25.01.2022 Heads up Ninderry lovers. It seems our best efforts recently have not quite been our best efforts & now we have landed ourselves exactly where we were trying to avoid. This discussion has come up multiple times in the last 6 months & no matter how many warnings we get, we still aren't taking this seriously enough! The Sunshine Coast Council has now embarked on an investigation into climbing at Ninderry, thankfully in consultation with the good folk at ACAQ. No new development... is allowed until the investigation/management plan is complete. Mt Ninderry is a tranquil residential neighbourhood & climbers do not have a right to be there, we are privileged to be able to climb there. Park your car in the correct spot, be quiet & courteous when around the carpark as it is very close to neighbouring houses, follow the tracks to the cliff (whilst being aware of excess noise), & when you are at the crag for the day, don't carry on like a pork chop thinking that no one can hear you just because you're behind some trees. Keep the noise to a minimum, do the right thing, clean up after yourself & be a good custodian of our outdoor spaces, the future of them depends on it!
25.01.2022 What a humbling experience! Saturday night was the first time my film was shown to the public. Excitement, nerves, anticipation, fear... 24.01.2022 Another shot of Alex Mougenot climbing 'Stonkers & Steroids' just before the sky exploded with colour. Despite the incredible light show we were blessed with shortly after this image was taken, I still really like the way the late afternoon sun hits the wall & dances in the trees in this photo & for me it captures the beauty of climbing at Frog <3

23.01.2022 Fun fact; After the Stinson crashed in the McPherson Range on February 19 1937, the two surviving passengers, Joseph Binstead & John Proud, having been in the bush for 10 days with no food & one with a broken leg, when Bernard O'Reilly arrived at the crash site to rescue them, the first question they asked was if they could shake his hand & then what the cricket scores were. 22.01.2022 Day 3 of 5 - Cooloola Great Hike After spending a good hour with the massage ball on my shoulders the night before, I woke up on day 3 feeling a lot better than I thought I would, thank god! The rain stopped around midnight and we woke to a blanket of fog and no sunrise. Today was a shorter day so a slow breakfast and 2 coffees were in order. Before long the sun was out, tents dried up and we were packed and ready to go. After a bit of tramping through a soggy marsh, we were... back in the rainforest for what seemed like a mostly downhill-ish day. It doesn’t appear like much happened on this day as I barely have any photos, maybe it was because day 2 was such a visual feast or perhaps I was just lacking the enthusiasm I did the day before. Either way here’s a couple of walking photos, one of our tent and another of us feasting under the stars. Camp 3 was my favourite from the trip for sure! #CooloolaGreatWalk #inthebushwithmates #adventurestories #part3of5 #staytuned #mywildearth Wild Earth SCARPA Osprey Packs Australia Marmot Australia XTM Performance Visit Sunshine Coast Gympie Cooloola Tourism
22.01.2022 The Brisbane premiere of my film 'In the Footsteps of John Stuart' is official! The screening will be held at Urban Climb Milton on Saturday 21st November from 7pm. The film will be screened in the carpark behind UC Milton (outside the training dungeon) so that there will be no disruption to gym opening hours. You will need to bring your own chair. Prior to the premiere of 'In the Footsteps of John Stuart', a series of shorts & trailers will be aired thanks to Adventure Reels.... After the film we will be having a Q&A with some of the team from the trip. Every ticket holder gets a free Builders protein bar from our friends at #ClifBarAus & there will be spot prizes given out from our friends at Climbing Anchors & Clif Bar as well as a raffle to win an Osprey Packs Australia duffle bag (x2). There will be beer available courtesy of Urban Climb which will cost you a donation to ACAQ via the on-site ACAQ donation tapper, how good a deal is that!? 20% of all proceeds from the night will be donated to the ACAQ (Australian Climbing Association Qld Inc) to help them as they continue to fight for access for climbing in QLD. Tickets are $15 each (plus Eventbrite service fee) strictly limited to 80 in order to comply with the QLD Government COVID Safe requirements so get in quick & don't miss out!
21.01.2022 To round out a bloody ripper of a day on Saturday out at Frog, we had one of the best sunsets of the year so far! It was about 11am when I started to notice the cloud moving away from the horizon, giving room to a late appearance of the sun. From experience, I have learnt that a cloudy day with a gap on the horizon can produce some of the best sunsets so I started getting excited and thinking of how I could set up a sunset shot in case it developed the way I hoped and thought... it might. As late Arvo drew nearer the likelihood of a good sunset weakened but I was still hopeful and not to be deterred. I adjusted my fixed line and pulled way to the left on a bolt I found on ‘Sadhana’ while my good sidekick Alex Mougenot (who was keen to do whatever I asked of him to help get the shot) was making his way up to the route ‘I’m A Mop’ (21). He reached the arête at the exact moment the sun punched out from under its cloudy blanket and lit up the whole cliff a glowing orange! Everyone at the crag stopped in awe of the colours and I started pressing the shutter button. Alex danced on the arête for sometime for my amusement and as the sun dipped further on the horizon, the colours in the sky increased into a mind blowing sunset of purples, blues, oranges and pinks and this is the result. Thanks heaps to Alex for always being so helpful when it comes to situations like this. With out you this shot just wouldn’t be the same. Better get in quick as I have a feeling these will get snapped up fast! Also, just a reminder that you will need to BYO chair to sit on. The screening will be taking place in the back carpark & concrete generally is not that comfortable so grab your camp chair & chuck it in the boot of your car now so you don't forget! Can't wait to see you all there!
15.01.2022 Day 4 of 5 - Cooloola Great Hike Another 20+ km day today but after getting into I’m the day before pretty early, we were well rested and feeling fresh after a wash. Having eaten over half our food now, our packs were feeling a bit more manageable now. Straight out of camp and into more rainforest, the Cooloola Coast sure is a beautiful place to walk! It was pretty much rainforest all day that seemed to get denser with each step. ... Being our second last day I was pretty happy to soak up the good times with good friends today and much like yesterday, the camera took a backseat. Only being turned on if we approached something of interest. After 7hrs on foot, we arrived at our final camp for the trip, greeted by a party of 6 or 7 older females from a hiking group in Sydney. Thankfully they didn’t take up every camp site and we nestled into the final 2 clearings before exploring camp and devouring the rest of our meals. We spent the last night talking nonsense, eating whatever we didn’t want to carry and simply enjoying our final night in the bush before retiring to the warmth of our sleeping bags. #CooloolaGreatWalk #inthebushwithmates #adventurestories #part4of5 #staytuned #mywildearth Wild Earth Marmot Australia SCARPA Osprey Packs Australia XTM Performance Visit Sunshine Coast Gympie Cooloola Tourism
15.01.2022 Day 2 of 5 - Cooloola Great Hike The hardest day of the trip for me but the obvious standout looking back at it. Straight out of camp that morning and the trail rose up out of the forest and swiftly onto sandy ridge lines with endless coastal views. Lots of stopping for photos, videos and drone flying as the scenery was breathtaking. Knowing we had over 20km to do today, I kept the stops short and sweet and got just what I needed and nothing more. The day kept getting better... and before long we emerged from dense rain forest onto the Cooloola Sand Patch, the highlight of the Cooloola Great Hike. Akin to walking on Mars, this sand crossing was baron yet beautiful and not even the trees that once stood could survive. After spending just enough time here to soak in our surroundings it was time to get going if we wanted to make camp by nightfall. Every few km’s my shoulders were reminding me that the weight of my pack was severely over the 20% of your body weight rule. Willingly agreeing to carry this weight though meant that complaining was not an option and I did my best to disperse the burden. Camp 2 of 4 is nestled alongside the Upper Noosa River and although the guide says a few km’s of flat trail leads into camp, this section felt endless. My shoulders had developed knots the size of tennis balls and I could barely lift my right arm. At long last we arrived at camp right on sunset and I put the drone up while Jack pitches the tent. It was a cracker of a sunset with the golden rays bouncing off the calm, winding bends of the Noosa River. Night fell and we got stuck into some grub. About halfway through dinner the heavens opened, ending any time we had hoped to have outside of our tents. An early night was probably best though as I was concerned for the state of my shoulders and how they would handle another 15km+ day carrying that pack tomorrow. Lucky I brought a massage ball! #CooloolaGreatWalk #inthebushwithmates #adventurestories #part2of5 #staytuned #mywildearth Wild Earth Marmot Australia SCARPA Osprey Packs Australia XTM Performance Visit Sunshine Coast Gympie Cooloola Tourism

14.01.2022 bit of a fun one this one, cutting together old surf clips from the 80's Burleigh Stubbies event for Josh Bystrom. 11.01.2022 There has been an explosion of development in SE QLD in the last 12-18 months which is so epic to see. If you are heading out to any of the new crags anytime soon just remember that helmets are advised as there is more likely than not still a lot of loose rock around, stick to the trail and don’t wander about the bush, and respect the environment you’re in to help secure ongoing access. 10.01.2022 Day 5 of 5 - Cooloola Great Walk With our final camp being in a rainforest, it only seemed fitting to wake up to rain. This morning called for breakfast in bed! The ladies from Sydney had decided to get up and hit the trail before brekky so we soaked up a nice peaceful campsite for a little while, listening to the rain hit the tree leaves. About 6km out of camp lies Poona Lake which is just under half of the distance we had to travel today. We packed our gear and hit the tra...il on a mission for Poona Lake where it was decided we would have pit stop and potential swim if the weather cleared. It didn’t. We arrived at Poona lake around 10am and it was still overcast and a little cold so no one braved the temptation of a swim. We hit the trail again eager to see if my car was still in one piece after sitting at Rainbow Beach for 5 days. The remainder of the trail was more akin to a fire road than a hiking trail, most likely symbolising we were getting closer to civilisation again. After more elevation than we had hoped for, we had arrived at the Carlo Sandblow which makes the end of the Cooloola Great Walk. It was a beautiful spot to finish, crossing the pre-historic sand dune that flows into the ocean, with Double Island Point poking its head around the corner. 900m from here to the carpark where we could take our packs off for the final time on this trip. No trip is complete without a feed and a beer (ginger beer for me because i was doing dry July) at the pub after so off to Rainbow Beach Hotel it was for us! 09.01.2022 Cooloola Great Walk - Day 1 of 5 Starting at the trail head in the rain is never a good opener for a multi-day trek but with the right equipment, we were not to be waivered. We left Noosa North Shore at a lazy 10am, knowing a short day was afoot. Rain jackets and pack covers on, we were stoked to not be confined to our houses for the next 5 days as we had the previous months and all we had to worry about was walking, cooking and sleeping, everything else got put on hold. Bef...ore long we hit the beach, a strange feeling to be walking here and not driving, the feeling confirmed by the looks we got from the 4x4’s drivers that wizzed past every so often. Back on the trail surrounded by native Aussie bush, more so where a hiker should be, our little group had a lot to talk about. The hours past as we chatted and wound our way through the hills past Teewah Village and up to Mt Seewah. The rain didn’t let up all day but at least it made for a good test of wet gear, as the rest of the crew were popping their multi-day hike cherry. Not far past Teewah Village was Camp 1 of 4 and with my pack weighing 28kg this morning, it was a welcome sight. The tents went up in the only remaining site available and we sat around the timber table sorting cook systems and getting stuck into our dehydrated food of choice for the trip. We laughed and ate before tucking into our tents knowing that day 2 was going to be a slog. #CooloolaGreatWalk #inthebushwithmates #adventurestories #part1of5 #staytuned #mywildearth Wild Earth Marmot Australia SCARPA Osprey Packs Australia XTM Performance Visit Sunshine Coast Gympie Cooloola Tourism
09.01.2022 On a chilly, overcast Saturday the 23rd May 2020, QLD's hardest pure trad route saw back-to-back redpoint ascents (yes, placing the gear) by Alex Mougenot & Kyle Addy after only 3 weeks of projecting it! The route is Kim Carrigan's 'Brown Corduroy Trousers' (28) which is a well respected thin & technical shallow corner crack with small gear & big whip potential. With the 6 move crux section all being above your last small wire, this route has a gnarly reputation &, as it says... in the guide, is a huge one on the wish list for many budding Frog-climbing Gods. Not to mention that this striking line flows up beautiful section of bomber orange rock with body positions that would make a yoga instructor blush. To be hanging on a rope while these guys danced their way up a vertical face of seemingly impossible moves while placing protection was next level in my eyes. I've seen a lot of very cool (and sometimes very hard) ascents but watching this was something else. With Alex nabbing the send first shot of the day & Kyle following shortly after lunch, this was somewhat of a fairytale ending for these lads & couldn't have been more fitting!
