09.01.2022 Its widely acknowledged that gut health affects our moods through the vagus nerve (carries signals from the digestive system and organs to the brain and vice versa), conversely stress keeps the vague nerve from working properly. Animal studies have shown you create mental anxiety simply by negatively affecting gut health. An interesting study below shows that increasing gut health through probiotics and prebiotics may have a positive affect on mental health. 08.01.2022 I started Jiu Jitsu for a couple of reasons; I wanted a new community in my life, the intricacy of the sport absolutely fascinated me and in my 1st lesson a 60kg girl choked my about 4 times in 5 minutes. If this martial art could teach her to do that, then I'm in. I got everything I expected, but at such a different level its hard to fathom. The friendships I have created in such a short time still baffles me and warms my heart. The sport itself has me completely addicted, e...very day I apply myself i get better, there will always more to learn and ways to do it better. Always a challenge and those challaneges are faced with your brothers and sisters even at the same time you are competing with them in class. Today is a new challenge i was not expecting. COMPETITION, QLD STATES. A one on one battle with 14 other people all looking to win, all hopped up on adrenaline. I'm truly scared to my bones, so nervous I'm shaking after bit writing this. But how often do we get to truly challenge ourselves, to step out of our comfort zones so far and look fear in the face. This is where living truly begins and where growth happens. I'm as ready as I can be. Let's get it! Just wish dad were here to come along. He would love this shit!

05.01.2022 Exercise improves cognitive function and reduces the risk of neurodegenerative diseases. While this is not something that would shock many people that train regularly, it is still a fascinating finding. Participants were put into 4 groups; No exercise... 4 weeks of exercise including on day of testing, 4 weeks of exercise without exercise on day of testing Exercise on the day of testing only The group that exercised for 4 weeks including on the day of testing showed significant enhanced cognitive function and lower perceived stress. Interestingly the group that exercised only on the day of testing showed no increased cognitive function, but increased perceived stress levels. In summary, that first day of training may feel a little stressful, but keep it up for just a few weeks and your cognitive function should increase, you will lower your risk of neurodegenerative diseases including Alzheimer's and help with your stress levels.... 02.01.2022 What a cracker of a day to bring in the lifting of restrictions! A gorgeous beach walk to get my vitamin D and some fasted cardio... and then after my shoulder session at the gym, I found out the sauna is open... woohoo! A post to come about that later... can't wait to pop that back into my routine. Today I am thankful for: 1: Living on the Gold Coast. These mornings have given me a great appreciation for the beauty and the relaxed feel of this place I call home.... 2: Mum; one of, if not the loveliest people in the world! Possibly the most anti-judgemental person I have ever met, if only we could all be a bit better at that, the world would be so much happier and friendlier. 3: BJJ is back!!! I can't wait for the challanege. Getting just that little bit better every day, choking, getting choked. Almost as much, the community and family that comes with it...
