23.01.2022 For many leaders TGIF means a well needed rest from the week we have just experienced. The chance to get away from everything behind us. But what if we chose to view our weekend as a well needed rest for the week we are about to experience? The opportunity to invest in ourselves for everything ahead of us? Its a small but valuable reframe. Why? Read more in my latest article... https://www.shanemhatton.com/tgif

21.01.2022 Launching in one week Have you ever had a phone call with someone clever and got to the end and wished youd recorded it so you could share it with other people? It happens to me all the time. I realised I know some really clever people and I decided that I wanted to share their cleverness with the rest of the world. So I started calling them and recording our conversations. ... Over the last 12 weeks it has been a live show I host on LinkedIn. But with such a great response I decided to move them forward in a podcast format to make it easy for people to listen, use and share. All of season one will be available to stream from next Wednesday with new episodes ready to go moving forward. The premise of the show is simple. I want to ask great questions of talented people to help us all become more effective leaders. Cant wait for you to hear it and would really value your support when it goes live. (checkout the trailer in the comments) See more

21.01.2022 I know theres a lot of information and content being shared at the moment so I wanted this video to be a brief and intentional reminder of just one simple idea. If you dont have 2mins 30seconds to watch, heres the big idea - In moments like these where we are lowering our points of contact its more important than ever before for leaders to be intentional about raising our standard of care. Please reach out if you need support right now and if theres anything I can ...do to help. #leadership #leadershipcommunication #mentalhealth

20.01.2022 Nice to spot one of my articles in the latest Chief of Staff Magazine. Im usually hesitant to use the word hacks because it typically implies some type of shortcut. There are no shortcuts to excellence. You get sharper with time, practice and investment. But there are a few tips to make the process a little more enjoyable along the way. Heres five.

20.01.2022 Two years ago I wrote an article for RUOK Day on ways people on the other side of the question can speak up if they are not ok. It remains by a LONG way the highest viewed page on my website. What really concerns me is the growth in people visiting that article. It tells me that this is a conversation thats more important than ever before and reminds me that we have a long way to go in removing the fear and stigma around speaking up. ... Its okay not to be okay and its okay to speak up. Always here to hold the space for this conversation when you need and when youre ready. #RUOKDAY

19.01.2022 Episode #1 for season two of the Phone Calls With Clever People Podcast is now available. This week were having a conversation on understanding yourself to invest in your organisations best asset...its people. I met Colonel Tracy Michael speaking together at a conference in Canberra in December 2019. At the time he was serving as the director of public affairs for the Office of the Army Surgeon General and U.S. Army Medical Command.... (If only I could go back to that first meeting and give both of us a heads up to brace for what was about to come.) Tracy now serves as the Chief Executive Officer (Commander) of the Kimbrough Ambulatory Care Center at Fort Meade Maryland and is one of the most humble and authentic leaders you will meet. He has an amazing story but even better is his ability to draw out practical wisdom from it for leaders. Link to the podcast below. Dont forget to subscribe so youre first to get each weeks episode. #leadership #PCWCP #development See more

18.01.2022 I agree that presentation skills are important, but they are also insufficient for effective senior leadership of todays employees. We need to aim higher and think bigger than a competency. Read more in CEOWORLD magazine. https://ceoworld.biz//why-leaders-need-more-than-presenta/

17.01.2022 Asking the right question always trumps the having best answers. Madeleine L'Engle said "the moment we begin to think we have all the answers, we forget all the questions". It's one of my favourite quotes. Here's seven questions I love that you can ask someone on your team right now.... 1. Empathy Question - How is this affecting you? 2. Wellbeing Question - What lights you up? 3. Value Question - What would be most helpful for you right now? 4. Clarity Question - What do you want most right now? 5. Curiosity Question - What else could you try? 6. Strengths Question - What do you have that could help with this? 7. Commitment Question - What will you do right now? What's one of your favourite questions? #questions #leadership #communication

14.01.2022 Tomorrow Im launching season two of my Phone Calls With Clever People Podcast in the new weekly format...But before I do. In season one I had an amazing conversation with Johnny Briggs about reconciliation and the role we play as leaders. I have been determined not to let it be a passing conversation without a commitment to action. So earlier this week, in the spirit of reconciliation, I took some time to write and record an acknowledgement of country to sit at the top... of the podcast. The audio will be available all the usual streaming platforms. But as something extra, I wanted to create an additional visual version. I know Im still learning, but theres something we can all do to play our part in a more just, equitable and reconciled nation. #reconciliation #pcwcp See more

08.01.2022 It would be unreasonable to expect that anyone can go from airline passenger to commercial pilot without the appropriate investment. It is unfortunately an all too common experience for people navigating the journey from team member to people leader. Having spent their career becoming a subject matter or technical expert, finding themselves thrust behind the controls and being told to go lead can be and overwhelming experience. Leadership is complex but it doesnt need to b...e complicated. If youre a HR Leader wanting to invest in your people leaders to help them step up without burning out, Ive been working on a new leadership whitepaper with my latest thinking just for you. I explore three important disciplines broken down into nine easy practices to provide some guidance on this important path. 07.01.2022 Daniel Flynn is known around the world for his work with Thankyou. and what he has done to help those living in extreme poverty. But I dont believe you can sustain something that impacting and successful unless it really is an overflow of the kind of person that you are. You only need to hear him speak for a moment or read a small portion of his writing to get a glimpse of that person. Thank you Daniel for your endorsement of my new book Lead The Room - Communicate a Message That Counts in Moments That Matter. Now available at www.shanemhatton.com/leadtheroombook #LeadTheRoom

05.01.2022 Its great when people take notes. Its better when people take action. I shared three questions with Third Sector we should all be able to answer whenever we speak if we want people to take action. https://thirdsector.com.au/3-questions-to-answer-if-you-wan

05.01.2022 This is a little bit of a latergram but it was such an honour to hear that Lead The Room was named as a finalist in the Australian Business Book Awards recently. Theres a great deal of vulnerability sharing your thoughts and expertise with the world so to have it recognised and hear from people how it has helped is a real highlight for me. Big thanks for all the support and shout out to Lesley at Major Street Publishing for helping make this a reality.
