14.01.2022 The Board of the Seymour VRI Bowling Club are delighted to announce the appointment of our new club coach - Darren McDonald. Darren was born in Melbourne but raised in Seymour, the eldest son of Ken and Dorothy McDonald both deceased and has a younger sister Anne. He attended Seymour Primary and Seymour High Schools and then later the Victorian College of the Arts. ... He is probably known more for his appearance in the TV series "I Can Jump Puddles" as a youth. Darren joined the Army at 17 with postings in Adelaide, Takapuna, Sydney, Wagga Wagga, and Brisbane. As a youth he played for the St Mary‘s Football Club with great success and the Seymour Football Club Under 18's before joining the army where he had a very successful football career, Captaining the Australian Defence Force team for seven years and also playing senior football in Wagga Wagga, winning three best and fairest one runner-up and a league medal in 1991. Post miltary he owned several business in the Bendigo area before moving to Melbourne 8 years ago where he started bowling with the Cheltenham Bowling Club with great success eventually playing Division 1. He was then recruited to the Clayton Bowling Club where he played a number of Premier League games with New Zealand great Ali Forsyth in 2019 and also in the second side(Division 1) as well as the Tuesday Night Premier League and Mid Week Division I. He was selected in the RSL State Side in 2019 and 2020 and is currently a state selector and chairman of the match committee for the RSL in Victoria. Darren is a qualified coach Umpire and Greens Inspector. He said that his love for the game and his passion has truly been beneficial to him in later life. There were several reasons why he is returning home and has chosen to join Seymour VRI. The first has mainly been since the recent passing of his mother, Dorothy and I have had a desire to return back to his roots. The second is that the Seymour VRI Bowling Club holds sentimental value to him as his father and grandfather both played at Seymour, and also like my second dad - Stewie Doyle also played there, so he saw that it wasn't a really a hard choice. He is about to undergo training to become a Department of Veteran Affairs Advocate, which is also a passion of his to return a service to Veterans of the defence force. He is divorced and has 4 children (all adults) as well as 4 grandchildren. He also has a love for motorbikes, Harley Davidson’s in particular, and he is a life member of the Veterans Motorcycle Club of Australia. Darren is looking forward to making his return to Seymour and the Seymour VRI Bowling Club a great success - he is looking forward to seeing you all on the greens.

14.01.2022 Congratulations to Jim Furletti and Bob Richards on receiving their Super Veteran Badges (presented on achieving 80 years of age) from Club President Wayne Noonan this evening.

14.01.2022 JUST IN: Unfortunately Helen and Darren both fell short in their respectively CBD State Singles Finals at Kilmore. Helen lost to Sharon Hall 24-25 whilst Darren lost to Brad Bonser 23-25. A great effort by both, I am sure all at the club are proud if their efforts.

06.01.2022 Good afternoon all, Hopefully this email finds you well. Please find below our latest information around the wearing of Face Masks.... This information has only come to light this afternoon so is Hot Off The Press. We recommend the use of a facemask in a safe and responsible manner. The DHHS guidelines state the following: All workers, volunteers and participants must wear a face mask at all times with the two exceptions noted below. A face mask is not required while undertaking strenuous exercise or playing community sport. You do have to carry a face mask with you so you can wear it before or after exercising, unless you have a lawful exception. (https://www.coronavirus.vic.gov.au//Industry-Restart-Guide) Wearing a face covering protects you and your community by providing an additional physical barrier to coronavirus (COVID-19). Where a person has a lawful excuse not to wear a mask, clubs take no responsibility in any fine or sanction applied under law to the individual (e.g. by the Police). Read here that you can remove your mask to bowl but should have it on while not in control of the mat. Hopefully some common sense starting to emerge. Regards & stay safe out there.
