25.01.2022 For those who would like info on how to help our bushfire affected wildlife and their tireless carers

22.01.2022 There are some incredible people out there caring for all the injured and orphaned wildlife in the wake of last weeks devastating fires. If youre keen to help out, check out this page and corresponding group for details on what to make and where to send. Today Im busy prepping a bunch of fabric to take to my sons cub scouts group tonight where well be getting the children to help us make Joey pouches and bat wraps. I cant wait!

21.01.2022 {RETREAT PREP CONTINUES} Ive added another two quick wins to my retreat making basket ready for this weekend The ever popular Ogden Cami in a plain black viscose-something blend and a Eucalypt tank in a dusty pink silk blend. Both fabrics are from the new Megan Nielsen Patterns studio in Wembley. Anyone else going crazy sewing summer staples at the moment? I have my faves but am always open to suggestions if you have any to share?

21.01.2022 Today Ive been busy pre-cutting fabric ready for our next group of beginners starting next week. In the first lesson of Sew from Scratch our students make a washable cutlery (or sunglasses) pouch. We provide the fabric already cut and ready to go so everyone can make and take home a finished pouch! What was the first thing you ever sewed? Can you even remember?

21.01.2022 Only sewists know this is truly the greatest compliment

21.01.2022 Right, so Im officially in full-blown throw-in-all-the-retreat-projects mode!!! This morning I found in my sewing pile of shame/mess, this stunning @maaidesign fabric always destined to be a Kielo Wrap Dress. And guess what?! Past me has already traced the pattern AND to top it off, I found a pair of already cut, ready to sew @megannielsenpatterns Flint shorts that I havent been able to find for the past two years!! Unfortunately theyre a size too small for me currently but definitely still worth sewing up and with reducing seam allowances well see how we go! My extremely ambitious retreat list is getting longer by the minute Lets see how much sewing I can get done in 72 hours. Who needs sleep anyways?

20.01.2022 Do you use this trick? I actually own one of those little magnetic seam guides but tbh while its good for straight lines it can sometimes be a bit restrictive for garment sewing Does anyone else find this? Using tape really helps me to highlight the markings on my machine, is cheap and quick and doesnt restrict my sewing around curves - - -... - - #sewforlife #sewingperth #sewinginperth #perthsewing #perthsewingclasses #perthsewcialists #perthcreatives #perthhandmade #learntosew #sew #isew #sewcialists #thedailyseam #sewingadvice #sewing101 #instasew #handmadewa #perthcreates #perthcraft #perthmums #perthmakers #perth_pop #loveperthlife #happyperth #sewersofinstagram See more

20.01.2022 {HOORAY!!!!!} For anyone whos heard me complaining about my Case of the Missing Morris Blazer over the past THREE years will appreciate the excitement I feel for finally finding it!!!!! Can you believe it was wrapped up with all my camping clothes in a wooden clothes chest in our bedroom?! I have two fleece jackets I use for camping that are exactly the same colour so I must have just shoved it all back in there after getting home. I had taken my Morris Blazer with me for my one fancy outfit to wear out to my birthday lunch. That was in December 2016

18.01.2022 Today I’ve been busy pre-cutting fabric ready for our next group of beginners starting next week. In the first lesson of Sew from Scratch our students make a washable cutlery (or sunglasses) pouch. We provide the fabric already cut and ready to go so everyone can make and take home a finished pouch! What was the first thing you ever sewed? Can you even remember?

18.01.2022 Sewing retreat prep has begun!!! First on the list are the Papercut Patterns Palisade shorts which will be a great summer staple for school/sports runs, barbecues by the pool, park plays etc. Ive cut them in a gorgeous Potter & Co tencel/cotton blend and cant wait to see how they sew up ... This pattern is available for purchase and you can grab your copy from our limited stock. See more

15.01.2022 {UPDATE FROM SEW FOR LIFE} Im sure no one will be surprised to hear that we have had to postpone our Term 1 classes for now and are unsure if the Term 2 classes will go ahead as planned. This is obviously disappointing for everyone but a necessary and important step to ensure we are doing our bit to protect the most vulnerable community members and support our health care workers as we embark on a difficult journey ahead.... Its not all doom and gloom though If youre a past SFL customer, Im offering an exclusive virtual event for you all in the Sew for Life VIP Community Facebook group so please come and join if you havent already. At the moment this offer is only available as a gift to our past customers to say thank you for their support over the years but who knows?! If this goes on for a while, I may host something for the rest of you also Stay tuned for updates and Ill do my best to share what sewing I get up to with my kids at home. Be healthy, be safe and be kind Virtual hugs, Nat x Quote source unknown but it made me smile @ Perth, Western Australia

10.01.2022 It was a special friends birthday recently so of course I had to make him a t-shirt Im quite picky about who I make tees for as my sewing time is super limited these days, but the mum of this boy is an absolute gem to me and my kiddies, always going the extra mile to help us out. Plus I know her kids love it when I make them tees which is a added bonus! The birthday boy is my 6yos bestie so he chose the fabric from my stash and I got sewing the morning of the party. Lu...cky its a quick sew and because I didnt have time to retire as my overlocker which the different colours needed, I did this one all on my regular machine and then coverstitch for the hems The feedback was he loved it and couldnt believe that I made it What do you think? Pattern: Safari Raglan Titchy Threads Fabric: Sew unique fabrics Label: This is the back Kylie and the Machine

09.01.2022 I think this article is a wonderful celebration of a re-emerging craft but my experience is that its growing across all generations, not just millennials. What do you think?

07.01.2022 {RETREAT PROJECT #3} A pair of Emerson shorts that I KNOW will get tonnes of wear this summer Im pretty sure this fabric is Morrison deadstock that I have tonnes of and have used for the binding on my quilt-that-may-never-get-finished-at-the-rate-I-handsew. This should be a nice quick make to get my sew-jo started next Thursday afternoon. How many sleeps is it??

07.01.2022 Retreat prep progress... Project two on my list for next weekends retreat is a Closet Case Patterns Cielo top. Ive made one of these already with the statement gathered sleeves, but this second one will be with regular short sleeves (View A). Im also considering a dress version too but Im sticking to my prep list for now and trying not to get distracted The fabric I picked up recently from @potter_and_co_australia but cant remember the blend sorry I do have a co...uple of copies of the pattern available if youre after one, just DM me or visit the website. - - - - - #sewforlife #sewingperth #sewinginperth #perthsewing #perthsewingclasses #perthsewingstore #perthsewcialists #perthcreatives #perthhandmade #instasew #perthhappenings #sewingpatterns #sewingpatternstore #onlinesewingpatterns #onlinepatternstore #perthmakers #perthsewingpatterns #sewingaustralia #sewingpatterns #indiesew #sewersofinstagram See more

04.01.2022 WOAH!! You guuuyssss! The website went into overdrive last night (including a few little hiccups!) but the short story is that all the term 1 classes are now fully booked I know some people have been disappointed and I can only apologise but please remember we are just a small business of mums doing our best to bring our passion for teaching and sewing to the Perth community. We plan to have more opportunities for classes in Term 2 and throughout the year so we hope to meet more of you then!

03.01.2022 This is so interesting!! Must watch sewing tips for your next space travel trip

03.01.2022 We chatted about this in two of our course lessons last week. Have you ever bought a RTW top and after one wash, the side seams are all twisted?? This is likely because the fabric wasnt cut on grain. Its SO important to get this right during the cutting out stage even if it takes a bit of fiddling about and time

03.01.2022 Were BAAAAAACKKKK!! We are so excited to be back teaching our classes again and have a few weeks of catch up to do before we can release the Term 3 classes. Stay tuned to your inbox for latest updates.

02.01.2022 {RETREAT ROUND-UP} Thank you thank you THANK YOU to this fabulous group of ladies I had the absolute pleasure of spending the past 72 hours with!! Catch ups with old friends, new friendships made, new skills, tonnes of projects, plenty of food, wine and laughs Hers a small selection of the projects completed over the weekend... some highlights include (not in order sorry!) @katmcms first Tea Party Dress, @bkrcreatives foxy PJs, @neenacles special pouch liners for injured bush fire wildlife, @simmales first Brumby skirt, a Darling ranges dress, a gorgeous apron and quilt, my Cielo top, and the first retreat attended by Anne, Janine and myself from the SFL team! Id call that a successful weekend, yes?

02.01.2022 Wow! This piece is incredible wouldnt you say??

02.01.2022 {SUMMER MUM-IFORM} Im learning to embrace the linen wrinkles because the comfort factor of these #emersonshorts is next level With the warm weather approaching, Ill be transitioning from my mum-uniform of winter jeans to summer shorts and this is definitely not going to be the last pair of these shorts Ill make (in fact Im cutting another pair for retreat!) Do you have a go-to summer shorts pattern? Im looking for recommendations so I dont end up with 20 pairs of these, (although I can think of worse things...)
