25.01.2022 On the 11th Hour of the 11th Day of the 11th Month, We will remember them.

25.01.2022 SEZ UPDATE The delegates met last night to discuss the effects of COVID on our events this year. The following was agreed: SEZ Ball Trap team will be selected from the top 5 shooters that competed at Mornington earlier this year, should the State Ball Trap event go ahead.... SEZ DTL Team Series/Carnival - the delegates will meet at the start of September to discuss again. Due to uncertainty of COVID in the current space, it was agreed this would be the best way forward. All zone school students shoots have been cancelled by the VCTA (this was decided some time ago by VCTA, just a courtesy reminder). We will provide another update once we have met in early September.

24.01.2022 Congratulations to Daniel Cleary - the winner of the 2021 State Skeet Handicap.

23.01.2022 Good news for our Metro Clubs Thanks to Jeff at VCTA - Victorian Clay Target Association for his hard work in getting each set of new information to our clubs as soon as he receives it!

22.01.2022 Good news for our Metro clubs

18.01.2022 It is with huge sigh of relief that we now see the benefit of time in 'lock down' and the possibility of recommencing our sport. The relaxation of some element...s of the restrictions means that there is a chance that we can start again on a very limited basis. The State Executive of VCTA will be meeting this coming Friday night (May 15) to discuss the outcomes of today's announcement. VCTA will be inquiring as to how the new restrictions impact clay target shooting and whether there are any insurance or other issues to be considered. At this stage, VCTA advise for members to be patient until after the meeting Friday night. While there are some indications that practice will be possible - it will be under very restricted circumstances. No competitions are permitted at this time. Thank you for your patience at this time and we will advise you as soon as practicable of any changes.

17.01.2022 Congratulations to David O'Sullivan who was inducted in to the VCTA Hall of Fame yesterday.

15.01.2022 What the September 6 Roadmap announcements mean for our sport! At this point of time there is no change to the current conditions for clay target shooting in Vi...ctoria. For clubs in the Melbourne Zone - you must still remain closed and, except under exceptional circumstances such as training for high performance athletes which you must get permission for, no club activities are permitted at all. For clubs in Regional Victoria - you are still permitted to practice under strict guidelines ..... 10 people on the facility, only 2 people on a trap at a time, all other social distancing and hygiene requirements are essential. Masks are mandatory! It is unlikely that there will be any change to these arrangements until the end of September. Rest assured that as soon as further news is released it will be notified immediately on Facebook and by email to all clubs. Stay safe and stay well!! See more

14.01.2022 Well done VCTA, let’s hope the Minister passes our letter on to Premier Daniel Andrews! Whilst we appreciate we have strict social distancing restrictions in place for a reason here in Victoria, let’s hope any easing of restrictions will mean non contact sports like clay target shooting will get the green light!

14.01.2022 Update from the ACTA regarding COVID 19 Dear ACTA Clubs, Zones and States, This is the most recent information from Shooting Australia RE: Government advice reg...arding recommencement of Sport and Recreation Activities. (see below). It has been noted that, according to the AIS / Australian Sports Commission document, (link below), range shooting is not approved for Shooting Sports under Level A reactivation criteria. Our group met this morning to discuss this matter, given that Archery has range approval under Level A. Shooting Australia CEO Luke Van Kempen, believes that the AIS has misunderstood our situation and will have this advice reviewed. We are also attempting to extend our capacity by requesting more than 10 persons be allowed to attend shooting grounds IF a specified number of shooters per layout multiplied by the number of layouts available is approved by the Authorities and exceeds this number. (This is in reaction to some States still specifying up to 10 as the maximum number of people allowed to congregate in a mass gathering in the same place, more than 10 being considered unlawful). Additionally, there is some uncertainty as to where each state sits regarding these Levels. Victoria still appears to be at pre-Level- A while SA, Queensland, WA and NT might already be at Level B. Again, nothing has been clearly articulated in this regard at this point in time. Please note that, in the National Principals for Resumption of Sport PDF, (link also below) it states: 4. All decisions about resumption of sport and recreation activities must take place with careful reference to these National Principles following close consultation with Federal, State/Territory and/or Local Public Health Authorities, as relevant. and 11. If sporting organisations are seeking specific exemptions in order to recommence activity, particularly with regard to competitions, they are required to engage with, and where necessary seek approvals from, the respective State/Territory and/or Local Public Health Authorities regarding additional measures to reduce the risk of COVID-19 spread. It is these requirements that we are currently pursuing, both with Shooting Australia, as well as independently by preparing an ACTA COVID-19 Compliance and Restrictions for Clubs document which we will be distributing to all clubs following the consultation with and approval from the relevant Authorities. This is an important step as it allows us to lock in the controls that the Government Authorities agree are satisfactory in order for us to proceed. It will include a position statement, regulations for individuals, clubs and delivery rules, all of which need to be strictly complied with. As relaxation or bolstering of restrictions occurs, we will need to advise accordingly. Please continue to err on the side of caution as we move towards any easing of restrictions. In brief, make sure your club remains strictly compliant with all requirements. We have been advised by our insurer that failure to do so or performing any unauthorised activities will automatically void insurance covers. As always, thanks for your ongoing kind assistance. I hope to have the ACTA COVID-19 Compliance and Restrictions for Clubs document to you by week’s end if we can get Authority approvals in place by then. Paul Gilbert Chief Executive Officer Australian Clay Target Association Inc

13.01.2022 Dear ACTA Clubs, Zones and Members Please be advised that, at this afternoon’s ACTA Executive Committee Meeting, a motion was unanimously passed to Cancel all ...ACTA National Events for 2020. This decision was made, primarily based on: the need to protect all members health and safety, (especially given the current escalating situation in Victoria and possibly beyond), Inability to predict the likely revisions to any State or Territory Health Department restrictions that may next occur, the deadlines approaching to timeframes in which administrative tasks need to be performed in order to adequately deliver the events, and the cost implications of attempting to stage events that will be severely under-subscribed. We will provide a more detailed report in the August Clay Target e-News which will go out to our members next week. Kind regards, Paul

09.01.2022 Regional Victoria can begin competition again! So ..... with a strong mind towards social distancing, hygiene and the safety and well-being of all in attendance..., competition can recommence in regional Victoria. Numbers on a trap must be limited so that 1.5m distance is maintained with only the minimum admin allowed eg a referee and a scorer. This would usually be 5 competitors plus ref & scorer. NO SPECTATORS ARE ALLOWED! Multiple traps can be used at the same time. People waiting for their squad must not congregate and should, preferably, wait in their car - well away from other participants. Canteens may be open. Club-rooms may be open but are subject to the one person per 4 square metre rule. It is essential that all hygiene and cleaning protocols are strictly followed. Metropolitan Melbourne clubs are still under close down restrictions at this stage and may not open except under special permission conditions approved by VCTA. See more

09.01.2022 New executive committee elected The South East Zone held our Annual General Meeting last night. Congratulations to the following SEZ members on their election: President: Stuart Allen... Vice President: Bryce Mccall Secretary: Jane Vella Treasurer: Damien Hutchins We also accepted nominations for two new SEZ coaching coordinators - congratulations to Andrew Fiek (DTL) and David O'Sullivan (Skeet) in your new roles. The new executive look forward to seeing you at our first round of the SEZ teams series at Frankston Australian Clay Target Club on SATURDAY 20th February.

08.01.2022 Olympians Russell and Lauryn Mark, the owners of the clay target coaching, entertainment and services company Go Shooting Pty Ltd, have now finished productio...n of six high definition online instructional videos on behalf of the Australian Clay Target Association. These were filmed at our National Shooting Range at Wagga Wagga in late June. The first video in this series is of particular importance to our Association. It is titled, An Induction to the Range - Welcome to the ACTA, this is an entertaining and informative eighteen minute visual tutorial specifically made for new and prospective ACTA members. It highlights some of the common safety rules and shooting procedures that beginners will be required to abide by when attending an ACTA range. This video will Premiere on the ACTA YouTube Channel on Tuesday July 7th at 7.30 pm (AEST). Anyone who is already subscribed to our channel will be notified and can watch the video live as it debuts. We are encouraging all ACTA clubs and members to provide the online link for this video to any new and potential members to help them understand how our sport operates. It can be viewed online at any time so when a novice initially arrives at the range, they won’t feel overwhelmed by the protocols and sometimes confusing terminologies associated with clay target shooting. The video has been made with the intention of complimenting a practical hands on physical induction on the range, not replacing it, but we believe this will be an important tool to encourage potential members to join and participate in the ACTA disciplines. The remaining five coaching and instructional videos in this first series are also orientated towards newcomers and will be released fortnightly on the ACTA YouTube Channel. We suggest that all ACTA members to subscribe to this channel as the proposed second series will involve more technical topics that we believe will benefit both competitors and coaches. Once subscribed, members will be notified as each video is released. Subscription is completely free of charge. There are no credit card or personal details required, all you need to do is click on the red SUBSCRIBE icon located on the page. The link to watch the first video on our YouTube channel is; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rzX_4XA8IvA We are extremely grateful to Russell and Lauryn for their huge effort in producing these videos and also the assistance of The NSW State Coach, Mr David Coleman and the Wagga Gun Club. Please assist us by sharing this post to as many affiliated ACTA Club, Zone, State and any other shooting related social media pages as possible. Thank you in advance.

08.01.2022 An update from the South East Zone regarding COVID-19 and our future events...

08.01.2022 VALE - Barry Chris Carrol 26/03/1944 - 25/10/2020 We are saddened to hear of the passing of Barry Chris Carrol.... Chris joined the ACTA back in 1972, with his children Rohan and Nerissa joining him around the traps as they grew older. Chris and his wife Glenis ran the Cerberus Gun Club for many years before the grounds closed but even after the club closed the Cerberus club lived on, thanks to Chris and his club mates. Chris has been an active committee member on the South East Zone, holding the secretary position for in excess of 30 years and is a life member of our Zone. A true gentleman of the sport, he will be truly missed. Condolences to Chris’ wife Glenis, children Rohan and Nerissa and families.

08.01.2022 I’m sure most people would have heard the good news from Premier Dan Andrews this morning... Stay tuned for more updates

03.01.2022 As you are all aware, as of midnight Wednesday, the Melbourne Metropolitan area went into Stage 3 lock-down. Previously, this has meant closing of clubs and no... participation. This time the Melbourne Clubs, and this includes Nepean, Mornington, Frankston, Melbourne, Metropolitan and Werribee, will have some ability to shoot. The new regulations mean; No competition practice only it will be necessary to cancel any planned competitions in the immediate future A limit of 10 people at a time on the whole facility (I am unsure if this includes admin staff/coaches I will find this out for you - I am confident that a minimum of staff will be okay)) Only two (2) people on a trap at a time (up to the maximum of 10 people). For example Werribee or Melbourne could have five traps open with two people on each. Members only No canteen, kiosk or clubroom access except for toilets Travel must be limited to local area only (people should only go to their closest club) No sharing equipment. Clubs must ensure that they are following all of the social distancing and hygiene protocols and are registering names and contact details for everyone who attends. Please remember that people from Metropolitan Melbourne cannot travel outside of the lockdown area especially to rural or country clubs that are not under the same restrictions. Country/Rural clubs are still able to hold competitions. These clubs have not had their regulations changed.

02.01.2022 FAREWELL FOR CHRIS - Wednesday 4th November 2pm For anyone wanting to attend Chris Carrol’s funeral virtually the link is below. Please share between your friends and family, everyone is welcome to join the live-stream.

02.01.2022 ACTA UPDATE A survey was sent out to all Trap Nationals nominees from March 2020 and all 2019 Skeet Nationals participants to ascertain their ability to attend a National Carnival if it was to occur on 5-11 October (DTL) and 1-7 November (Skeet). If there are any other shooters in your Club that were not in the above survey group but would be a DEFINITE yes for either of these Nationals, the ACTA need to be advised urgently. ... Please have these people send an email to [email protected] before 30/6/20 so they can be included in the survey results.
