12.01.2022 Due to COVID-19 restrictions, engagement with the community to help plan and prepare for emergencies cannot go ahead with our usual face-to-face communications.... CFA (Country Fire Authority), together with VICSES and the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP), are working on a research project to better understand how we can better engage with communities during COVID-19. You can help us by completing this quick one-question poll, ahead of the upcoming fire season. Complete the poll online here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/NKRHNWL

12.01.2022 150+ storm damage emergency calls across Nillumbik SES crews from the Nillumbik Unit based in Eltham supported by members from the Essendon, Whittlesea, Chelsea, Dandenong, Craigieburn, and Monash Units plus Central Region staff have been working throughout the day and will continue into tonight as we still receive more calls from people impacted by the storm. The severe wind last night has damaged many properties with entire trees and large branches impacting houses, fences..., sheds, pergolas and landed over busy roads, onto cars, and brought down power lines causing localised power outages. Highly trained SES crews using specialist working at heights techniques to work on roofs, using chainsaws, polesaws and building damage temporary repair techniques have been making incidents safe. We have also been clearing roads with the assistance of Nillumbik and Banyule Council crews, VicRoads & Vicpol personnel, and working with FRV and CFA crews securing downed powerlines with power company personnel to ensure our community can safely return to normal after this storm. Thanks to everyone for being patient whilst we work through a high volume of emergency calls so we can ensure the most dangerous situations are dealt with first, promptly. There is likely to be a delay as we triage calls and we do appreciate how patient people have been. If your situation has been resolved and you no longer need assistance please contact SES on 132 500 to let us know. Please use the flowchart below to help direct any further requests for help. 11.01.2022 Some time ago, a couple of our creative volunteers set up and arranged a photograph that captured an exploded view of just what equipment roles out our door whenever we get a call for rescue. This photo captured the interest of many people and organisations across the world with a staggering amount of views and comments for a smallish volunteer rescue unit on the outskirts of Melbourne. Well you can imagine our excitement and pride when we learnt that our photo was selected o...ut of hundreds of photos from rescue organisations around the world and would be published in the Holmatro Rescue World 2020 International calendar. As we approach the end of a challenging year, one of our Nillumbik Units' memorable moments will be the sense of pride we had when a Victoria State Emergency Service volunteer rescue unit appeared in an international publication that is well recognised right across the International Rescue community. This is not only a great honour for us but puts the "SES" as a whole, Australia wide, out there on the International Rescue stage. Well done all :-) Nillumbik Shire Council Victoria State Emergency Service #tetrischallenge
