did you hit the slopes this winter? The weather man says there might be a bit more snow on the way - do you think you can squeeze out a few more runs before it melts?... Thanks to all who kept our Mountains COVID-free.

03.01.2022 At 1:10am this morning we got a call to remove a tree that had fallen across the road on a blind corner on Middlingbank Rd. Four of our Berridale volunteers leapt out of bed (LOL) and met Police onsite to remove the tree from the roadway. Thankyou Adolf, Eric, Rob and Heidi.
