23.01.2022 Know someone who wants to join our team?

22.01.2022 Our Preschool Two children are rather excited about their Reading Eggs subscriptions! The fun activities promote making choices, creativity and solving problems. Computer use also encourages the children to use their fine motor skills through keyboard and mouse movements. Reading Eggs also links directly to the Early Years Learning Framework:... 1.2 Children develop their emerging, autonomy, interdependence, resilience and sense of agency. 2.4 Children develop a sense of belonging to groups & communities and an understanding of the reciprocal rights and responsibilities necessary for active participation. 3.1 Children become strong in their social and emotional wellbeing. 4.3 Children transfer and adapt what they have learnt from one context to another. 5.5 Children use information and communication technologies to access information, investigate ideas and represent their thinking. 20.01.2022 The wonderful foyer display on art in Indigenous culture was prepared by trainee, Miss Britney, as part of her Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care. Ancient Indigenous philosophy is still visible in rock art dated more than 20 000 years old. With no written language, important cultural stories of the land, beliefs, and events were shared using symbols or icons. Our families are encouraged to use the stones to create their own stories, and share them with a p...icture. We believe Seymour Street's story can be told with three stones: Meeting Place, Shelter, and Child.

19.01.2022 Can you guess which activity these Early Years Learning Framework links describe? 1.1 Children feel safe, secure and supported. 2.4 Children become socially responsible and show respect for the environment. 3.1 Children become strong in their social and emotional wellbeing.... 4.3 Children transfer and adapt what they learned from one context to another. It is reading! All of our rooms have a book nook. A library area is important to the overall program for developing literacy skills in children. Children can be encouraged with their language and literacy development by: - asking questions while looking at pictures together, - asking a child to predict what will happen next in the story - encouraging a child to repeat words, rhymes and phrases that have been memorized.

18.01.2022 The Christmas spirit has well and truly arrived at Seymour Street. Rooms are decorated - as are the staff members and children. Even our resident Grinch has been spotted in a Christmas shirt.... What is your favourite Christmas tradition?

16.01.2022 More super heroes, princesses, a butterfly, Minions, a yellow Wiggle... there were many bookish visitors to the Centre today! #bookweek2020

15.01.2022 Hello families, We currently have no phone service. Please email us at [email protected] or message via this page. Thank you

14.01.2022 An adorable Pooh Bear and a shimmery Rainbow Fish were just two of the colourful book characters spotted in the Centre today. Also spotted were Mary Poppins, a handful of (Where's) Wally, an assortment of super heroes, and a stray unicorn! We can't wait to see who turns up tomorrow!! #bookweek2020

12.01.2022 What a fantastic Book Week we have had! The costumes continued today and included Captain America, a ladybug, Minnie Mouse, a scarecrow, Cinderella, Wiggles, and Pippi Longstocking! It's never too soon to start planning for Book Week 2021!!

11.01.2022 Books are always a great gift idea! Grab the latest Book Club catalogue from outside your child's room, or head to www.scholastic.com.au/book-club/book-club-parents/ For every Book Club order placed, Scholastic gives back 20% of the order spend to our Centre to purchase educational resources via its Scholastic Rewards program.

09.01.2022 Wanted: Worms!! Many of the children met Quoth the Magpie this week. The fledgling bird was found abandoned in the park across from the Centre by our admin officer Miss Tara, who will care for him until he is old enough to rejoin his flock.... Quoth needs feeding about every two hours, so he has spent some time in the office (where he tried to steal Miss Tara's pen!), and has visited all of the rooms. He was especially popular in Preschool Two, where the children dug for worms in their compost farm to feed to the youngster. To grow big and strong Quoth needs a lot more worms. He would be Very Happy if anyone wanted to dig for treats and bring them into the office.

How many can you complete?... For more ideas visit www.orange.nsw.gov.au/events/? fbclid=IwAR3D5hptv8pG_XVFKulAenyVJN1LWS81cKpu8iLg7ndAvLvnjsDlJvVFkps

07.01.2022 Halloween was low-key this year after our Book Week efforts. Preschool Two joined in with an assortment of (more merry than) scary characters, while our Nursery Two skeleton seemed more interested in his crackers than Miss Tara's Día de Muertos ensemble! May your weekend bring more treats than tricks!

06.01.2022 Let your minds go wild next week for Book Week 2020! Each day we encourage our children to dress up - our Educators will!

06.01.2022 Can you spot the difference?!? Book Week, Day Four was full of surprises - characters from Paw Patrol, Super Mario, Mini Mouse, Cruella De Ville. What an outstanding effort! #BookWeek2020

06.01.2022 There's no denying 2020 was... challenging! So how can we start this new year happier? This calendar has ideas to help focus on small steps to try to boost happiness - for ourselves and others around us - to spread kindness and hopefully inspire others to do the same. www.actionforhappiness.org/january

05.01.2022 Book Week, Day Three: Princess Jasmine, the Green Sheep, Fireman Sam, Blinky Bill, Emma Wiggle, a Gumnut Baby, and even a dalmatian were spotted in the Centre. Thank you for all the effort from our families - it is a delight to see the costumes each day. #BookWeek2020

03.01.2022 How does your garden grow? The Preschool 1 garden enjoyed today's rain, which will help their new garden grow. If you asked children, they would say gardening was FUN. But our educators will tell you it is not only fun, it can also meet all five outcomes of the Early Years Learning Framework.... Outcome 1: Children have a strong sense of identity. They: develop autonomy and inter-dependence by planting and growing their own seed. learn to interact with others and their environment with care. Outcome 2: Children are connected with and contribute to their world. They: become socially responsible and show respect for the environment by caring for their own plant. Outcome 3: Children have a strong sense of wellbeing. They: strengthen their social and emotional wellbeing through a shared group experience. become aware of fairness through sharing the tools, soil, and seedlings. Outcome 4: Children are confident and involved learners. They: develop skills such as curiosity and co-operation. transfer what they have learned in discussions and stories, to grow their own seed. Outcome 5: Children are effective communicators. They: can discuss what they can see, hear, touch and smell.

03.01.2022 World Teachers Day is on Friday 30 October in Australia. The challenges of 2020 have reinforced the significant role teachers play in the lives of children, their families and communities. #WTD2020

02.01.2022 Our two preschool rooms ventured across the road to Anzac Park, where they held their own NAIDOC Week march. They made their own signs, so all who saw them would know why they were marching.

01.01.2022 It is always exciting when new resources arrive at the Centre. Usually the new additions are directly for the children, but this one is for all of our educators and ancillary staff. We think it will be a great asset as the Centre works on its Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan in 2021.
