22.01.2022 TRACK UPDATE The Seymour track raced well over the spring, with the highlights being the bet365 Seymour Cup on October 20 and the bet365 Kilmore Cup on November 24. However, over the past two years the rye grass track has not coped very well over the summer months. The track profile heats up quite considerably during the summer and the rye grass roots die back and this has led to excessive kick back in races. It was therefore decided to replace the rye grass with kiku...yu which is a hot weather grass. At the end of November contractors came in with large machines and skimmed off the top 2.5mm of the track, removing the crown of the rye. Another machine then came on course and large rolls of kikuyu turf were fed into the machine and chopped up and then the machine planted small pieces of kikuyu in lines in the track. The kikuyu is now becoming fairly well established and is gradually covering the track. It is hoped that full coverage will be achieved in time for us to return to racing on April 21
