17.01.2022 This is our WA COVID-19 update for Sunday, 28 June 2020. ---- - Current cases -... One new active case of COVID-19 has been detected in Western Australia overnight. The State’s total cases is now 609, with five active cases. All five active cases involve returned travellers, and all five remain in hotel quarantine. To date, 595 people have recovered from the virus in WA. To date there have been 174,330 COVID-19 tests performed in WA. Of those tested, 30,698 were from regional WA. Note: an updated breakdown of cumulative COVID-19 tests performed in WA will be released on Monday. ---- - Phase 4 and the updated WA roadmap to easing restrictions - Phase 4 of eased restrictions is now in effect. Phase 4 is another giant step out of COVID-19 restrictions, with Western Australia miles ahead of the rest of the country when it comes to relaxing rules and restrictions. In line with expert health advice, the following changes are now in place: - All existing gathering limits, and the 100/300 rule, have been removed. Gathering limits are now determined by WA’s reduced 2sqm capacity rule; - The 2sqm rule includes staff only at venues that hold more than 500 patrons; - Removal of seated service requirements at food businesses and licensed premises; - Alcohol can be served as part of unseated service arrangements; - No requirement to maintain patron register at food businesses and licensed premises; - All events are permitted except for large scale, multi-stage music festivals; - Unseated performances are permitted at venues such as concert halls, live music venues, bars and pubs; - Gyms can operate without staff present, but regular cleaning must be maintained; - The casino gaming floor has reopened under agreed temporary restrictions; and - Optus Stadium, HBF Park and RAC Arena can operate at 50 per cent temporary capacity. Under Phase 4 the temporary capacity of Optus Stadium is 30,633 for sport events (35,000 for concerts), HBF Park is 10,150 (16,500 for concerts), and RAC Arena is 7,150 (8,250 for concerts). Our phased approach has allowed us to get more Western Australians back to work and into more social and recreational activities, as together we continue to kick-start WA's economy. Western Australia's COVID-19 restrictions will be relaxed even further as WA's roadmap is updated with Phases 5 and 6 to complete the removal of all restrictions. Depending on infection rates locally, Phase 5 is planned to be introduced on Saturday, July 18 and will result in the removal of the 2sqm rule. It is also expected to see the removal of all gathering restrictions, other COVID-related rules introduced by the State Government and the 50 per cent capacity limit for major venues. Phase 6 will include the removal of WA's hard border with the rest of the country and travel restrictions currently in place for remote Aboriginal communities. When an indicative date for Phase 6 is set in the future, it will be contingent on locally acquired infection rates in the Eastern States. To find out more, and to view WA's roadmap, please visit www.wa.gov.au/covid19roadmap ---- - Testing - Anyone in WA will now be assessed for a COVID-19 test if they present with ANY of the following: - a fever of 37.5C or above - a documented history of a fever in the last few days OR - an acute respiratory infection (e.g. shortness of breath, cough, sore throat) If you have these symptoms, please get tested, and help us identify every case of COVID-19 in WA as early as possible. - COVID clinics - Nine COVID clinics are now operational visit https://healthywa.wa.gov.au/Articles/A_E/COVID-clinics to find your local COVID clinic. The clinics now open are at: - Royal Perth Hospital (Ground Floor, Ainslie House, 48 Murray Street) - Fiona Stanley Hospital (Allied Health 2, Gymnasiums, East End, Bedbrook Row) - Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital (C Block, Hospital Avenue) - Armadale Health Service (Ground Floor, 3056 Albany Highway, Mount Nasura) - Rockingham General Hospital (Elanora Drive, Cooloongup) - Midland COVID Clinic: Front of St John of God Midland Hospital (access only via Yelverton Drive) - Joondalup COVID Clinic: Ground floor Joondalup Hospital (Car park P4, Regents Park Road - Enter via outside walkway between Specialist Medical West and Physiotherapy Department) - Bunbury Health Campus (Corner Bussell Highway and Robertson Drive, Bunbury) - Broome Hospital (Robinson Street, Broome) In other regional areas, people should go to a public hospital, health service or remote health clinic. Please call ahead if you are concerned that you have contracted COVID-19. Patients will be assessed and where appropriate tested, provided with appropriate information and referred for further medical treatment if necessary. Those individuals who are tested and well enough, will be asked to self-isolate while they await test results. Anyone who is confirmed to have COVID-19, who does not require hospitalisation will be required to stay in self-isolation as instructed by the public health team. It is also extremely important that people who are unwell and are concerned they have COVID-19 should immediately self-isolate and then seek further medical advice. - Respiratory clinics - Respiratory clinics are now open in Western Australia. Operating out of an existing GP clinic, the clinic will assess people who have mild to moderate symptoms and is part of the Federal Government’s roll out of dedicated respiratory clinics being set up across Australia. More information and locations can be found here: https://www.health.gov.au//coronavirus-covid-19-gp-respira - Additional testing locations - Patients with a GP referral can also be tested at 11 private pathology collection centres across the metropolitan area. Clinipath, Western Diagnostics and Australian Clinical Labs have dedicated these collection centres for COVID-19 testing. People in regional and remote areas can continue to present to more than 100 public hospitals, health services or remote area health clinics for testing. The collection centres are: - Western Diagnostic Pathology - Duncraig, Myaree, Rockingham - Australian Clinical Labs - Booragoon, Mandurah, Ocean Reef, Subiaco - Clinipath - Cloverdale, Fremantle, Joondalup, West Leederville ---- - Closure of the WA border - Western Australia's borders are closed to travel from interstate. An exempt traveller, who will be allowed into our State, must perform one of the following functions: - Health services - Emergency services - Transport, freight and logistics - Specialists skills, not available in WA, for industry or business continuity; - National or State security and governance; and - Courts and judicial services. There are also exemptions for FIFO workers and their families, however strict 14-day quarantine measures will need to be followed, when they first enter the State. Further exemptions will also apply on compassionate grounds. More information and a list of exemptions can be found at www.wa.gov.au/covid19www.wa.gov.au/covid19 If you are aware of someone breaching a requirement to self-isolate - please contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or WA Police on 131 444. ---- While we are taking action to ease restrictions in Western Australia in line with expert health advice, we are also continuing to ensure that our State is ready for any future outbreaks of COVID-19 in Western Australia. The Western Australian health system and our hospitals are very well prepared to manage infectious disease situations and have well established systems and processes in place. The State Government is taking this very seriously and we need to remain prepared for a pandemic. Every action we take and decision we make is to protect Western Australians. It is important that we all continue to remain calm, vigilant and use common sense. The best thing we can do to protect ourselves is quality personal hygiene and exercise physical distancing by avoiding unnecessary personal contact. That includes covering coughs and sneezes, washing hands often with soap or sanitiser, staying home from work or school if unwell, avoiding shaking hands or hugging, and maintaining physical distance from others in public. Please also continue to follow the advice of authorities and doctors - anyone who is instructed to self-isolate must take the order seriously, stay home and not put others at risk. ---- Official information regarding COVID-19 in Western Australia - www.wa.gov.au/covid19 WA Department of Health information www.healthywa.wa.gov.au National Coronavirus Helpline 1800 020 080 WA COVID-19 health and information and advice - 13 COVID (13 26843) Smartraveller information regarding travel advice for Australians - www.smartraveller.gov.au

11.01.2022 NEW FUNDING ALERT!

10.01.2022 Today, as part of outlining our roadmap for the further easing of restrictions in WA, we had planned to announce a tentative date for the removal of WA’s hard b...order. However, with the situation evolving in Victoria based on our health advice, we have decided to put that on hold. WA is already the most economically free and active State in Australia due to our relaxed restrictions, and with the Phase 4 and 5 changes we've just announced, that is set to continue. Our State’s handling and response to COVID-19 has been world-leading and soon, we will be able to enjoy the benefits of that response even more. But it's important to acknowledge that our hard border has been an essential component for how quickly and significantly we've been able to make these changes. The current situation in Victoria is dire. It’s extremely concerning. The spike in cases there is being closely monitored here. This is why a decision on our hard border will only ever be based on expert health advice. If Victoria has taught us anything in the last few days, it’s that the worst thing that could occur right now is the reintroduction of harsh restrictions in our community. It would devastate our local economy - more jobs would be lost, it would hurt small businesses and be very difficult for many of us to handle. Our hard border has been in place unashamedly to protect the health and well-being of Western Australians. It has allowed us to confidently ease restrictions more than any other State and open up our local economy. Throughout this crisis, I have communicated clearly and openly with the public of WA. I can tell you that the tentative date for the removal of the hard border was going to be the 8th of August. But right now, it would be irresponsible of me to earmark that date as our potential opening with the rest of the country. I wish I could give an indicative date today, but if I did, it would be against our health advice and quite frankly, it probably wouldn’t hold. An indicative date will be set in the future, when it’s safe to do so. That date will take into account locally acquired infection rates in the eastern states. To be clear - the WA hard border will only be removed when the WA Chief Health Officer is confident the spread of infection is controlled in the eastern states. Our position is crystal clear on this. I know some businesses in the tourism and aviation industries are hurting I wish this wasn’t the case. I can only urge every Western Australian, if they are in the position to travel and holiday in WA to support local tourism businesses do it. Think of it as your civic duty for your State. I know for some businesses, this is still not enough, but we will work with you and do what we can to help everyone get to the other side. Given the situation over east, I just cannot risk allowing the infection to return to WA and cause havoc. As we have all seen with COVID, it will devastate businesses and life as we know it. I will not risk the health of Western Australians and the potential damage to our economy, which is rebuilding now after the height of the pandemic. WA is moving ahead along our roadmap in a more progressive manner, both economically and socially. The Chief Health Officer is confident Western Australia can continue to move ahead of the national position because of our border controls and success to date. Our phased approach has allowed us to kick-start WA's economy. It has allowed us to progress even further. But we all need to be aware that the virus has not been eradicated, so we all have a personal responsibility to keep the community safe.

09.01.2022 Good news! Applications for the Tourism Survival Grants have been extended until 4pm Monday, July 13 to allow more time for businesses in hardship to complete an application.

09.01.2022 ANNOUNCED TODAY: We have secured additional air services to Albany, Esperance and Carnarvon while also increasing access to discounted community fares in partne...rship with Rex Airlines. This is an important step as we recover from the impacts of COVID-19 on the aviation sector here in WA. Air services are doubling to eight per week on the Albany and Esperance air routes, while the Carnarvon air route will increase from three to five weekly return services. The one-way community fare is priced at $139 for Albany, $138 for Esperance, $158 for Monkey Mia and $199 for Carnarvon and it is available to everyone for travel each way. Conditions around the purchase of community airfares will be relaxed, allowing all remaining seats to be sold at community fare prices within 7 days prior to departure, instead of 24-hours. The ability to purchase the community fare more than 30 days prior to departure remains in place. Today's new agreement extends funding for these arrangements through to the 30th of September. If you've been thinking about heading out on a holiday across our State, this is just another great excuse to wander out yonder.

02.01.2022 We're in Nannup next week discussing social media, so come along if you've got the chance!
