25.01.2022 Anything from Designers Guild delights me. This fabric arrived in yesterdays mail so I had to cut it straight away. Very Spring.

25.01.2022 Might be on ABC radio this arvo chatting about my special dining chairs. More fun!

22.01.2022 I found some leftover Marimekko fabric so I made some super fancy face masks for those of us who want to be ostentatious about just about everything. They cost $40 though, so you have to be committed to being a showoff. The last two are the last ones of the modest and unassuming $20 ones in those particular fabrics.

22.01.2022 In defiance of the cold, Ive made this totally unsuitable vintage tablecloth shift dress. Its a size 14 (hip measurement 110cm), loose fitting at the waist because there are no darts this time. Its a beautiful jacquard textured rayon, which probably dates from the Fifties. Striking, and different, front and back. Show some optimism!

22.01.2022 Call me weird, but I couldnt waste a shred of the Robert Moore offcuts (see earlier post from July 9). So here is a collection of blank gift cards which showcase what are still interesting printed bits. Unique Fathers Day cards, hey? And your own Robert Moore artwork.

21.01.2022 More cards, more cushions, and one mask (there are more in stock, but this is special)

20.01.2022 Remember "Keep calm and carry on"? I found this teatowel hidden away and chopped it up to make these much more interesting masks. Just four. You need one, because now is the time again.

20.01.2022 This astonishing set of tapestries had been made into a floor rug, but the owners can't bear to walk on such beautiful work, so I've added tabs for it to be hung on the wall. Much better!

19.01.2022 Im excited to offer THE ONLY CRAYFISH SHIRT IN THE WORLD. How fabulous is this? Its a Japanese tablecloth of a thickish, textured cotton, probably dating from the Fifties. Its a size Medium, which measures 58cm across. Price is $230.

19.01.2022 An odd sort of day has produced an odd sort of cushion collection. What do you think?

19.01.2022 Another custom lampshade completed, and another Canberra Not Hawaiian Shirt off to the Post Office this afternoon. Im having fun dating the Canberra cloth, because the city motto on the coat of arms reads "For the King, the Law, and the People". That puts it earlier than 1952/3, except that Ethos dates from 1961. So the change to "the Queen" was slow. Quaint.

18.01.2022 Lampshades forever. Heres another bespoke one which is a much more modern approach compared to the beige toile that was its former style.

18.01.2022 This is why I keep all the bits. A customer fancied the beautiful Designers Guild moth velvet for her sweet old footstool, but there wasn't enough left, until I suggested piecing it together with a complementary velvet. And now look! Beautiful teardown and rebuild by intern Addy @suddenly.21 Easy bits done by me.

18.01.2022 When Mr Glomesh made these evening bags (late 70s?), I'll bet he didn't imagine his suede fabric lining would turn to sawdust. Another Repair Shop job, and now a bit of gold silk does a much better job.

18.01.2022 I think Im hilarious. Sitting on pineapples is, though, isnt it? Happily, Annick, from the antiques shop around the corner is equally hilarious and she agreed that this treatment on some otherwise serious Edwardian thrones was perfect. We make ourselves laugh a lot. They are for her new shop opening in early August.

17.01.2022 Off to a shack in Falmouth, goes this comfy reclining midcentury armchair. The myrtle timber has been restored by the removal of the tatty old varnish, and the velvet is one of my treasures from New York. A slightly thicker seat cushion makes it a bit easier for the owner to leap out of. If she ever feels the need.

16.01.2022 Two more beautiful embroidery cushions were collected this week. One, a classic botanical tapestry design, the other, a counted needlework/canvaswork, which is less familiar to me, but exquisitely executed in a potager design. The former is mounted on black velvet, and the latter is made with a delicately pale blue velvet.

16.01.2022 Sometimes people bring me their family treasure, trusting that it will be used and admired into the future. This is a collection of linen doilies, all embroidered by the same hand. I pieced them together, applied some wadding and backing fabric (which needed to be orange, I thought) and here we go! A beautiful throw thingy/piece of art. And it is available for sale.

16.01.2022 Happy Wattle Day. But Im sorry, I dont have these skirts in stock at the moment. Such a tease. Edit: actually I have the butterfly and wattle one in a size 14.

15.01.2022 Here's a darling and unusual chair I've done for Annick's Antiques around in Hampden Rd. It's a folding chair with ebonised wood and an ostrich skin textured vinyl back, a solid black canvas seat and a million nails detail. It's fabulous.

15.01.2022 Very limited edition aprons. Well, there are four. My signature "applique"- rough as, but effective, and it will only get better with washing. Cost $80.

14.01.2022 Here are two very striking tapestries which are now heirloom cushions. Inspired by Gustav Klimt, you can tell. And then there are vintage rabbit fur pompoms which you can sew on to your handknitted beanies. Totally hurts my feelings to describe it as "vintage", because it was my own personal fur "lapin" jacket from 1978. The two sets of product are totally unrelated; its been one of those days.

14.01.2022 In stock tomorrow morning, these masks are available... including the darling rabbit ones. I found more fabric CLEANING UP. Imagine that!

14.01.2022 A huge new stack of cushions for the day...

14.01.2022 Two more beautiful embroideries transformed into cushions worth at least a million dollars each.

14.01.2022 A lovely gentleman has produced these isotapestries, which Ive turned into the most beautiful cushions. Isnt he clever?

13.01.2022 In between custom orders, I've whipped up these two NannaChic bags. One is made from a1950s teatowel of great charm and colour, and the other features glorious Australian wildflowers. Both are lined with cherry red chintz.

12.01.2022 Todays mask stock, as yesterdays all sold.

12.01.2022 Lampshades, bespoke Slightly Mad skirts, and a NannaChic bag. And a lot of chatting accomplished. I love my customers.

11.01.2022 Awwww! An older teddy bear. The dog. Unhappy customer. Happy customer. Nuff said.

10.01.2022 Another lampshade, and a special order apron for my old friend Amanda Sutton, who is about to launch a new career as a YouTube cook. Shes fabulous. Ive known her since before she was about to be famous.

09.01.2022 Cool story coming up: Robert Moore is an original Mambo artist who designed the 100% Mambo bull fabric I used in 1991 on a chair for one of my sons. I discovered he is still making great art and I creepily followed him on Instagram. Kindly, he followed me back. Late last year, he sent me a message saying he was clearing out stuff and was making a stack of things for me. Whaaat? And the week before Christmas a parcel arrived with, amongst other treasure, 17 panels of screen printed fabric he had made some time back in his career, and which he thought I might use somehow. So this is what Ive done. The most special set of dining chairs in Australia, the World, even. I hope he approves; I do, and Im so honoured that he would send his work to me to play with.

09.01.2022 Care packages of masks are now being sent to friends and family in Melbourne. Im sorry this is a new reality, but Ive built up more stock in response to many inquiries. They are deemed suitable for the inevitable trip to the supermarket, and they can be washed, ironed and reused. Limited numbers of each design available.

09.01.2022 Some retro fabrics dug out of the secret stash...

08.01.2022 Some blokier masks.

08.01.2022 I needed to not make masks today, so I made cushions instead.

08.01.2022 It's been a productive day, by which I mean a production line kind of day. Intern Adelaide has been a wonderful help with prepping for a bunch of masks for a smart local butcher; who knew that I could find a butcher's shop print? Forty of those, and twenty Christmas themed ones. And then we ran out of the filter fabric. That's tomorrow's job. I also snuck in a fabulous Nanna Chic bag with...a LOBSTER on it!

08.01.2022 Lots more masks made, posted and collected today. Tomorrow I should have stock made from these fabrics.

06.01.2022 Floating around the ether, and forwarded to me, this stylish shot of one of my creations. I loved this little sofa. I handpainted the canvas back piece because my friend had a genuine External Affairs duffle bag and she wouldnt give it to me.

06.01.2022 I get some very cool jobs sometimes. Not saying what this is for yet, but its been a very satisfying collaboration. This comprises machine and hand embroidery, and its pretty striking, if I do say so myself

05.01.2022 My mask design details: They are made from two layers of pure cotton and an inner layer of a synthetic fabric filter which US upholsterers use to make hospital masks, and which is used routinely in upholstery. There is a wire nose piece, and the mask can be washed in hot soapy water, dried and ironed with a hot iron. The elastic can be snipped to fit, and, while I have made them to fit around the head (they can become uncomfortable around the ears for glasses and hearing aid wearers), the elastic can be cut and tied to fit around the ears instead. Ive made several prototypes and this design seems to suit lots of people, including children. Edit: the most important detail; the cost $20.

05.01.2022 Look at this dear little slipper chair I did for Annicks Antiques around the corner in Hampden Rd. Drop in, she has some great gear.

04.01.2022 Life drawing class @ArchaicaSchola and making quite good progress. It's been 40ish years since I last drew stuff at Uni, and even then, never life drawing. Good job, teacher Hamish Lyons Hall.

03.01.2022 I've just finished this sweet fireside footstool for my overtheroad neighbour. Classic Sanderson fabric. And then another exquisite piece of embroidery has become a decorative cushion, which nobody had better sit on, I say!

03.01.2022 This is my interview with Helen Shield this afternoon. https://www.abc.net.au//your-after/your-afternoon/12425840 Zoom to 40.00

03.01.2022 Tadaaa! Heres the finished result of the dove (yes, it is a dove) embroidery. Its in the newly renovated Church of the Holy Spirit in Sandy Bay. I was honoured to be asked to be involved. Edit, theres no purple; its white marble and black, and the seating is charcoal grey with the white dove.

02.01.2022 Its time to fish out those Not Hawaiian Shirts. Oh, you havent got one?

02.01.2022 My earlier intern, Maddy Shum, dropped in to show me her final assessment products for her Year 12 Design subject and I was a bit gobsmacked at her creativity (and a bit threatened!) Just look at these lampshades she has made, using recycled frames, my offcuts, and such clever machine embroidery showcasing technique, textures, pattern and colour... I could not be more proud, and she is allowing me to sell her works of art, so drop in to my shop, or contact me via message to discuss price.

02.01.2022 Ooorrrr, you could make your own... https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=10159830069920884&id=130391560883

02.01.2022 Ive piped my head off today. The fabrics are from Cloth Fabric, and are such beautiful quality. These cushion covers are off to the Hunter Valley.

01.01.2022 I love an interesting selvedge, so it became a featured detail on this old dressing table side mirror, which I covered in a vintage bronze silk. And whyever not?
