25.01.2022 The next Holden to go out the door was a Group A headed 355 In a nice VK replica. It came in for a leaking rear main seal & freshen up, but it also turned out to have 2 bent exhaust valves. Whilst stripping i noticed it had moisture on the bottom side of the intake port, when reassembling i found the intake bolts were too long preventing enough clamping pressure on intake gaskets. Several cam lobes were worn so i replaced it for a Marshall Custom Cam by John inc lifters with an oil hole on the face. Oil pickup was also cracked & loose where it bolts to the block & would have been sucking air as well as oil. Came up nice when finished & produced 490 ft/lbs @ 5,700 & 549 hp @ 6000.

24.01.2022 2 more ICE kits arrived today. 1 for a customer with a 347 ci Windsor & the Holden being used on a Edelbrock Alloy headed 355 i’d rebuilt recently. The Holden will go on the dyno shortly.

22.01.2022 This whole stay at home thing is making me finish off projects I thought I would never get to this is just a little thank you to Shanes Race Engines for the work he put in for my engine

22.01.2022 Nice little SBC in the showroom at Shane’s race engines

21.01.2022 The last twin turbo sb chev that we did after a broken rod, it’s very similar to another i did in a street car. Gentle cam ramp angles & fairly soft valve springs make it driveable. Should be good for around 1500 hp on methanol, drain the fuel, select another preset tune & drive around on 98 octane. Ends up being a good combo, wild ride in an LJ Torana.

18.01.2022 Another early head 308 going out this week, one of four Holdens in the assembly room. This is a 380 hp - 380 ft/lbs combo that i’ve been doing for years using a small 1/2 lift hyd flat tappet cam. This one is going into a Commodore, the pipes robbing it a little but still made 370 hp by 5,400 rpm & 379.6 ft/lbs at 3,200 rpm. It most likely peaked below that rpm, but that’s as low as i pulled it.

15.01.2022 Recently rebuilt a 429 BB ford for a F series truck. It was just generally worn out. Worn valve tips, broken valve guide in 1 cylinder & broken valve spring in another resulting in no comp. Damaged std rocker tips, corroded timing case cover & inlet manifold. Rebuilt it with std comp, heads etc. changed inlet manifold, set of adjustable roller rockers & better carb, small hyd camshaft. We were chasing torque & ended up with 417 hp all over before 5000 rpm, with 503 ft/lbs @ 3,800 rpm. Still had 422 ft/lbs @ 2,300 rpm. Happy with the results considering the pipes we were using which joined into a single 3 pipe really close to bellhousing.

14.01.2022 Had a call about a gen 5 BB chev in a motorhome, it had given up the ghost & the customer wanted it rebuilt. I went & picked it up after it had been removed & stripped it to find the following Couldn’t repair the problem by sleeving as the bore was too badly damaged, so we decided to bolt his manifold etc on a gen 6 BB chev having the same 1 piece rear main seal as the previous engine but also a roller cam & improved cooling through the heads.

13.01.2022 225 Valiant Slant i’d rebuilt a while ago is going home to be fitted into a S series Valiant. Small cam, pipes, manifold & carb should improve the old girl

07.01.2022 Just finished this 132, now a 138 Grey. Don’t see many, this only being the 3rd i’ve seen in over 30 yrs.

06.01.2022 I’d rebuilt this AMC 360 a while ago & finally got to bolt it up on the dyno, pretty happy with the gains. Bolted in a small hydraulic camshaft, edelbrock inta...ke, stock comp & heads, set of pipes & an out of the box 600 vac holley. STD hp according to manual is 175 @ 4000 rpm, now has 267 (199 kw)@ 4,400 & ft/lbs increased from 285 std @ 2,400 rpm to 367 from 2,700 through to 3,300 rpm It’s in a 1982 Jeep, so should be a good cruiser. 04.01.2022 Glen Smith from Darkeye photography was taking some photos from the property concentrating on the lake, ocean & escarpment. He walked into the shed & kneeled down & took a shot of the hatchback. No prep, not washed, with a wire hanging out for the bonnet latch. Pretty impressive, i thought, he is the guy also responsible for my short business video. If anybody wants a wedding filmed & photographed, landscape or some really good car shots, give him a call. Get a few friends together with their rides & make it cheaper, he comes from Dubbo. Contact Glen Smith of Darkeye Photography on 0450 372601

02.01.2022 This one was a headache, 535 ci BB ford using Super Cobra Jet heads for a jetboat. Couldn’t get valve geometry right using Cleveland rockers which are correct for BB fords. After some research turns out 1.6:1 Pontiac exhaust rockers are needed. Ran in in on dyno & fitted inner valve springs but couldn’t powertest due to having no pipes suitable.
