Though forced to withdraw, the garrison l...eft between 3000 and 4000 Japanese dead on the shores of the bay and harbour. The Australian's were ordered "every man for himself". 19.01.2022 On May 30th, 2013, Paul Liversidge presents his great-grandmother's seven-star Female Relatives Badge and four-star Mothers and Widows Badge to the Australian War Memorial for donation. Along with the donations were the dog tags worn by his grandfather, Mike (Malcolm) Hutchins, who survived the war. Mary Hutchins and her husband, Henry, did not know what had happened to their four missing sons for years. They lived in the hope that by some miracle they might come home. Hope d...ied forever in a single week in February 1946 when four telegrams, each confirming their worst fears, arrived. Three came on the same day. http://www.canberratimes.com.au//one-familys-sacrifice-nev https://www.awm.gov.au///mother-and-her-seven-soldier-sons

17.01.2022 Today marks the 70th Anniversary of the Liberation of Ambon island, one of the worst death camps of the second world war. Three Hutchins brothers served on Ambon Island, David (33), Eric (18) and Fred (24). The men of Gull Force had the highest death rate per capita of any Australian prisoners of war, said military historian Tom Lewis, and one of the worst atrocities committed during the war in the Pacific was at the Laha airstrip on Ambon, where the Japanese executed the me...n of B and C companies of the second 21st infantry battalion. 3/4 of the men on Ambon lost their lives to the war machine known as the Japanese Imperial Forces. The three Hutchins brothers suffered immensely during their imprisonment on the island, enduring physical and psychological abuse, lack of food and water, and ultimately their demise. Please share with you friends and family the story of the Hutchins family and the men who lost their lives on Ambon island. A minute silence is not enough Lest We Forget. 10.01.2022 This post is dedicated to the memory of Private Nathan Bewes, who tragically lost his life 5 years ago last week on the 9th of July, 2010. Bewes was then taking part in Operation Slipper and was on his second deployment in Afghanistan (Mar Oct 2008, Jan Jul 2010). No Australian family suffered more than the Hutchins family. Seven brothers fought overseas in World War Two. Four of the brothers, Alan, Eric, David and Fred would never see home again. The memorial erected, would see that their memory was set in stone, and their sacrifice would never be forgotten. See more
