21.01.2022 Routine. Many of us say we do not want it, but we all need it, and have it. At this time of physical distancing routine becomes so much more important. Routines give our minds cues as to what is coming, and how to act. What routines help you? At the start of this week our family started back at "school at home". The first day started slow and ended with both parents exhausted as we pushed our kids through the day. Grizzly bears where everywhere! By today we have nearly ...got back into the rhythm. This includes favourite soft toys being placed in the day care spot while kids are at school, breakfast happening at a reasonable time, and "walking to school". The routine helps get us in a frame of mind to do the things we need to do. Other routines that are helping us include; 1. Sticking closish to bedtimes - it helps us get up well rested. 2. Making sure we have some physical exercise in the day - controls angry bear, dad! 3. Eating dinner together and sharing what we liked about the day and any struggles - making sure we celebrate little wins like finishing a hard bit of work. 4. When we are getting agro using music to calm us. 5. Reading Scripture and Prayer - particularly in the evening, but at other times as well. Going to bed being reminded of God's care for us all relaxes us for sleep. 6. Practising Grace - when others in the house really annoy us we remember that it is very rare that any of us want to upset the others. This reduces the carry over effect of arguments/disagreements. The book of Philippians in the Bible (A letter to a church nearly 2000 years ago) has some great things to say about routine. In Chapter 4:4-9 (printed at the end of this post) the suggested routines are; praising God, being gentle, pray to God who is near, focus on the good. Then God's peace will come. Philippians 4:4-9 - Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirableif anything is excellent or praiseworthythink about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in meput it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.

16.01.2022 Here is a great piece of music and lyrics which at so many levels speaks to our current times. Have you ever wanted to start the day again? How do you cope? Even for those who are coping well with the Corona Virus disruption to life there are times life is tough. We have struggles that are a mix of events happening in life and our response to them. Paul Kelly sings Every minute every hour, The replays just the same, And I can't stand the shame. Mulling over our shame ...cripples us. Paul Kelly goes on to sing that his prayer to start today again is in vain. He is right. However, the Biblical God mentioned in this song clearly demonstrated that He is not interested in condemnation, but in saving the world from its pain (eg. John 3:16-17). The life, death and resurrection of Jesus show that God cares enough to be part of our world, to enter into suffering. His friends & disciples abandoned him and left him to be tried, beaten and crucified all alone. Yet death did not defeat Jesus, and Jesus does not want us to allow death, or shame, to defeat us. Instead of replaying the same shame every day, Jesus offers a chance to receive forgiveness, to start again from today. This is what was on offer to the kings and queens of the Bible, and is on offer for us today. The prayer If I could start today again is in vain, but the prayer of ‘God help me start again today’ is the best, most effective, prayer that anyone can pray. 12.01.2022 Here is a story some say is true, some say is just a story. I believe it is true and has great meaning, comfort, hope for us at this time.

11.01.2022 We're starting to meet face-to-face for the first time since the end of March. Outdoors 0900 at Avenel, and indoors 1100 at Seymour. Limited at each to 20 people. We're pretty much at capacity tomorrow for our Church Family, but eagerly looking forward to further loosening of restrictions over the next weeks, and more people able to attend. 08.01.2022 What do you call a tired Penguin? A Puffin!! Happy Fathers Day to all those fathers out there. I hope your are not Puffin too hard at the moment. This Fathers day, find a Dad and encourage them. If you are game post your answers to the following. 1. What do you love about Dads, or being a Dad? 2. Give us a dad joke!... Being a Dad is an amazing gift that we are given. Who would have thought we could feel such love? We have such influence on the lives of our children, particularly in the first 7 years. At our best we help to create boundaries, and stretch them. We help our young ones learn to jump into life, and show them that it is good to make mistakes because then you can learn. Sometimes we do a great job, and other times we fall well short of the mark. We need to be kind to ourselves. As one Parenting Guru, Steve Biddulph, once said, as long as we get things pretty right about 70% (testing my memory of a session I attended) of the time then our kids will thrive. This is the dream we all have for our children. Matthew 7:9-11 (NLT) You parentsif your children ask for a loaf of bread, do you give them a stone instead? Or if they ask for a fish, do you give them a snake? Of course not! So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him. Let us rest in our heavenly Father and find our strength to be the Fathers we were made to be. By the way, did you know that CS Lewis uses a Lion as his Christ like figure in the Chronicles of Narnia? Enjoy the song!

04.01.2022 The Tokyo Olympics were to happen from 23 July 8 August this year. Have you missed them? For a bit of fun here are a few Olympic ideas for you. Set up a few Olympic activities at home; straw javelin, floor swimming (works best on slippery surfaces), bath boat races (make a paper boat and race it in your bath). For more ideas go to https://youthgroupgames.com.au/category/mini-olympics/ Set up races around your back yard, a gymnastics challenge, obstacle course. In...vent your own Olympic sports. Trampoline? Snail racing? Balloon balancing (how many people can fit on an upturned table that is held off the ground by balloons)? Whatever you decide, why not share your ideas and photos with others on Facebook or another social networking App? Let’s also acknowledge the Olympic efforts of so many in our community. Police, Emergency Services, physical mental and spiritual health staff, politicians, teachers, Centrelink staff, home school parents & kids, cleaners, supermarket staff, and the list goes on. All of us are having to put in big efforts to play our part in reducing the impact of COVID-19. Let’s keep up the effort, and particularly make an effort to look out for those who may be doing it tough; the lonely, business owners, people out of work One wise person wrote that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame (Romans 3:3-5). This writer was talking about hope in God because of who Jesus is. Hope that springs from God being with us in suffering, helping us to a future that is good, now and for eternity. If this is true then we have great reason to persevere in this difficult time, to continue with Olympic games and efforts.
