25.01.2022 Great to have a hit with fellow SGA Vics Pete Cuddles Calverley and Graham Sherlock at Growling Frog today. Form was very impressive coming out of quarantine with Cuddles birdieing the first two holes with some long range bombs.

24.01.2022 Great fun today. So good to see everyone again after too long. Thanks to @RACV Healesville Country Club and especially Taylor for having us at their fun and challenging course.

24.01.2022 And with a wonderful year of consistent great golf, let us welcome to the virtual stage...our SGA Vic 2020 Order of Merit Winner...Drew Hallam!!! Drew was vying with Jerry right until the end, but some great performances in the big points events saw Drew nudge ahead to win on 150 points. Jerry Nguyen was second on 148. Equal 3rd on 136 points were Daz Nelson and Cam Thompson. These 4 will be in action as the No.1 seeded group at Victoria. A battle of the golfing titans. Here are some of Drew's action shots from the year. Check out the form. Great year Drew. Well done.

24.01.2022 Our 2020 SGA Vic 4BBB Champion is....Jerry Nguyen. Bravo Sir. A very consistent year, results in a 2 point victory over Aileen Armour with Steve Conley coming in 3rd, a further 6 points back. Here is some of Jerry's action at SGA events. What a star!

24.01.2022 Updates on upcoming SGA Events in light of Vic Covid-19 Lockdown As many of you will understand, it’s been a crazy week for us at SGA Headquarters. The raft of... Covid-19 announcements has led to many changes for our upcoming events, and we have been in contact with courses, accommodation providers and, most importantly, YOU, our valued golfers. First off, we would like to thank you all for your patience as we worked to get everything sorted. The Victorian border restrictions announcement this week came as a massive blow to our Victorian players. Regrettably, (and this truly hurts us to say) the move means that Victorians will not be able to play in The 2020 SGA Championships on the Gold Coast in August. This is, understandably, not ideal for anyone, and will come as a major disappointment to both the golfers, and to all of us at SGA, who will miss seeing the bold Vic contingent at our event. We want all of our Victorian players to understand that we at SGA truly feel your pain right now (many of the SGA Team reside in Vic, so we know first-hand how all this feels). And we will continue to do everything we can to support you all during the next six weeks (or however long this all takes). Thus, as we have promised over the past few months, we have offered FULL REFUNDS to the Victorian golfers scheduled for the Kelly Gang Shootout, the SGA Championships and to those who weren’t able to play the upcoming SGA Tour events in Victoria. We are currently contacting all Victorian golfers affected by these changes. (ALERT: Victorian golfers may want to shield their eyes on this next paragraph, as it may feel like a dagger in the back. Sorry in advance.) For any non-Victorians who were on the wait-list for the SGA Championships, there is good news, as the event is STILL ON. With around 46 newly-available spots, we have now re-opened bookings for the event. So tell your mates, and get over to the registration page to lock-in your spot today (see below) (Ok Victorians, you can open your eyes again. Or whatever. But this next bit may give you some hope.) The adventure-packed SGA Tasman Classic - Queenstown, NZ! (Nov/Dec) is also still on the calendar. The Trans-Tasman Travel bubble is still looking probable, and Jetstar is offering cheap flights to Queenstown, so things (at this point...touch wood!) are looking good for this event. Remember: Events like these are more than just going on a golf trip. They are about getting together with a bunch of friends (both new and old), and enjoying the camaraderie of great golf, top-quality hotels, delicious food and thrilling competition. And we can all use a bit of that right now! Here are the links to our upcoming events. Be sure to share online, or tell your mates! Special shout out to Paddy and Tony and Scott and Jason for wearing the most coordinated outfits for the 4BBB pairs!

23.01.2022 Murph wins by 2! And the first trophy for 2020 has been decided. Congratulations to Anthony Murphy who has won the 2020 SGA Club Championships. Was neck and neck at the top before yesterday's final round. Murphy's 37 was just the tonic to catapult him to 115 points. Bravo to Drew Hallam on 113 and Jerry Nguyen on 110 for rounding out the dais. Official presentation will be held at Victoria GC on Dec 9th. 22.01.2022 It was a windy but fun day for all at St Andrews Beach Golf Course on Sunday. Though the wind made it tricky for some, a pair of SGA Golfers made the best of the conditions, with both Scott Wilmer and Shanil Dissanayake scoring EAGLES on the day. For Scott, it took a lazy 300m drive (down-wind on a par-5) and a 130m pitch shot before draining a 30ft putt for a 3. Meanwhile, Shanil took the more "traditional" eagle approach, holing a 60m approach on a par-4 to earn a glorious... 2 on the card. Well done to both! It was a nailbiter of an event, which came down to the final hole. Daniel Benwell and Colm O'Donovan came to the 18th tee with Colm leading by one stableford point. Colm managed to score just one more point on the 18th, but a two-pointer by Daniel saw him erase the deficit and tie for the lead. Both finished on 38 points, with Daniel winning on countback with a scintilating 21-point back 9. RESULTS: Best Overall Daniel Benwell 38 Best SGA Tour Zahn Holden 37 A Grade Winner Ben Steven 36 c/b 2nd Place Kirk Hayward 36 3rd Place Chris Morgan 33 B Grade Winner Daniel Benwell 38 c/b 2nd Place Colm O'Donovan 38 3rd Place Zahn Holden 37 C Grade Winner Tony Sheffield 36 c/b 2nd Place Bosko Pavlovic 36 3rd Place Scott Wilmer 35 FULL RESULTS HERE: https://www.golfgenius.com//6405558979887397/v2tournaments

19.01.2022 Hi everyone With all the craziness around Covid-19--and the uncertainty regarding state borders opening/closing--the phones at SGA Headquarters have been ringing off the hook, especially regarding the upcoming Major Events like the SGA Championships, etc. "What happens if the borders are closed?" some of you are asking.... "Can I get a refund if we've already paid?" others query. "How can I hit my driver 370 yards over the lake like Bryson DeChambeau did this week??" asked nobody, but it is still a valid question. While we can't answer that last one, we CAN address the first two. We know how stressful it can be at a time like this, so we would like to put your mind at ease (even if it's just a little bit) and let you know that we have worked tirelessly with all of our event partners to guarantee that there are flexible refund policies in place. Essentially, you can BOOK WITH TOTAL CONFIDENCE knowing you can access FULL REFUNDS if required in the case of outside agencies forcing travel cancellation, etc. We also want to reassure you that, even if (for example) golfers from some states aren't able to travel to The Gold Coast for the SGA Championships due to border restrictions, we will do everything in our power to ensure that the event will still go on (albeit with a smaller field, perhaps, etc). As has always been the case at SGA, we treat our golfers like family. We strive to offer Value, Flexibility and Choice, and are dedicated to ensuring you have the best experiences--both on the course and in the customer-service arena. So you can rest assured that "we've got your back" during these crazy times. So if you've already booked, it's all good. You're covered. And if you are considering booking, but have been hesitant, then don't worry, you'll be covered. (And if you're trying to hit it 370 over the lake like Bryson, well...we've got plenty of extra Srixon golf balls for sale! So you'll be covered there, too!) Stay safe...and we will see you soon!

17.01.2022 Golf cart update Golf Australia has been advocating to the Victorian Government in relation to the use of motorised carts for people with a medical certifi...cate. We can advise that golf carts are now exempt under the following conditions: - Golf carts should only be used by a person who has a disability, is over the age of 65, or who can demonstrate that they require one due to having special needs. GA recommends that a medical certificate should be supplied to demonstrate these needs - A one person per cart limit, unless both riders are household members and both meet the criteria as listed above - Clubs/facilities are required to thoroughly clean the carts before and after each use Please note the above information relates to those playing golf in metropolitan Melbourne and Mitchell Shire only.

17.01.2022 SGA NEWS Melb Hotspot Postcodes cannot attend KGS in NSW In two weeks we have the 15th annual Kelly Gang Shootout (KGS) at the superb Rich River Golf Club on... the NSW side of the Murray River. We have a record field with over 50 golfers booked to play, but the lockdown of 12 Melbourne postcodes this week has affected who can come to the event. We have been in touch with Rich River GC to coordinate plans according to the NSW and Vic State Govt requirements. The outcome is that people residing in any of the 12 hotspot postcodes must stay at home and cannot play in the 2020 KGS. The 12 lock-down postcodes are: 3012, 3021, 3031, 3032, 3038, 3042, 3046, 3047, 3051, 3055, 3060 and 3064 We contacted all KGS entrants by email yesterday to let them know that people residing in hotspot postcodes who cannot attend will all receive FULL REFUNDS from SGA. It is a great shame that recent events have meant some folks have been inconvenienced, but the hope is that everyone doing the right thing will help the situation improve as quickly as possible. We are also monitoring the QLD State Govts position as it affects our plans for the The 2020 SGA Championships in August. The next National Cabinet meeting will have a bearing on the direction things take. If case numbers fall in Vic hotspot postcodes, then it may be that QLD adjusts its position to restrict hotspot postcodes only and other Victorians can travel. We will continue to monitor the situation and continue to post here as more information comes to hand. Best regards, Matthew Pitt - Managing Director Mick David - General Manager Social Golf Australia

15.01.2022 What a day. Melbourne really turned on the perfect day for our SGA golfers to take on the majestic Kingston Heath Golf Club. Late spring rains and not much cutting back of the rough meant this beautiful course was playing tough. Anyone breaking 36 points today will have had a grand day out!

14.01.2022 Great to see EAL talking about Metropolitan Golf Club being "one of the hardest golf courses I've played ". For someone who has travelled the globe playing golf, it gives some perspective on how hard it is to score well in the SGA Victoria Tour Championships!

14.01.2022 SUNDAY'S RESULTS - THE DUNES: For those of us who play regularly in Melbourne in winter, you couldn't ask for better conditions than what our 67 intrepid golfers saw on Sunday: Beautiful sunshine, zero wind and an amazing golf course, The Dunes Golf Links. As for the temperature....well....it was a bit chilly. Ok, it was bloody freezing - with icy conditions meaning that carts were not allowed on course (Our sincere apologies for that -- rest assured we will schedule a Zoom c...hat with Mother Nature). Despite the cold weather, a few of our courageous golfers "turned up the heat" with their games. SGA stalwart Peter Calverley was on fire, scoring four birdies en route to a mind-bending 41 stableford points. He pipped Ian Steer (39) and Scott Wilmer (38). Solid efforts! Also of note, SGA's Michael David streaked home with an impressive 23 points on the back nine (though it was a case of "too little, too late", having stumbled out of the gate with a less-than-impressive 13 points on the front). All the results are now available on Golf Genius (see below). And be sure to book in early to all of our upcoming events, as EVERY Vic event is booking out in record time. Finally, be sure to check out our upcoming Major events, the The SGA Championships and the SGA Tasman Classic (Queenstown, New Zealand) - these will book out soon as well, and are set to be a HEAP of fun (and are fully refundable in case of Covid cancellation, by the way) https://www.golfgenius.com/pages/6047879984930913210
