21.01.2022 Unfortunately the time has come to take EOI on Patsy Farleigh Cosette ... A quality medium hunter pony with movement to die for, this pony will be an asset to have in the stables. Unfortunately I no longer live at home and cannot keep them all, according to mum This pony is no fuss, and easy to have around, she also comes with one of the sweetest natures there is. Patsy completed her newcomer year last year, never coming home without a placing at any level of show, and is ready to keep going. Patsy is currently being prepped to compete at the gn qualifier down in grafton and will be available for viewing there. PM me for more details. $POA

09.01.2022 DAY TWO HUNDRED AND-FOURTY-EIGHT PANDEMIC 248.0 To have handled your balance and turning, you will be able to bend your horse without losing the outside of its ...body and you will easily remain centred... There are times when we are watching riders at a CDI for instance, were we see a rider a talented rider who performs a perfect shoulder-in or volte and wondered, How did she get the horse to bend so effortlessly? The rider looked like she was floating with the horse, her chest squarely lined up with the horse’s chest, and her hips lined up with the horse’s hips. It did not look like the inside rein was used to produce a beautiful bend of the neck that continued through the body. By contrast, we see a rider who is having difficulties, whereby the inside leg and or heel alone comes up, are leaning to the inside, or the legs seemingly doing so much that you want to go out and grab the leg to say slow down get it right and all will be good. The horse was overbent, and falling out through the outside shoulder and looking very discontent. This begs the question: What is the difference between the two riders and horse, and what makes a rider and horse look so smooth and effortless in a turn? Compare the two; Did the first rider weight her inside seat bone more to create the bend? The answer is most likely yes. Did the second rider weight her inside seat bone more? Not really by leaning we inadvertently place the inner seat bone a little closer to the centre of the saddle falsely giving the impression that the seat bone is weighted. With rider two, and I have made the same mistake early on many years ago where we feel it is ok due to the Inside seat bone felt like it had more connection with the saddle. The reality check is, In reality, however, by leaning more to the inside with your torso, then this causes more of the rider's weight to fall to the outside, with the outside seat bone being pushed so far out that there is little or no feeling of it on the saddle. The horse, now trying to balance itself under the rider’s over-stressed weight bearing, drifts toward the outside, falling over their shoulder. There was little or in most cases, no bend was not through the horse’s whole body. The horse finds it difficult to bend and come through. A strategy to help this issue is to, be sure that you have mastered balance by having an independent seat. This means that you are able to balance on both seat bones without holding on to the reins or gripping with your thighs and knees. For a balanced seat, it is essential that we activate the deep core muscles which are the ones that are responsible for your balance. The core muscles that are in charge of your balance when standing and sitting must be trained to be able to support and balance you when you are sitting on any horse. Try this with your responsible ground person and or trainer: a) apply the posture exercise of sitting tall and thighs and lower leg relaxed. b) Walk off still sitting tall but with a relaxed lower back allowing your seat to follow the longitudinal movement. c) Simply inside leg down for the bend with the appropriate flexion and bend d) To get the bend around your inside leg it is important thet the horse accurately framed between your seat, legs and hands. e) Once you are comfortable to give your horse some transitions say from medium to a lengthened stride and back again. f) When you feel the coordination try some simple 1-2 strides inside to outside leg yield, ride straight on the circle the repeat this but bring them in1-2 strides. This gives you a feel of where your weighted seat is. g) Repeat the same exercise in trot. Once you have established your independent seat and you feel that you are in balance with your horse, you can start experimenting with weighting one seat bone more when riding on a circle. You may realize now how sensitive the horse is and that you don’t need to do much more than line up your hips with his hips to achieve this. Have a great positive day and don't let the world's problems get you down, keep on keeping on and we have much to do with our riding for the learning never ends, so take care, stay safe, talk soon... There is a strange comfort in knowing that no matter what happens today, the Sun will rise again tomorrow. -- Aaron Lauritsen
