25.01.2022 I wonder if he appreciates the view?
25.01.2022 Courtesy of Anna Richards....Her video is excellent! Australians - if youre scared / mad / upset about the Bush Fires in Australia & feel the Government isnt taking enough action ... I lovingly encourage you to watch this live https://www.facebook.com/search/top/ where I share how we can make (hopeful) impactful legislative change. 25.01.2022 Following on from many enquiries: For the foreseeable future we will be carrying on business an usual. We are undertaking a comprehensive set of precautions to keep both our clients and ourselves fit and healthy. If you have any questions or worries please do not hesitate to contact me on 0417 535 446. We wish everyone all the best in these difficult times. Regards, Shane.
23.01.2022 Many congratulations to Duncan on completing his apprenticeship!! Duncan is now a fully qualified Master Farrier. Some before and after pics to demonstrate what 4 years of shoeing horses will do to you!! Just to think.....he used to be such a nice clean cut young man.
22.01.2022 If anyone is looking for a fencer in the South Gippsland area I can highly recommend Marc McKinlay. Did a beautiful job on our tree plantations, turned up when he said he would, cleaned up after himself and stuck to his quote. Fantastic!!!
21.01.2022 Taken just after todays storm. Thought we were about to arrive in Middle Earth.
21.01.2022 If you love them, lock them up!! A quick reminder that we are heading into the danger time of year for Laminitis. In particular ponies or horses who have experienced previous laminitic episodes. Now is a great time to start organising a small yard or paddock to keep them off the high sugar grass. Dont leave it too late!!!
21.01.2022 If you have a horse or pony with a history of laminitis NOW IS THE TIME TO LOCK THEM UP. Tuesday is expected to be warm and sunny. This sort of warm day in early Spring is exactly the type of weather that results in laminitic episodes. Dont let your horse/pony end up like this. LOCK THEM UP NOW!!!!
20.01.2022 Apparently you can get cheap accommodation at the Tooradin Toilet block. Always handy to know!!!
20.01.2022 After a hard day in the wet and cold its good to see the home crew hard at it!!!
20.01.2022 Royal Kerckhaert Horseshoe Factory shoes all ground up, safed off and ready to go for Monday. Rainy Sunday mornings good for something!!
19.01.2022 This particular horse was scrubbing out his back feet quite badly on a coarse sand arena. To fix the issue we used an Royal Kerckhaert Horseshoe Factory Grand Prix shoe and set the toe at a 45 degree angle. This will help protect the hoof from further wear and at the same time facilitate breakover. Finally we drew out the heel to provide maximum heel support. Really lovely work by Duncan.
19.01.2022 We will soon have excellent quality South Gippsland hay available in small squares. Cutting in the next one to two weeks. Price will be $10 in the paddock. For enquiries please contact through my page or on 0417 535446.
19.01.2022 While we wait for some very much needed rain we have had some magnificent sunsets to admire.
18.01.2022 Weve all heard about crop circles but cow circles is a new one. Anyone care to guess what the discussion is about? I like to think they are planning to take over the world!
18.01.2022 The wind is a bit cold out here. If we could just come in for a while...?
17.01.2022 This is one method of fox control. Do not try this at home!
16.01.2022 So excited for the World Jousting Championship this weekend!!!
15.01.2022 Our business is committed to minimising environmental impact. Below is a list of the steps we take. If any of you have any further suggestions It would be really great to hear them. Regards, Shane. 1. We remain committed to spending a minimum of $1 in $20 to planting native vegetation. Providing habitat for wildlife and reducing carbon (amongst many other benefits). 2. Keeping our daily bookings to the same geographical location. This minimises fuel usage. 3.Using keep cups f...or our coffee. This one is a no brainer! 4. Use of steel refillable bottles for our drinking water. We recommend these https://earthbottles.com.au/collections/bottles Anything that can survive 2 years in a farrier van is tough!! 5. Recycling or re-using all of our used shoes, rasps and tools. 6. Our workshop water use is provided by rain water. 7. In the near future our workshop will be solar powered. 8. Refusing to purchase any farrier products that are wrapped in single use plastics. 9. Lastly, banging on endlessly to captive horse owners about the Climate Crisis and the steps we can take to get our politicians motivated (poor Duncan who has to live through that 10 times a day). If you read this far a great big THANK-YOU:) See more
12.01.2022 With the recent fires in our area, I would like to send out a massive thank-you to all the men and women from the CFA (Country Fire Authority). It is a humbling experience to think that they give up their valuable time and risk their lives to serve and protect rural communities.
12.01.2022 Productive weekend with around 500 plants put in. It roughly works out that for every job we do a native plant goes in. A great big thank-you from the planet to all of our wonderful clients!!!!
11.01.2022 Fantastic Weekends work!!! Nearly 2,000 Native Trees, Shrubs and Grasses in. Many, many thanks to all friends and family members for their contributions.
10.01.2022 What do farriers do in their spare time? They hang out with talented people and write rock songs!!!!
09.01.2022 A great big Thank-you to all the hard working officers from Victoria Police. Standing out in freezing weather just doing their job, keeping us safe.. We pass through the Lang Lang Check-point nearly daily and they are always polite and thorough. Great work!!
09.01.2022 In todays episode......we turned this into that which was great.....BUT THEN....while at the Yarra Glen and Lilydale Hunt Club we found PUPPIES which was even better!!! A good day!!!
08.01.2022 If you have a horse or pony with a history of laminitis NOW is the time to start planning for Spring. A small yard or taped off area is sufficient but it is essential once the weather turns warmer to KEEP THEM OFF THE GRASS. Nobody wants to be dealing with this, least of all your equine buddy!!!
07.01.2022 We often get asked if there is any treatment that works for greasy heel. In 25 years i have seen many options from the scientific to outright weird (tomato dust). None of them have worked. At a job today a client showed us this product. She has two horses who suffered from greasy heel and swears that this actually works. Im not recommending it, just passing along the information. Although to be fair the greasy heel on her horses has disappeared. Stay warm and safe!!
07.01.2022 Since Duncan started his apprenticeship 4 years ago: Kilometres travelled: 250,000 (no fines). Horses shod or trimmed: approximately 12,000 (48,000 feet!!!). Days lost due to injuries: none.... Incoherent mumblings at the end of long days: endless. We are rightly proud of our record. However, it only happens because of our wonderful clients. So rest assured we will continue providing the very best service that we are able for as long as we are able.
06.01.2022 Hello to all. With record breaking heat waves, catastrophic bush fires and drought affecting our country I would like to ask the many wonderful people who follow this page to consider sending an email to their local MP asking if a) They agree with the science supporting Climate Change and b) If so, what policies are they formulating to deal with the issue? Local MPs can be found on this link https://www.aph.gov.au/senators_and_members/members Many thanks in advance for those who take the opportunity at such a busy time of year to ask the question. Wishing you all a safe Christmas and a happy and prosperous New Year. Shane, Duncan and family.
05.01.2022 Wait, is that the farrier van i hear? If i quickly duck into these trees they will never find me!!!
04.01.2022 Start planning a day trip like no other to the 2019 World Jousting Championship. Just one hour out of Melbourne at Baw Baws Lardner Park, 1-2 June. More info: https://bit.ly/2SOaXbg

03.01.2022 Working in Toora today. Decided to take a detour to Agnes Falls. Sure was worth the trip!!! For those who dont know Agnes Falls is the longest waterfall in Victoria.
