25.01.2022 A massive congratulations to our Newest Commercial Pilot, Adam Blyth! Well done from all of us at SFC!

25.01.2022 This one is going to be huge. Our ever-busy club captain Tim has organised our next flyaway, and if you want to expand your horizons beyond COVID-induced claustrophobia then this one's for you! You'll soon be exploring the beautiful country regions of NSW through a trip to the famous Mulga Pub at Byrock. It has a dirt strip next to the pub on the station, and is approximately 2 hours flight time from Bankstown in an Archer. Planned for Saturday 28th November, members will fly... out during the day on Saturday, land on the dirt strip, and stay over night. There will be a big dinner on the Saturday night, some drinks, and a bonfire under the magic stars of country Australia. Registration essential. Visit https://www.sfcaero.com.au/club/events for more info and to register!

25.01.2022 We have updated our COVID-19 guidance to reflect the easing of restrictions in Victoria and the worsening situation in South Australia. If you have travelled to SA in the last 14 days, or plan to do so in the future, please read the updated information on our dedicated COVID-19 response page.

24.01.2022 Congratulations to Daniel Judex, who recently achieved his Private Pilots Licence, just in time for Christmas! What a treat! Well done Daniel!

23.01.2022 SFC Instructor Profile: Introducing Leanne Ng. Fluent in English, Cantonese & Mandarin, and with a Bachelor of Aviation (Flying) degree, Leanne specialises in teaching Multi-Engine Instrument Flying and helps with our Flight Instructor Rating classes. She’s passionate about getting more women to apply for professional flying training courses, and hopes she is an inspiration for where a career as a pilot can take you!

23.01.2022 Our next AVI50219 Diploma of Aviation (Commercial Pilot Licence - Aeroplane) course starts on 8th February 2021, and applications will be closing very soon, on 7th December 2020. Interested students should urgently contact course advisor Tarquin Watt ([email protected] or 0456 500 460) without delay.

22.01.2022 As we welcome 2021, we would like to recognise the students who joined us for our CPL Courses in February, July and October of 2020! We’re glad to have you all as part of our SFC Family, and from all of us at SFC, we wish you all the best of luck with your aviation endeavours!

21.01.2022 Tom McCowan is currently working through his Commercial Pilot Licence hour building navigation flights with SFC, and what better way to enjoy the privileges of licences gained along the way by taking your dad for a trip away! Here’s a brief report from Tom himself: My old man and I had a trip to Byron planned, so I thought what better way to get there than coastal at 1000ft. Transiting the Williamtown VFR lane at 500ft is breathtaking, the beautiful sand of Stockton, the cle...ar water around Broughton Island and the frolicking whales below. A quick scenic flight from Ballina to the Byron lighthouse is also a bucket list item checked off! Getting into Ballina Airport required a fair bit of radio use - I had an ETA of 32 mins past, QantasLink had an ETA of 34, Pelican Air was 36 mins past and there were other light aircraft and helicopters in the area too. A great learning experience. See more

21.01.2022 NEWSFLASH: SFC is Front Page News on The Guardian! It's not every day that a small not-for-profit flying club gets to share the front page of a national newspaper, so we're rather proud of this! You'll find a report on Sunday's Sydney Airport fly-in, photos, videos and a link to The Guardian article here: http://bit.ly/SFC-Air-Force-YSSY-2020... Our thanks to all involved in helping out on the day, and especially club captain Tim Lindley for organising the event.

21.01.2022 Due to the ongoing outbreak of community transmission of COVID-19 on the Northern Beaches, the below updated guidance should be adhered to by staff, members and guests effective immediately: Do not visit the clubhouse for any reason if you live in, or have visited in the last 14 days, any NSW COVID-19 case location. If you have live in or have visited the Northern Beaches, or any other case location in the last 14 days, please call us to cancel any flight bookings you have sc...heduled. This applies to private hire, TAFE training and private training. No cancellation fees will apply. We strongly recommend the wearing of masks at the clubhouse and adherence to all of our sanitising and PPE protocols. If you are feeling sick, even mildly, please do not come in to the clubhouse. Instead, get tested, isolate, and let us know if the result is positive This applies to all staff, students, members and guests. We thank your for adhering to these guidelines at this challenging time for NSW.

20.01.2022 A huge congratulations to Luke Webber, who is Australia’s newest Commercial Pilot! What a legend! Fly safe mate!

19.01.2022 SFC Instructor Profile: Introducing Blair Dutney. At SFC we are proud of the varied background of our instructors; when Blair is not teaching multi-engine IFR students, he is winging his way around Australia flying a BE20 Kingair for a charter company. What an office window! It’s the skills gained outside of instructing which mean Blair can add additional value to your flight training. Who better to learn from than someone who flies multi-engine charter for a living? Are you interested to fly for fun, or kick-start your aviation career? Contact us now.

19.01.2022 A huge congratulations to our newest Recreational Pilots Licence holder, Connor O’Sullivan! We are all so proud of you, Connor, amazing work, fly safe! #pilotlife #ysbk #rpl

18.01.2022 Congratulations to Roshan Shiwakoti and Peter Augoustis who both First Solo’d yesterday! Look at those First Solo smiles!

17.01.2022 We have had many reports from the clubhouse from distressed pilots, of sightings of a Nespresso Ambassador intently promoting and luring them towards the new clubhouse coffee machine. If you spot him around the clubhouse, don’t be alarmed! Word has it that his favourite flavour is Ristretto, or Decaffeinato, depending on the day of the week! Apparently, if you leave him a coffee a day, it makes him go away! (We hope this is the case anyway )... Have you used our new coffee machine? What’s your favourite coffee pod flavour? @nespresso.au

15.01.2022 A massive congratulations to Jonathan Heron, who is now a Recreational Pilot! Great job Jonny! Fly safe!

14.01.2022 For a lot of the pilots involved, including myself, it was a childhood dream to land in a big international airport like that - like the airliners, says our Club Captain Tim Lindley, about the Sydney Fly-In we hosted on Sunday! The controllers and management even called our 14 aircraft and 40 members the SFC Air Force! A huge thank you to Tim and @sydneyairport for making this all possible for SFC Members, and making childhood dreams come true! ... Nothing better than that just landed at Sydney feeling! 12.01.2022 Where do you want to go? How about Lord Howe Island... The SFC where do you want to go initiative aims to give pilots and aviation enthusiasts the ability to safely explore the wonderful opportunities of general aviation across Australia. Last weekend the Club Captain and SFC members made the 780km/420nm journey east from Sydney off the coast of New South Wales to the world heritage listed Lord Howe Island.... Lord Howe Island is a unique gem created by volcanic activity to produce crystal clear lagoons with the most southerly coral reefs in the world teaming with fish. All of this set within the backdrop of a small town with boutique hotels to suit everyone from budget travellers through to Hollywood celebrities. The trip is best tackled with a multi-engine aircraft, so is now the time to get that MEA rating? If you already are multi-rated, or want to travel in your own aircraft, contact Club Captain Tim who can help with planning, safety and procedures, or can provide a safety pilot or cost share pilot for your trip.
