22.01.2022 Some days are bad days. It seems that just about every day I read the news to see the government discount and denigrate the economic and cultural value of mysel...f and my peers in the arts. The Australian government is doubling the cost of Arts degrees because it sees that "just four industries are expected to account for 62% of employment growth in the next five years: healthcare, science and technology, education and construction." The thing is that people who work in every industry are the sum of all they have learnt throughout their lives. I've worked in restaurants, travel and for more than 20 years as an artist. My degree helped me in unexpected ways through every job. Education isn't a straight line from what you learn to a job. My sister studied classical music and has been working for years as an executive in large tech companies. My friend has a degree in biology and is a wonderful ceramic artist. Artists are workers in every industry, learning to connect the unexpected, and solve problems and empathize and innovate are just a few of the hard skills I learnt in the Arts. Learning is the tool, the individual uses it wherever they work. See more

Men of clay, put your shirts back on, throw aside the shackles of cartoonish masculinity, join us in the sisterhood And become a mistress of clay. 12.01.2022 Here is a rare treat. An interview with woodfirer Yuri Wiedenhofer in his beautiful bush studio in the forests of the far South coast of NSW. Yuri has been a lovely friend to me over the years and once bought me a present of two slightly damp hessian sacks full of beautiful red clay harvested from Cutagees Beach for making terra sigilata.

11.01.2022 The word "pelagic" means "relating to the open sea". I was immersed in the pelagic world yesterday ,cutting through the dark blue swell on @pennicottjourneys z...odiac boat. Albatross , gulls and artic terns performing their graceful ballet in the sky around us. The boat took shelter in seal strewn bays under towering columns of the highest cliffs in the South Hemisphere as the thick golden fringe of bullkelp waved it's long, leathery fronds in the breaking waves. It was perfect. #pennicottjourneys #tasmania #pelagic #creativevoyagetasmania #creativevoyage #australianartist #australianceramics #australiantraveller #poterie #pottersofinstagram

11.01.2022 Pots and rocks and leaves. Uncovering the poetry of landscape with Ben Richardson at Ridgeline Pottery. The Creative Voyage tour spent the day at this beautiful studio talking about pots and landscape, eating homemade bread with soup , drinking tea out of handmade cups and squeezing in a tiny bit of Peta's delicious fig and walnut shortbread cake to finish with. A feast for every sense.

08.01.2022 Pinwheel vases and beakers heading to Beaver Galleries in Canberra this week. (I think those velvety salvias are perfectly suited to this shape inspired by the 1930's)
07.01.2022 The Eminence- Fortitude Valley, Brisbane Earlier this year I completed an installation for @mosaicpropertygroup in their beautiful new building in Brisbane. Designed by @oneill_architecture the building incorporates landscaping in all floors and beautiful light wells flooding the interior spaces with natural light. The installation entitled "Leaf Fall" is approximately 80 vessels. Inspired by the summer of 2019 "Leaf Fall" captures the delicate patterns of the dry Australian bush as the eucalyptus leaves fall before the drought breaks. I'm so honoured to have been commissioned for this amazing project.

07.01.2022 In the studio, making cups, listening to the beautiful, calming voice of Roman Mars on 99% Invisible podcast talking about architecture critic Michael Sorkin who wrote an inspiring list called " Two Hundred and Fifty Things an Architect Should Know. " A list that includes........................ 1. The feel of cool marble under bare feet. 2. How to live in a small room with five strangers for six months.... 3. With the same strangers in a lifeboat for one week. 4. The modulus of rupture. 5. The distance a shout carries in the city. 28. The rate at which that carpet you specified off-gasses. 29. The relevant sections of the Code of Hammurabi. 30. The migratory patterns of warblers and other seasonal travellers. 31. The basics of mud construction. 32. The direction of prevailing winds. Listen to this to ease your heartache........ (Michael Sorkin died in March from complications associated with covid 19) Thank you Roman Mars and Michael Sorkin. https://99percentinvisible.org//the-smell-of-concrete-aft/

03.01.2022 We all need one another. Artists raised hundreds of thousands of dollars recently to donate to bushfire victims and organisations supporting wildlife and recove...ry and now the artists of Australia need you. We will keep making art and recording our crazy, beautiful world and we need you to share art, talk about it, look at it and buy it. Artists are small business but big voices. The front bowl "Hirundo Neoxena (rocking bowl) - wheel thrown porcelain, underglaze, oxide, terra sigillata, glaze, 16 x 27 x 27cm" is the last rocking bowl left from my exhibition at @beavergalleries.
