19.01.2022 Fantastic job by our SES volunteers, along with Police, Ambulance Tasmania and the Northern Caverneers Caving Club. Together we rescued a man who had fallen while caving in the North West. He was winched to the NWRH after a technical rescue.... Great job by everyone involved. Thanks to Chris Weare, SES Search and Rescue, for the photos.

11.01.2022 Tasmania SES volunteer Bill Folder has been awarded the Australian Search and Rescue (SAR) Award for Outstanding Contribution to Search and Rescue. Bill’s award recognises his dedication and commitment to search and rescue in Tasmania. Due to COVID-19 restrictions the national awards presentation in Canberra was unable to be held this year which meant we had the pleasure of presenting Bill with the SAR Award for Outstanding Contribution to Search and Rescue along with his wi...fe Sue and family, said Acting Sergeant Callum Herbert of Tasmania Police Search and Rescue. Bill is an experienced and enthusiastic member of Tasmania’s search and rescue capability who is held in high regard with his peers. I know first-hand that Bill has made a significant impact on many within the search and rescue field as it was his influence that inspired me to join the Tasmania Police Search and Rescue team. I am honoured to stand beside Bill as he receives his Award today and congratulate him on his achievement and national recognition, said Acting Sergeant Herbert. Bill enrolled as an SES volunteer in 1977. He has been actively involved with SES operations and provided exemplary support service to managers and training to peers. Bill’s contribution towards Search and Rescue in Tasmania has been invaluable, said SES Tas Regional Manager South, Mark Nelson. He is a well-respected, keen, dedicated and reliable SES member who has trained many of his peers in remote area and alpine search and rescue operations in Tasmanian wilderness. Bill was an inaugural member of the Southern SES Search and Rescue Team when it was formed, and he was a driving force behind its establishment and development. On behalf of SES Tasmania I congratulate Bill on his Award today and thank him for his longstanding dedication and contribution to search and rescue and saving lives, said Regional Manager Nelson. 10.01.2022 Three projects aimed at building community disaster resilience and a photograph capturing resilience in action have won Tasmania’s 2020 Resilient Australia Awards presented in Hobart earlier this week. Now in their 21st year, the awards are a national program to recognise and promote initiatives which strengthen community disaster resilience, and images that capture resilience in action. Community award winner ArTELIER - All emotions allowed here... ‘All emotions allowed here’ is a book co-created by Tasmanian artists from ArTELIER and children living in their ‘iso’ bubble, in the extraordinary time of COVID-19. Local Government award winner City of Hobart Resilient Hobart The City of Hobart's 'Resilient Hobart' project encompasses five distinct initiatives, these assisted the recovery and resilience needs of impacted individuals, community groups and the broader community. Government Award winner Department of State Growth - Business Emergency Preparation Toolkit The ‘Business Emergency Preparation Toolkit’ was developed by the Department of State Growth to help business owners and operators consider what they need to effectively mitigate the risk of unexpected emergencies and help prepare for a successful recovery following the 2018/19 bushfires. Government Award Highly Commended certificate Tasmania Fire Service Disaster Resilience Education Tasmania The ‘Disaster Resilience Education Tasmania’ project is a teacher delivered disaster risk reduction and resilience education package. It features natural hazards information, supported with activities, quizzes and resources where students explore disaster resilience concepts. Photography Award winner Blair Horgan From a different angel The ‘From a different angle’ photograph (shown in this post) was taken during a joint training exercise with SES volunteers and student doctors. The exercise focused on dealing with a mass causality event and managing the scene effectively. 03.01.2022 Emergency services are asking people in the Spring Beach and Orford areas to remain vigilant and be aware of their personal safety while emergency works are und...erway to replace a bridge that washed away following heavy rainfall yesterday. Contingency plans are in place to access people in the area where vehicular access is unavailable. A police marine vessel has been deployed to the Orford area and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter is ready for dispatch if required. There will be a reduced capacity for firefighting due to fire trucks not being able to gain access to the area. However, firefighters and some small equipment will be transported across if necessary. Pedestrian access to the area remains in place. Motorists are asked to be extra careful on the roads in the area. The Glamorgan Spring Bay Council is working on the bridge replacement and information about that is available on the Glamorgan Spring Bay Council website. In the event of an emergency, contact emergency services on Triple Zero (000). If you know any vulnerable people in the area, please pass this message on to them.
