25.01.2022 Did the Sunshine Coast Regional Council get it wrong? Was/is the revitalisation of Bulcock Street and the Caloundra Central Business District a white elephant? In 2017, Council adopted the Caloundra Centre Master Plan to encourage new investment in the central business district of Caloundra - the Sunshine Coasts City of Beaches. On 15 November 2019 Council released through its Corporate Website, https://www.sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au//Caloundra-CBD-Project, an update on the ...Continue reading

24.01.2022 I have been asked several times over the last few weeks (as part of the election campaign) what do I stand for? My answer is always the same: - 1. Local Issues ... 2. Local Economy 3. Local Business 4. Local Jobs 5. Local Environment 6. Local Concerns What am I passionate about: - The revitalisation of the Caloundra Central Business District! Why am I passionate about the revitalisation of the Caloundra Central Business District? Because the revitalisation of the Caloundra Central Business District will stimulate the local economy and bring prosperity back to Caloundra, the beach precincts and the Aerodrome. If managed correctly, the revitalisation project will allow Caloundra to become a major shopping destination hub, a city with a point of difference and a city that is diverse and vibrant. Caloundra will become the factory outlet capital of the Sunshine Coast. Shops and business houses will be pumping, employment opportunities will rise and the new found prosperity will see major infrastructure improvements and additional transport options made available. 24.01.2022 Dear Friends and supporters of democracy, this morning I viewed a fellow Division 2 Candidate FB page who as part of his election campaign is using the coronavirus pandemic as a tool for smearing other candidates. I have written to the candidate in question advising that i will be taking legal advice if the lies pertaining to myself and another candidate (Brady Sullivan) continue. I also offered the candidate another alternative which was to meet in a public forum (compliant ...Continue reading

24.01.2022 A message to my fellow candidates Division 2 Sunshine Coast Regional Council, Brady Sullivan, Terry Landsberg, Peter Tramacchi and Tim Hamilton Gentlemen, I think its time that we (collectively) demonstrate leadership and formally request the ECQ to push back the Local Government elections for 4 weeks due to this wicked pandemic that is infiltrating every part of our society. I cannot stand by and watch people dying, businesses collapsing and potentially people losing their ...homes. I fully support the measures put in place by the Federal Government and I believe that we cannot sit back and do nothing. This is not a win at all costs for me. My strategy for moving forwards: - 1. We pen emails to the ECQ requesting that the elections be postponed for 4 weeks 2. ECQ facilitate a full postal vote or develop a system for online voting 3. The current Council stay as caretakers for a further month 4. Those Councillors that want to stay on should be rewarding with a new 4 week rolling contract 5. Those Councillors that are no longer standing and have committed elsewhere their position should be respected 6. Those in the community that have already voted, the votes should stand and they should not have to vote again. Your thoughts gentlemen. 23.01.2022 Yesterday afternoon, I and the other Candidates standing for the Sunshine Coast Regional Council electorate of Division 2 met with the Executive of the Caloundra Chamber of Commerce. The meeting was really informative. It was enlightening to listen and learn about the Chamber in general, what and who it represents, its vision for the future and of course the passion that the Executive Officers have for Caloundra. What I took away from yesterdays meeting was that the Chamber i...s a resource, not just for the candidates, but for Council in general and of course the business community. I also liked the fact that the group place a high emphasis on developing and maintaining both strategic and community partnerships. Whichever of the candidate is elected on 28 March, I do hope that they acknowledge the immense value in Council working with the Chamber to fast track some of the recommendations contained in the Caloundra Revitalisation Study. I personally have always viewed the Caloundra Business Community and Council as critical partners in the broader context of revitalising Caloundra. Without both their support, it is unlikely that the goals, strategies and objectives of the study will be realised. Once again I want to express my gratitude to the Executive for the invitation. If you want to learn more about the Caloundra Chamber of Commerce do not hesitate to get in touch with them either via visiting their website https://www.caloundrachamber.com.au/community/caloundra or following them on Facebook Caloundra Chamber of Commerce & Industry. 23.01.2022 New Council Administration Centre for Maroochydore Picking up from Winston Johnstons (Candidate for Division 5) recent Facebook post concerning the Sunshine Coast Regional Councils proposal to construct a 9 storey Council building in the Maroochydore CBD. I am not sure if local business (the back bone of our community) understand that this proposal will take away at least 200 staff from the Caloundra and Nambour CBDs! ... Why when so many shops lay empty in Caloundra are Council proposing to move so many existing employees from both Nambour and Caloundra? Why further damage Nambours and Caloundras already struggling business sector when we should be revitalising the town centres? What will be the effect on the Caloundras CBD? I have spoken at several community forums about what Council needs to do in order to revitilise the Caloundra CBD. A library, regional art gallery and a town square are not going to cut it in isolation! Why will tourist, the major industry for our region, want to come to Caloundra to experience a new library, gallery and town square...it just doesnt make sense! How is a gallery, library and town square going to stimulate employment, improve the local economy and bring retail to our town? We already have these facilities and they havent so far met either employment or retail growth or stimulated our local economy or revitalised the business community or Bulcock Street. Tourists want things to do....e.g. shop, eat, sleep & play! A new Library, Gallery and Town Square will not stimulate the Caloundra CBD, nor will lights/banner across our main street or a makeover to the events centre! What we need is national and international brands trading in Caloundra at discount prices (e.g factory outlets) to give our town a point of difference and perhaps stop tourist and locals from shopping at major shopping centres, keeping the dollars local in Caloundra and boosting the prosperity of the town. 23.01.2022 Continuing on from yesterdays burning question "how can I be sure that Shane Scriggins who is running as a candidate for the Sunshine Coast Regional Council Electorate of Division 2 at the Queensland Local Government Elections on 28 March 2020 will do a good job for our community, if elected"? How can you be sure that I will be the best Candidate to represent you? 22.01.2022 Please support local business

22.01.2022 If there was ever a time to support small business..now is that time. Please shop local, small business is the lifeblood of your community. Small business employs more people on the Sunshine Coast than any other industry. Help your fellow Australians in this testing time. 20.01.2022 I would like to say a big thank you to Bill Hoffman, Journalist Sunshine Coast Daily for his article attached (page 12 Caloundra Weekly, Thursday 23 January 2020), regarding the upcoming Queensland Local Government Elections on 28 March 2020 and in particular the articles reference to the electorate of Division 2 where I am standing as your Divisional Candidate. I have made no secret of my election promises. If you elect me as your Councillor, for Division 2, I will: - 1. Rat...Continue reading

20.01.2022 Following on from my previous post about how I believe that Candidates standing for Council at the upcoming Local Government Elections on 28 March must have the right skill set and experience to meet the demands of the job, I would like to use the analogy below for those that may be challenging my thinking. If you as a resident or a business owner are looking to engage the services of a professional in their field, Im suggesting that you would do so based on their qualificat...ions, skill set, training, experience and technical competencies. For example, if you were building a new home or undertaking major renovations on a period property that you own, does it not stand to reason that for your drainage, gas fitting, wastewater and roofing needs you would call a plumber not a motor mechanic? Conversely, if you had purchased a brand-new motor vehicle and its first service was due, I think its unlikely that you would call a plumber to carryout the service, You may, like me, select a reputable motor mechanic, someone best qualified for that purpose? Why should the role of a Councillor be any different? Its not rocket science for anybody to rationalise that you must have the right skill set, training competencies, technical knowledge and experience to be able to do the job of Councillor correctly. Popularity and political backing doesnt cut it with me as a good reason for electing a candidate to be your representative in Council, not when you are talking about that person having to be the best qualified and most experienced person to represent you and your community at a formal Council meeting, community engagement forum or where ratepayer funds should be spent. More importantly for me, is that we have a Councillor representing our Division that is the best person for the job and the one that is the most appropriately qualified. 20.01.2022 Sunshine Coast Regional Council now is the time to show leadership. I am imploring you to open dialogue with small business owners, they are really doing things tough right now. Staff being retrenched, bills to pay and the worry of having to close their doors, the list goes on. Dialogue needs to be focused on strategy and support.... How will local business be able to meet their Local Government rates when they are next due? Take ownership, this a local issue, affecting local people. If there was ever a time to support small business..now is that time. Authorised by Shane Scriggins, 26 Esplanade Headland, Kings Beach Qld 4551 for Shane Scriggins (Candidate)

17.01.2022 Dear residents of Division 2 Sunshine Coast Regional Council due to the escalation of emergency measures to contain the coronavirus pandemic across Australia, this morning I took the unprecedented step of contacting all candidates standing for Division 2 at the upcoming Sunshine Coast Regional Council election on 28 March 2020. In my email, I sought bi partisan support from the group to make representation to the Minster for Local Government, requesting that the Qld Local Gov...ernment Elections of 2020 be deferred for a period of 4 weeks to allow the Electoral Commission of Queensland to make the necessary arrangements to facilitate a full postal vote for all Queenslanders. As expected, all candidates supported the initiative and the following email was mailed to the Minister for Local Government this afternoon. I want to say a sincere thank you to both Tim Hamilton and Brady Sullivan for the time spent in drafting the email below. To the Minister for Local Government We the undersigned, are the candidates for Sunshine Coast Council Division 2 in the upcoming election. . As a group, we are concerned about the health of our voters, the voting staff and the wider community as a whole. We are all aware we are going through an unprecedented event that has very real impacts on peoples lives and livelihoods. We fully support all the health and safety measures implemented so far by the ECQ and will support further measures being implemented to ensure a safe and healthy community for all. To this end we are making a formal request to move to a full postal ballot for the Sunshine Coast Region or, if other Divisions will not agree, then a full Postal ballot for all of Division 2 (hybrid ballot). We accept this may require an extension to the current voting deadline but we believe it is in the best interest of all concerned. To my fellow candidates, thank you for your support. 16.01.2022 My closing address from last Mondays event hosted by the Caloundra Chamber of Commerce "meet the candidates" at the Breakfree Function Room, Grand Pacific Resort on Monday 2 March 2020. As detailed previously, the evenings agenda was developed by the Chamber and the brief given to candidates was "give the audience a 3-minute overview of your election platform focused on business and the local economy", followed by a 20-25-minute Q&A from the audience. In closing proceedings, ...candidates where then asked to provide the floor with a 2-minute close. As always please share my post with your friends, if you like my vision for Caloundra CBD, the local business and the Beaches Precincts. Closing address... Some months ago, I read a quote that resonated deeply with me. That quote read the standard you walk past, is the standard you accept. This quote resonated with me, because as long-term resident of Caloundra, I like most, have, from time to time complained about something that Council has not done or could have done better. I felt that to accept things for what they are, was simply not acceptable. I felt that if I didnt stand up and call things for what they are then in doing nothing, I was simply accepting it. That doesnt mean to say that there are no good things about Caloundra, there are. Caloundra has many great things that I would never change. I have tonight presented to you my vision and ideas for moving Caloundra forward. Now is the time to hear what your visions and ideas are for Caloundra. Whatever they are, we all need to work collaboratively to make Caloundra a vibrant business and entertainment hub. We also need to acknowledge and understand that I am only one voice, I want to represent many voices. We can only complete this journey by working together, collaboratively. We need to utilise the strengths and skills of the various organisations and independent traders to attract businesses to compliment what we are aiming to build on. Ultimately, the common goal of everyone here is this room, is to have a thriving business community. A community that is pulling in the same direction, not in different directions. We all need to put our agendas, wants and needs to one side and work towards a common goal. We all need to get on with the job of revitalizing Caloundra CBD. We need a thriving Caloundra. It needs to have a heart and it needs to start in the center, Bulcock Street and the CBD for it to filter down and across to our beach business precincts. 16.01.2022 As many of you may be aware, the Sunshine Coast Regional Council has proposed a traffic corridor along Third Avenue and Oval Avenue Caloundra resulting in a 7.5m resumption of land which will greatly impact the Caloundra RSL - Bob McInnes War Memorial Garden. I would ask anyone that values the sacrifices made by Australian Defence Force personnel to attend the Forum at the Memorial Gardens on 20 March 2020 between 10:00am and 12:00pm to hear an update on the battle. I per...sonally could never support such a proposal. There are some things in life that are non negotiable and desecrating the Memorial Garden is one such item. The concept Is disrespectful to the memory of the Australian Service people. As the son of a former veteran and as a father and father in law to serving Australian Defence Force personnel, I find the concept proposed by the Sunshine Coast Regional Council as disrespectful and totally unacceptable. A work around needs to be found. Please show your support. Authorised by Shane Scriggins, 36 Esplanade Headland, Kings Beach Qld 4551 for Shane Scriggins (Candidate).

16.01.2022 Why have I chosen to stand for Council? I am standing for Council because I felt that to accept things as they are was simply not acceptable. I felt that if I didnt stand for up and call for things for what they are then in doing nothing I was simply accepting it. Choosing to stand for Council and daring to share my views, I have found are the actions of brave people. I have learnt this lesson already.... Regardless, Im pushing on because I have a view that any candidate standing for Council must know the local issues and have a vision for our City. I also advocate that candidates must have the right skill set and experience to meet the demands of the job. Imagine building a new home and asking your dentist to do the job, you wouldnt. Why should the role of Councillor be any different? A Councillor must be the best person for the job and the one that has the necessary experience. I cannot see any logic in electing a Councillor to be the Director of a multi million dollar business ($870M budget) if the only relationship you have with the person is because you spent the last 20 years playing football or surfing together... it just doesnt make sense. I have 30 years experience in local government, not just in South East Qld (Brisbane, Caloundra and the Sunshine Coast Regional Council) but North Qld (Townsville) and Victoria (Geelong) as well. I was never a Councillor, but I was for the most in middle management positions. I understand local government and more importantly how it operates. I also have the skills, experience, knowledge and leadership abilities to get the job done. Now is not the time for taking risks. I am imploring everyone to use their vote wisely and vote for experience not a maybe. Check the history of your candidate, research their background and look at their achievements. 13.01.2022 Hi everyone and as promised please find the reverse of my flyer attached for your information. As I wrote previously, I have commenced canvassing (letterbox dropping) a number of homes and apartments across the Division 2 electorate. This flyer provides you with information on who I am, what I stand for and my election commitments to you, if you decide that I am worthy of your vote. ... I reiterate that I know you will all understand that I cannot list every item on the flyer that is causing both you and I concern. I can talk in length about sustainable development, the environment, climate change and the peak oil crisis. These issues however, whilst really important, require not just local government involvement but also the collaboration of other Government agencies (State and Federal). The first task for me as your Councillor if elected is to focus on the local issues, get them reviewed and then fixed where necessary. I promised very early in my election campaign that I would not be knocking on your door trying to convince you to vote for me. I want you to know that I respect your privacy and I also understand (I being from the old school) that your home is your Castle. My flyer provides my contact details should you wish to discuss any of my election commitments or raise any other item that I may not have captured on the flyer, for example, kerb side clean ups, vegetation management, bird sanctuaries on Bribie Island or the mismanagement of our environmental parks etc . 04.01.2022 I find that there is some irony in reading the Facebook posts of many Sunshine Coast Regional Council candidates that have nominated for Council at the upcoming Queensland Local Government Elections on 28 March 2020. 01.01.2022 Dear Candidates Following on from Bill Darbys email (last night) to all candidates standing for Division 2 regarding etiquette concerning corflute signs at election time. I like Bill share my concerns surrounding the vandalism of Division 2 corflute signs.... I have lost more than 50% of my signs since the election was called in late February I acknowledge that everyones signs may be going missing. However, like Bill I can tell you that this level of vandalism isnt normal. The level of vandalism being displayed isnt just kids or disgruntled voters. Its deliberate and coordinated. Knowing you all, I cannot imagine any of you being involved in vandalism, but perhaps some overzealous supporters are. Obviously, its up to you if you want to remind your supporters that removing or damaging another candidates signs is not funny, and is not acceptable behaviour.
