21.01.2022 Next 5 day forecast from BOM for the Gold Coast. Thunderstorms and some rain. Remember if it's flooded forget it! Take time to check your gutters, loose item...s secured, check your drains and do you have your emergency plan ready. Please note: we do not supply sandbags unless our teams out there need them for jobs that have come in through 132500. We also don't have a supply of sand or dirt to fill them, we may need to dig on your property to fill them. If flooding is occurring, chances are, there are many others that are too. If you have flooded before and concerned, now is the time to get prepared. Please head to hardware stores and purchase them. If you don't have time or money, shopping bags or garbage bags will also work. Don't overfill them, stack them like bricks, staggered them where you need them. The Gold Coast Unit is made up of Volunteers. We are not paid, we do not work for insurance companies or real estate agencies. We are here to assist the community in times of need. When many jobs come in, we can't be everywhere at once. Please be patient. For Life threatening situations call 000, if you need to log a job for assistance call 132500.
21.01.2022 A very happy Mothers Day to all the mums out in the world.

13.01.2022 Power posing is a self-improvement technique or "life hack" in which people stand in a posture that they mentally associate with being powerful, in the hope of feeling and behaving more confident and powerful aka superman/wonder woman pose Here’s abit of mindfulness Gold Coast, this power pose helps our teams on the boarders take a breather and while increasing a smile rate to 100% and social distancing at the same time Try it out for 1 minute before completing tasks #SocialDistancing #SES

We know disasters can strike anywhere at any time, which is why it’s important to... take the time to think about how you can Get Ready and prepare for the next storm, cyclone, flood or bushfire. The program is a year-round, all-hazards, resilience building initiative to help communities prepare for natural disasters. Get involved and get ready! See more
11.01.2022 A dramatic rescue has unfolded on the Gold Coast after a walker fell and shattered his pelvis. #9News
11.01.2022 **This warning is no longer current. Please refer to the QFES Facebook page for updated information.** LEAVE IMMEDIATELY: O’Reilly (part of the Sarabah bushfire...) bushfire as at 5.40pm Mon 9 Sept Bushfire warning level: EMERGENCY WARNING Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) advises there is a bushfire approaching Lamington National Park Road, O’Reilly. Leaving immediately is the safest option, as it will soon be too dangerous to drive. Follow your bushfire survival plan now. If you do not have a plan, your safest option is to leave immediately if it is clear to do so. If you cannot leave, identify where you will seek shelter from the bushfire. If you are not in the area, do not return, as conditions are too dangerous. Currently as at 5.40pm Monday 9 September, a dangerous fire is travelling in a westerly direction towards Lamington National Park Road. It is expected to impact Lamington National Park Road at O’Reilly. Residents on Lamington National Park Road, south of Kamarun Lookout Road, are advised to travel south to O’Reilly’s Guest House, 3582 Lamington National Park Rd, Canungra, which is a place of refuge. Residents north of Kamarun Lookout Road are advised to travel north to Moriarty Park, Canungra, which is a place of refuge. The fire is expected to have a significant impact on the community. Conditions are now very dangerous and firefighters may soon be unable to prevent the fire advancing. The fire may pose a threat to all lives directly in its path. Fire crews may not be able to protect your property. You should not expect a firefighter at your door: act now. Power, water, and mobile phone service may be lost and road conditions may become very dangerous over the next several hours. People in the area will be affected by smoke, which will reduce visibility and air quality. Call Triple Zero (000) immediately if you believe you are under threat. WHAT YOU SHOULD DO: Listen to your local radio station or visit the Rural Fire Service (RFS) website for regular updates. Put on protective clothing (e.g., a long-sleeved cotton shirt, boots with thick soles). Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated. If you suffer from a respiratory condition, keep your medication close by. If you are leaving: Secure your pets for safe transport. Check for road closures and then advise family and friends of your intended travel route. Take your important documents and essential items (e.g., passports, birth certificates, prescription medication, food and water, and protective clothing) when you leave. Drive with caution in low visibility conditions. If you are unable to leave: Bring pets inside; restrain them with a leash, a cage, or inside a secure room; and provide them with plenty of water. Fill containers such as your bath, sinks, and buckets with water so you have access to drinking water and firefighting water. Close windows and doors, sealing the gaps under doors and screens with wet towels to keep smoke out of the house. Identify a safe spot to shelter in, which would be a place with more than one exit, preferably inside a brick building, away from windows and doors. The safest spot is the place that will keep you furthest away from the intense heat from the fire. As the fire approaches and passes, the safest spot will change, so be ready to move. KEEP UP TO DATE BY: Following QFES on Facebook (@QldFireandRescueService) and Twitter (@QldFES) Staying tuned to your local radio station. Find your local ABC radio station at https://radio.abc.net.au/help/offline and your local commercial radio station at http://www.commercialradio.com.au/find-a-station/queensland; Visiting the Rural Fire Service (RFS) website at www.ruralfire.qld.gov.au/map FURTHER INFORMATION: For bushfire preparation tips, visit the RFS website: www.ruralfire.qld.gov.au/BushFire_Safety For information about road closures, call 13 19 40 or visit www.qldtraffic.qld.gov.au The next update will be provided by 7.40pm or if the situation changes.

03.01.2022 It pains me to have to warn everyone again about yet another SCAM by low life's seeking to use the SES Volunteers good name in the community. Especially after a...ll the work our volunteers have been doing in responding to the recent fire events in the South West Region. Some residents and business in the region have received telephone calls from people claiming to be from the 'local SES group,' and are fund raising. Local Groups will not call you to request money. So to be clear, SES Groups are not cold calling their communities: - requesting SPONSORSHIP for calendars, - selling ADVERTISING space in magazines, books, the side of buildings or any where else. - selling RAFFLE TICKETS in cash or other prizes. If you have received a call calming to be from your local SES Group, I recommend you report it to the Federal Governments scamwatch @ www.scamwatch.gov.au If you would like to help your local group and are unable to join them, speak directly to the Group Leader, Local Controller or Regional Office to see if there is any fundraising being undertaken locally to obtain extra equipment etc.
01.01.2022 Induction and information night at all Groups across the Gold Coast Tuesday night 2/6 from 7-9pm. If you are intending to attend, please let me know so I can a...dvise the Group on numbers. Please note: Some restrictions are still in place for COVID-19. If you are a current member, please check with your Group Leader for what training is happening at your Group. LOCATIONS Pimpama - 119 Pimpama Jacobs Well Road, Pimpama Runaway Bay - Sports Drive, Runaway Bay Southport - 195 Queen street, Southport Carrara - Eastlake St, Carrara Coolangatta - 222 Coolangatta Road, Bilinga Springbrook - Carricks Road, Springbrook If you are interested in becoming a member, we are recruiting ready for Storm season! We are looking for members to assist our community by being trained specifically in Search, Height safety and storm damage. Just ensure you bring along a drivers licence or other photographic ID and residency/citizenship paperwork if born overseas. Hope to see you around.
