12.01.2022 FOUR THIEVES VINEGAR For immunity The bubonic plague wreaked havoc in Europe off and on for about 600 years before peaking in the 1300s. Century after century,... as late as the 1700s, outbreaks claimed up to half the population. The plague had a big influence on the life of William Shakespeare, having claimed the lives of some of his siblings as well as causing his theater to be shut down during several especially nasty outbreaks in London between 1593 and 1608. It is well know that the bubonic plague is a bite based infection. A lesser known fact is that there were many more victims than those bitten by fleas. It turns out that the bubonic plague was often the first step of a progressive series of illnesses. Two other types were pneumonic and septicemic. The resulting pneumonic plague was also very infectious and allowed person-to-person transmittion. This is the period of time responsible for the bizarre images of physicians wearing dark robes, wide brimmed hats, and masks with long beaks. There was actually method to the madness. These beaks held dried herbs, spices and essential oils which the physician breathed. The robe was doused with a similar fragrant concoction. Scientific evidence today is building support for this seemingly outrageous behavior. A Brew was concocted and went by a number of names, one being the well known name of Four Thieves Vinegar, but also known as Marseilles Vinegar. A huge variety of ingredients and uses made up these concoctions. Some made to bathe in, some to rub on the soles of feet and some to take as medicine. Some ingredients toxic to ingest, some make a delicious salad dressing! Some common ingredients you can find in your garden or magical stores across the globe whom of which sell these herbs or even the vinegars already bottled up and labelled take note these ingredients vary and may include, Dried Rosemary lavender flowers Dried sage Chopped garlic cloves Hyssop Rue Mint Apple cider/white wine vinegar add A touch of your desired cooking oil for a better texture/taste such as olive oil. You would steep these ingredients for 7/8 days with occasional shaking to combine ingredients thoroughly. Consult a doctor before using if you have high blood pressure or are pregnant or nursing. Also use caution if you have allergies to any Lamiaceae family plants (Basil, Mint, Rosemary, etc.) You may also concoct a bathing wash or oil rub and add camphor, which you would NOT ingest but use to anoint the souls of your feet, your body OR replace the herbal ingredients with essential oils and use in an oil burner/home diffuser - again you would not ingest these as camphor AND most herbs turned to concentrated essential oils are TOXIC to ingest even in small amounts and can result in convulsions and seizures. Hyssop was also mentioned in the bible for its cleansing effect in connection with plague, leprosy and chest ailments and symbolically in cleansing the soul. To make 7 Holy Hyssop bath wash add Hyssop to boiling hot water, let steep for 20 minutes and add to bath water. Soak for a further 20 minutes. However use the same rule and do not ingest Hyssop oil unless it is a whole fresh/dried herb. You may only use Hyssop oil as a wash NOT to ingest. Also note you can find all of these ingredients in your local supermarket, magickal supply stores OR your gardens!
