24.01.2022 A very depressing picture of what's happening at the ground level. The author is a full-time, visually impaired freelance journalist and children’s author from Guwahati in Northeast India. https://wid.org//covid-blog-how-the-covid-19-pandemic-ha/
23.01.2022 In January, 2018 we received the great news that the Australian Taxation Office has granted SESTAA the DGR (Deductible Gift Recipient) status. Since its inception, the Goalpara, Assam (India) Centre has catered to the needs of more than 1000 children with disabilities and 147 new children were registered in the service in the last one year, since August 2017. During the year, we raised a total of $10,560.00 through fundraising.
22.01.2022 Managing during the pandemic: The outreach camp in Goalpara has been suspended since March 2020 due to lockdown and challenges posed by Covid-19. It has not been possible to hold face to face services due to difficulties associated in travel and other restrictions. From April 2020, however, field worker and therapists have made contact with families of the children through phone, video calls and other means. The children of Shishu Sarothi are practising yoga with their families and keeping themselves physically and mentally fit. https://youtu.be/XIFUwqSw_54
21.01.2022 "Outreach of the camp is incredible, with children coming there from as far as 150 kilometres south and 100 kilometres north"
20.01.2022 The holiday season is here and we are busy buying gifts for our near and dear ones. Recently, one of Sestaa’s youngest supporters, Piari, donated her piggy bank collection to SESTAA for helping the special needs children. Why not consider donating your coin collection too? This is what Piari says: "Many of you have pocket money so maybe donating some of it will be a good start. Thankyou!"
19.01.2022 Join us December 13th for some social exercise and to raise money for those in need.
18.01.2022 SESTAA provides about $2,000 per year for the salary of one of the carer-cum-nurse’s in the home.
13.01.2022 Thank-you to all our friends and supporters.
10.01.2022 People with chronic conditions and disabilities, who can be particularly vulnerable to COVID-19 infection, face longstanding barriers and inequities in health care. As hospitals and public health authorities devise and share triage protocols allocating scarce critical-care resources, people with disabilities are expressing alarm that these protocols devalue them and exacerbate long-entrenched ableism in health care.
10.01.2022 The number of people with disabilities in India was stated as 21 million in the 2001 Census of India. In the 2011 census, the figure rose by 22.4% to 26.8 million. According to the 2011 census, 20.3% of people with disabilities in India have movement disabilities, 18.9% have hearing impairments, and 18.8% have visual impairments. The 2011 census additionally collected data on mental disability for the first time, and found that 5.6% of Indians with disabilities fall into that category.
09.01.2022 Recently we were fortunate to get the support and blessings from members of the Sathya Sai Association, Melbourne. We thank them for their generous contribution that will enable us to continue the work for the children with disabilities in Assam.
06.01.2022 Dr. Deepali Dhillon (President) and Ms. Smita Sabhlok (Secretary) promoting SESTAA at the Assam Convention held in Melbourne on September 29, 2018.
06.01.2022 Charity movie night for those in Melbourne. The movie is called "Blinded by the Light" from the same person who directed "Bend it like Beckham". Javed is a Pakistani teenager who experiences racial and economic turmoil while living in Luton, England, in 1987. He writes poetry as a way to escape the intolerance of his hometown and the stubborn views of his traditional father. When a classmate introduces him to the music of Bruce Springsteeen, Javed sees parallels between the singer's powerful lyrics and his own working-class environment. Springsteen's melodies soon inspire Javed to find his own voice and follow his dreams.
02.01.2022 Reminder about the movie night on October 25. Tickets are $27.46 (including online transaction fee) or otherwise $25 if you contact [email protected] directly for payment by bank transfer.
