16.01.2022 Settled To Sleep is expecting bubby #4! YAY! . . Soon I will have 4 under 5.... Can you imagine! .... . I have secretly been working on another project to add to Settled To Sleep! But because of this I have made the tough decision to finish my current bookings and not take on any new families at this stage. I now have limited time on my side . . Because of the extra time I will be getting. Not only will I be focusing on producing something exciting for Settled To Sleep! 14.01.2022 HUNGER PLAY TIRED I NEED SLEEP .... . Here is what to look out for! . . HUNGER - Your little bub will give away a few "im hungry" cues before they throw you the "im starving" tears! Tears are a late cue for many of bub's needs! Sucking fists, rooting of their mouths that cause them to make sucking noises or even the little cute sounds that happen as they lead up to a cry! This is usually your bub saying "okay im hungry mumma" Crying is a late cue, YES sometimes It's unavoidable! But letting bub get to the crying stage repeatedly can lead you to some feeding struggles. Latching is difficult when bub is upset and if you do succeed in calming bub before you latch them, they most likely have less energy to carry out a solid feed. A poor feed can = a poor sleep. . . PLAY - To be honest in the early days after a nappy change and feeding there is not much time for play! But as your bub grows their awake times become longer and the more they want to engage and interact! Bub will be focusing on you and your voice and if able to, they will turn their head in the direction of the stimulation. Little lips may become puckered and their arm/leg movements will be calm and slow. If bub is Smiling, babbling and making eye contact, then they are enjoying their play! . . IM GETTING TIRED - These cues are important and will determine how your bub goes down to sleep and how well they sleep! Usually the first cue is looking away. When bub has to much stimulation going on they will look away or stare past the busyness! This is a sure sign they have had enough. Jerky arm/leg movements, whinging, red above eyebrows, rubbing of their face/ears and frowning are all early tired signs. It is when you notive these signs you want to start getting your bub ready for a sleep! . . I NEED SLEEP NOW- If you miss the subtle im getting tired cues. You will see bub yawning and crying along with very tight clenched fists. This bub is now overtired, needs to be calmed (can take a bit) and helped off to sleep. White noise and a very dark room will help you calm this bub. . . These cues are the common cues. It does not mean every baby will display them. Watch and learn from your bub! See more
11.01.2022 When your new bundle of joy joins the family it is such an exciting time! Family and friends visiting and hubby home to help and enjoy it all! . . But then hubby returns to work and the visitors slow down. ... Now the focus shifts to perfecting timing of sleeps (so you can rest too) and sharing attention between your two loves. . . When trying to get your little ones down for their sleep, my number one tip would be to focus on your toddler 1st. Get bubby in the baby sling/carrier or in a safe possy to keep them happy. Aim to get your toddler into bed at their normal time, their normal way. . . Toddlers LOVE consistency. . . Having this new baby around is a big change for your toddler and can be alot to take on board. 09.01.2022 FOMO IS REAL! Especially if you have a SOCIAL little bub! . . Rushing to get your little one down for their nap won't be doing you any favours, Bub will sense your urgency. If you have older siblings roaring around the house or outside bubs window, you can almost gurantee bub won't want to nap. This comes down to FOMO, A fear of missing out! .... . Before you attempt nap time set an all round calming mood in the house. Get older siblings to have some chill out time to help bub chill out too. If nothing exciting is happening then bub will be happy to go to sleep! . . After you have set a calm mood Settled To Sleep swears by a "WIND DOWN!" Your bub needs time to wind down before they are expected to sleep. You can encourage this by pulling bub away from older siblings, taking them into their darkened room, having some quiet play, reading a book or having a cuddle can make all the difference! . . Social bub tips; 1.) If you have been out and about and are heading home for nap time, Definitely give them 10-15min at home before heading into their room for sleep. This bub won't like going straight from car to bed. 2.) Social bubs are harder to notice tired signs and will usually dish them out once they are Overtired. 3.) A social bub finds outdoor play very stimulating. 09.01.2022 If your bub is overtired you can definitely expect a battle at sleep time, the quality of their sleep to be poor and more wakings! . . "REALLY... WHY?" .... . When your bub begins to feel tired they enter a relaxed sleepy state. This is a PERFECT time to be getting them off to sleep! If You miss this window it won't take long for bub to become overtired. When bub becomes overtired their body releases a hormone to fight sleep and help keep them awake. Now what we have is a bub that wants to sleep but is completely WIRED! For most bubs this sensation is overwhelmig and will make them very fussy and unpredictable. The problem is they can move from the relaxed sleepy state to overtired very quickly and with little warning! . . "So what can I do!?" . . Learn your bubs tired signs. Some can be as mild as twirling their hair. Watch out for these tired signs. Keep an eye on the clock to know when it's nearing their sleep time.
