23.01.2022 Congratulations Seymour Health! We are proud to announce that we have recently achieved the smokefree workplace benchmark through the Achievement Program. This is an evidenced based program that is supported by the Victorian Government and delivered by the Cancer Council that helps to assist various settings create a healthier environment.... This means that we have put policies, procedures and supports in place to create a smokefree environment whilst supporting those who would like to quit smoking. From now on, when admitted to the hospital and if you smoke, you will be offered support to quit smoking if you’re ready.
23.01.2022 Australian women comprise a large proportion of the informal work sector within our economy, either via self-employment in enterprises like food stalls, cleaning or caring services, or as casual or day shift workers. Casual work may offer women the flexibility they often need to fit in domestic and unpaid care work for their families, however this flexibility comes at a cost - financial insecurity and limited work entitlements, longevity and progression in the workforce. Thes...e structural factors leave women vulnerable to discrimination in employment, to unfair dismissal and unequal treatment in the workplace. And, as we have seen during the Covid-19 pandemic, these systemic factors place women at a higher health risk as they feel pressure to not skip shifts or take sick leave and continue to work in unsafe environments. #16dayscampaign #16days#orangetheworld #respectis #callitout
20.01.2022 Seymour Health would like to take this opportunity to thank our past and present Board Members/Directors and Life Governors. Over the years we have had numerous dedicated community members involved in performing this important level of governance, and we thank them for their service.
18.01.2022 Did you know that 64 per cent of Australian women's work hours go unpaid? It's completely unacceptable, isn't it? And yet, domestic and caring duties are not often framed as being "work" of the same value as that which attracts a wage, so it's harder to see gender inequality at play. Women shouldering the lion's share of domestic duties sets women up for gaps in work, lower wages, smaller superannuation funds and is proportionate risk of poverty.... The idea that "women belong in the home" is a relic from a bygone era, and one that we all have a responsibility to challenge, in the name of equality. #16dayscampaign #16days#orangetheworld #respectis #callitout
17.01.2022 The support of our community has always been integral to the smooth running of the hospital over our 100-year history. The hospital is grateful to have the ongoing generous support from our local community members, including the numerous fundraising campaigns that have been run throughout our history. We look forward to continuing to support the community in Seymour and the surrounding areas in the years to come.

15.01.2022 Seymour Health is proud to be involved in the 16 Days of Activism campaign.
15.01.2022 It's day five of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-based Violence. And even though it's a Sunday, thousands of Australian women are working in the informal economy today without penalty rates or the entitlements granted to those in the formal economy. You have the power to change this, whoever you are and wherever you work. Advocate for your workplace to take responsibility and adopt best practice remuneration, paid leave and collective bargaining models, to ensure all women have the same basic work rights. #16dayscampaign #16days#orangetheworld #respectis #callitout
13.01.2022 So often, women are excluded from the highest levels of decision making, whether it's in government or business sectors, or in the community. This means that our politics, economy, society and culture continue to be shaped largely by the male imagination. The Covid-19 pandemic has demonstrated that decision-making at the highest level must be representative of all, if it is to produce social and economic outcomes that are designed to work for our diverse communities.... There is also powerful evidence that suggests that gender equal workplaces, with leadership positions held by women, contribute to greater work satisfaction for all. #16dayscampaign #16days#orangetheworld #respectis #callitout

09.01.2022 Thank you all for celebrating 100 years of the Seymour hospital. We are very proud to be a part of the Seymour community and are grateful for your ongoing and continuous support.
08.01.2022 There's no such thing as "men's work" or "women's work", so it's time for us all to challenge this outdated paradigm. On day three of the 16 Days of Activism, commit to changing the gendered landscape of your domestic life and strive to share caring and domestic duties equally. Seymour Health supports flexible work options for all and shared care parental leave so that all parents and carers have equal opportunity to... make, and are equally valued for their contribution to both paid and unpaid work. #16dayscampaign #16days#orangetheworld #respectis #callitout
07.01.2022 Elderly people are more prone to heat stress than younger people because their body may not adjust well to sudden or prolonged temperature change. They are als...o more likely to have a chronic medical condition and be taking medication that may interfere with the body’s ability to regulate temperature. Check in on someone elderly today who might be suffering in the extreme heat. For advice: https://www.betterhealth.vic.gov.au/heat
06.01.2022 In Australia, on average, one woman a week is murdered by her current or former partner. Violence against women is driven by gender inequality. We can achieve gender equality and prevent violence against women through active learning, conscious decisions, respectful behaviour and by eliminating unconscious bias at home, at work and in the community. During the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-based Violence, from November 25 to December 10, use your voice, your platform and your own actions to bring gender equality into your work, your community and your world and to prevent gender-based violence. #16dayscampaign #16days #orangetheworld #respectis #callitout #generationequality
