21.01.2022 Following the storm activity last week, Moggill Group were again on the ground assisting our Ipswich colleagues and their response to Saturday's hail. It's difficult to describe the level of destruction in certain parts of Springfield, where there aren't many houses without damage. With a significant amount of work outstanding, and more bad weather predicted over the coming days, we're ramping up for another busy weekend. If you do require SES assistance, call 132 500, or ...go to the SES website to enter details directly: https://132500.qld.gov.au/ses-webapp/

20.01.2022 This week Moggill Group hosted the Pine Mountain Rural Fire Brigade. The event was organised and planned by Wayne Pitt who is a dual member of both the RFS and SES. Thank you to both Dennis Mahon and Evan Anderson the respective leaders of the Pine Mountain RFS and Moggill SES for overseeing the dual training event. The purpose of the training was for both parties to showcase their equipment and capability to each other. The evening started with a BBQ meal catered for by th...e RFS and Chef'd by Wayne; Vinay & Angel. Pine Mountain brought both their Fire trucks "51" & "52"; they demonstrated a Case 4 water transfer to the SES water tanker followed by a demonstration of refilling their water tank from a local hydrant utilising their Stand Pipe for water re-supply. Moggill Group had several stations set up to demonstrate the types of activities the SES carry out; there were demonstrations of a Height Safety rig, EOC field setup, Casualty Handling and transfer via our newly acquired Ferno Mule; Traffic Control; Chainsaw; and Pole Saw; ATV rides through the bush (Evan & Wayne); Floodboat and emergency lightning utilising our new Milwaukee battery operated lights to light up each activity station. The night was interrupted when the Brigade had to leave to attend to a roadside bush fire in Chuwar; which they were able to put out and return within an hour. Both services got a better understanding of each party's operational activity and capability. Well done to all members in attendance who contributed to the success of the dual training night.

10.01.2022 Its been a very busy 2019 for the Moggill SES Group. There has been over 3000 hours of training and operational support performed, together with over 1000 hours of activations assisting the community. Members have participated in everything from operations in Townsville in February, community events such as Anzac Day and Oxfam Trailwalker, all the way through to Boonah most recently helping the Rural Fire Service in their response to the recent bushfires.... We have welcomed a number of new members this year, with a significant amount of training time dedicated to improving the capability of the group overall. We would like to thank our dedicated members, in addition to the greater Moggill community for their continued support this year. All the best for a fantastic holiday season and a happy and prosperous 2020. Moggill State Emergency Service

05.01.2022 Coroner Simon Cooper (Tasmania 2017) found three common factors which will help avoid chainsaw operator fatalities. * GET formal training; * WEAR proper perso...nal protective equipment (PPE); and * USE proper tree felling techniques and avoid dangerous chainsaw-use practices. Lack of training was the common cause of death for the six fatalities he reviewed. Mr Cooper described the fatalities as "entirely avoidable".

02.01.2022 At the Moggill SES, with the recent COVID-19 pandemic restrictions partly lifted, the group has adapted training to abide with the government regulations. After some time doing online teams meetings and training, we have been able to have a small number of members back at base, whilst having some members online for administrative purposes and training where able. Moggill has adapted to both online and on base training again to be able to recommence training to be able to prepare for possible requirements for the community.
