24.01.2022 Last week I was challenged to post a photo that tells a STORY. Straight away I knew that I didn’t want it to be just your typical family photograph with smiling faces. Whilst that indeed tells a personal story, I wanted YOU to be able to interpret it in your own way. So what is the story I see in these pictures you might ask? Well, to me it’s a story of LOVE. Or maybe a story of CONNECTION, or maybe even a story of HOPE. But most importantly, this is the story of FAMILY. Yes... it’s a specific family, but the narrative applies to each and every one of us. 21.01.2022 My first indoor shoot || Before this session I was very nervous! As you know, most of my shoots are located in beautiful outdoor areas filled with greenery! I always veered away from home shoots, as I could never ‘practice’ in that specific location prior to the session. But this session was different. I was in Melbourne with limited time and wanted to squeeze in as many families as I could whilst still ‘holidaying.’ Because of this and the family also having a newborn, an ...indoor shoot worked best for both of our schedules. Last week, I was challenged to post about my style. What makes my work MY work. Honestly I’m not so sure. I’ve slowly learned that replicating another family photo from another photographer is impossible, but drawing inspiration is a sign of growth. Conclusion? Style comes through growth and growth is continuous. So how would I describe my style right now? Happiness, love and connection. Yes I would say I do a lot of cropped/close up images. But I wouldn’t call it ‘my style’. Happiness captured through eyes and smiles. Love and connection captured through hands and touch. To me it is not only important to capture this sense of connection between the subjects in the photos, but also between the photographer (myself) and the subjects. Do my pictures show an all around connection? In reality this isn’t always the case. But it is defineitly a style I see myself striving to perfect. 20.01.2022 Happiness || Love || CONNECTION Have you entered the giveaway!? 6 days left! --------... Last week I was challenged to create photos that show off light and shadow. There was a shoot planned for this past Sunday, and I was convinced I would be able to nail this challenge super quickly. And yet, as I began capturing shot after shot after shot, trying to work with the sun and be super creative with it, I noticed that I wasn't producing what I envisioned. I was getting too caught up in perfecting the brief, rather than focusing on what’s right in front of me. I ended the shoot quite frustrated, thinking to myself, how could I be shooting for a decent amount of time and not get one good shot? One that not only represents this gorgeous girl in front of me but STRONGLY represents light and shadow. But after uploading the photos and scrolling through, I noticed that most of my photos did indeed fulfill the brief. I was able to appreciate the connection between light and shadow and the subject, even if it may not be how I had originally planned. Photography is an emergent process, and this shoot really proved that to me. -------- Every family has a story! What’s yours? xxx Shaina Krinsky
