25.01.2022 Are we returning our ACL reconstruction athletes too soon? There is always a push to return athletes to play as quickly as possible with accelerated ACL rehab programs as fast as 6 to 7 months. However, it has been established that athletes returning from an ACL reconstruction exhibit neuromuscular and biomechanical deficits resulting in altered landing patterns. This is the first paper looking at tennis players, although it involved junior players and a small sample size it has reported similar findings to other studies examing the acute:chronic workload ratio. Essentially, if your current weeks work load increases by 50% or more... your risk of injury in the subsequent week increases.
