14.01.2022 "I didn't want the children to have to go into a family where they look different physically. I liked [SSI] because I felt a child with a similar or the same background would find it easier to feel like they fit in with our family." When Kim* and her husband first started with SSI's Multicultural Foster Care program, they thought they would ease themselves into the foster caring with short-term care arrangements. Now, three years later the couple are still looking after their first foster child on a long-term basis. Read Kim's story here: https://bit.ly/3jALkFh

10.01.2022 In the spirit of Human Rights Day earlier this month, The Melody of Humanity, a cross-cultural and multilingual music video, was launched at the Community Refugee Welcome Centre in Callan Park, Lilyfield on December 8. Production of the eight-minute video fostered social inclusion and participation while providing an opportunity for refugee artists to present their work during the pandemic. Solmaz Mirzaei arrived in Australia from Iran as a refugee two years ago and attended the event. Read about her account of the launch here
09.01.2022 To celebrate SSI's 20th Anniversary, our vision was to see 20 Ignite entrepreneurs or small businesses supported through sponsorship by values-aligned and socially conscious organisations across Australia. This year, we are extremely grateful to Western Sydney International Airport for sponsoring 5 Ignite entrepreneurs; Suncorp, who sponsored 10 Ignite small business start-ups; and Commonwealth Bank who have chosen Ignite as a recipient of their CommBank Staff Foundation f...estive season fundraising campaign. By sponsoring Ignite Small Business Start-ups, these valued partners have provided employment and income generation opportunities to individuals from diverse backgrounds, many of them newly arrived in Australia. Their investment will directly support entrepreneurs to achieve their business goals, support their families and integrate into their new home. Thank You to SSI's Official 20th Anniversary Partners: Western Sydney International Airport, Suncorp and Commonwealth Bank.
