Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds and large hailstones in the warning area over the next several hours. The NSW SES advises that people should: Move your car under cover or away from trees. Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony. Keep at least 8 metres away from fallen power lines or objects that may be energised, such as fences. Keep clear of creeks and storm drains. Unplug computers and appliances. Avoid using the phone during the storm. Stay indoors away from windows, and keep children and pets indoors as well. Stay vigilant and monitor conditions. Following bushfires, the landscape may have changed: Be aware that run-off from rainfall in fire affected areas may behave differently and be more rapid. It may also contain debris such as ash, soil, trees and rocks. After bushfires, heavy rain and the loss of foliage can make the ground soft and heavy, leading to a greater chance of landslides. 13.01.2022 The bushfire response of 2019-2020 for our unit began in October, 2019, when our members up to Glen Innes and Armidale to assist with the ever growing threat of fire. Within a month, the fires had reached our doorstep, on November 29, the North Black Range fire sparked up next to Braidwood, and more of our unit was able to rise to the call. Last night we were honoured with medals, citations and certificates to commemorate our involvement, in an emergency that many of us will ...never forget. Congratulations to those that received the NSW Premier's Bushfire Emergency Citation, the NSW SES Commissioners Unit Citation, and to our two Long Service members on their recognition of over 15 years.

13.01.2022 THIS STORM WARNING HAS BEEN CANCELLED. SEVERE STORM WARNING Destructive winds, large hailstones, heavy rainfall.... A cold front is sweeping across inland NSW today, bringing strong and fast-moving storms. Severe thunderstorms may produce damaging, locally destructive winds, large hailstones and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding in the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include Canberra, Yass, Dubbo, Parkes, Wagga Wagga, Albury, Griffith, Cobar and Bourke. In case of a severe weather event, you should: Move your car under cover or away from trees. Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony. 11.01.2022 SEVERE WEATHER WARNING Damaging Winds & Blizzards Another front is crossing the state, bringing a return of vigorous westerly winds.... DAMAGING WINDS exceeding gusts of 90km are likely to develop over the higher parts of the Illawarra, Southern and Central Tablelands and Alps in the morning, and are expected to continue until at least midday Sunday. BLIZZARDS are also possible over the elevated regions of 1200 metres in association with the stronger winds and snow, especially in the south. The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service recommends that back country travel be postponed until conditions improve. Locations which may be affected include Wollongong, Nowra, Bowral, Braidwood, Katoomba, Goulburn, Cabramurra, Selwyn and Khancoban. The NSW SES advises that people should: Move vehicles under cover or away from trees. Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony. For Alpine area's above 1900m, damaging winds averaging 80 km/h with peak gusts over 120 km/h with BLIZZARDS are expected. 10.01.2022 The 2019-2020 bushfire season is one many of us won't forget. For Bungendore SES it started on the evening of November 29th, when a team helped out the NSW RFS ...by doing ember spotting patrols around Braidwood. We weren't directly on the fire front, but we provided support where we could so the RFS could fight the fires. Some of our members recently got their NSW Premier's Bushfire Emergency Citations in a small ceremony held at the shed we share with Bungendore RFS.

DAMAGING WINDS, averaging 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts in excess of 90 km/h are expected in western parts during Wednesday and in the east in the evening. The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 11:25 pm, severe thunderstorms were detected on the weather radar near Belconnen, Canberra Civic, Queanbeyan, Tuggeranong, Canberra Airport, South Canberra, Weston Creek and Woden Valley. These thunderstorms are moving towards the east. They are forecast to affect Hall and Gungahlin by 11:55 pm. Damaging winds and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding are likely. The State Emergency Service advises that people should: * Move your car under cover or away from trees. * Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony. * Keep at least 8 metres away from fallen power lines or objects that may be energised, such as fences. * Report fallen power lines to either Ausgrid (131 388), Endeavour Energy (131 003), Essential Energy (132 080) or Evoenergy (131 093) as shown on your power bill. * Keep clear of creeks and storm drains. * Don't walk, ride your bike or drive through flood water. * If you are trapped by flash flooding, seek refuge in the highest available place and ring 000 if you need rescue. * Unplug computers and appliances. * Avoid using the phone during the storm. * Stay indoors away from windows, and keep children and pets indoors as well. * For emergency help in floods and storms, ring the SES (NSW and ACT) on 132 500. The next warning is due to be issued by 12:20 am Monday. A more general severe thunderstorm warning is also current for the Southern Tablelands, South West Slopes, Australian Capital Territory and parts of the Illawarra, South Coast, Central Tablelands, Central West Slopes and Plains, Riverina and Snowy Mountains districts. 05.01.2022 ACT Health is warning Canberrans about the potential for a thunderstorm asthma event in the ACT region today (Sunday 22 November) and tomorrow (Monday 23 Novemb...er). The warning comes as we see elevated pollen levels and the possibility of severe thunderstorms over the next two days, increasing the risk of a thunderstorm asthma event. People who suffer from hay fever or asthma are encouraged to be vigilant for any worsening of their condition. Thunderstorm asthma can be sudden, serious and even life threatening for people with asthma or hay fever. Protect yourself, or someone you care for, from risk by: staying indoors with windows and doors closed staying in air-conditioned premises, and if possible, switching the air conditioner to ‘recycle’ or ‘recirculate’ to reduce the amount of dust entering the building avoiding all vigorous exercise, especially if you have a heart or lung conditions If you experience asthma symptoms which are unrelieved by their usual asthma treatment, seek urgent medical advice.
