11.01.2022 COVID-19 pandemic is presenting challenges for everyone, including our migrant and refugee communities. As a specialist provider of culturally competent support service for women children and families of Asian, African and Middle Eastern origin, we would like to ask for your financial support during this crisis. COVID-19 has brought to the surface inequalities that exist amongst us, and that is what we are seeing daily with our clients - migrant and refugee women and children... who are experiencing family violence, and struggling to meet their daily needs. Many of our clients are on temporary visas and have lost their jobs. They also have the added disadvantage of not being able to meet the criteria for any form of support from the government. As a not-for-profit organisation, we would really appreciate your support. Your generosity means we will be able to provide emergency aid and increase our casework capacity to meet the demands being placed on our small organisation. Your donation will assist Shakti Australia to provide the following services to women and children who are subjected to domestic/family violence during this COVID19 pandemic: - Supply emergency relief packages including food and necessities - Provide safe accommodation - Maintain our essential services, i.e. crisis-line call services - Provide case management and safety planning - Make referral and advocate for emergency support - Deliver mental health workshops online Migrant and refugee women and their children are one of the most underserviced group in Australia. They continue to be subjected to a great deal of discrimination. Most of us have never been in a situation like this and Shakti Australia has also not experienced the spike in women seeking help such as during this unprecedented time. We sincerely urge you to lend us your support. Please kindly click on our GiveNow online fundraising page: https://www.givenow.com.au/shakti-emergencyappeal
