25.01.2022 Excited to be able to announce that Shannon's Bridge will be hosting a virtual Art Therapy program with the lovely Sally LeGuen. During this time of isolation and restrictions Sally warmly invites you to wake up and refresh your senses. Email [email protected] to reserve your spot and for further details on this virtual program or assistance with Zoom. Nature weaving is an easy process to do at home that will assist with slowing down your thoughts and be present with your experience. All you need are things that you can find around your home, backyard or nature strip and the ability to join through Zoom.

23.01.2022 Thanks to Mayflower Brighton for donating 5 hospital beds to help people be more comfortable in their own home. Mayflower is a not-for-profit provider of residential aged care, home care and retirement living options with services in the bayside and northern suburbs of Melbourne. In a journey spanning more than 50 years, the organisation has developed a strong reputation for delivering responsive and innovative services that enhance independence, wellbeing and lifestyle for ...older Australians. https://www.mayflower.org.au/aged-care/mayflower-brighton/

22.01.2022 We work with hospitals and aged care facilities who give us their second hand equipment. This equipment is all working and in good condition. Hospital beds, wheel chairs, 4 wheel walkers, commodes, hoists and other movement aids are some of the equipment we receive. This equipment is either loaned to families in need where unfortunately they cannot access it for various reasons or we donate it to community groups or health services who for geographic, budgetary or lots of ot...her reasons haven’t got it. We’ve delivered equipment to organisations throughout Victoria from Mildura to Mallacoota and numerous places in between. We can only do this because wonderful volunteers have donated their time , energy, transport and ideas to make all of this happen. We have LOTS more equipment which we are very happy to give to other community groups wherever they may be. Please call us if you need some equipment! We would also love to hear from anyone in Victoria or NSW who may have some storage space that we could access to house more equipment. We are being offered more all of the time and we don’t take it , it is destroyed!! Thanks again to everyone who helps Shannon’s Bridge you make an incredible difference. See more

21.01.2022 Many thanks to David Poole and Adam for their marathon efforts over the last few weeks. The fountain and paths are almost done and Kaye’s Herb Garden is taking shape. So wonderful to see the progress. David and his family are excited to get this ready for people to enjoy in the warmer weather. Thank you David and Adam!

21.01.2022 If you or your community can find storage space for a few essential items, Shannon’s Bridge can provide you with an ‘essentials kit’ of equipment for your community to loan in times of need. Even a single loan of this equipment for a week would save family over $200, give them more time with their family and help our health and community services to stretch further. If you or your organisation are interested, please contact Jeremy McKnight (0448827956, [email protected]) for more details. There are additional items that might be able to be donated to areas on request (sling hoists, electric lift chairs, electric wheelchairs etc).

21.01.2022 Not content with beautifully handcrafted blankets, bags and toys, Jean has now created these gorgeous ‘mask traps‘ that keep the ear loops away from the back of the ears. Brilliant idea! Thanks Jean

21.01.2022 Feliz día de los Muertos! Saturday is All Saints Day and a time to celebrate the lives of the children who have died and to honour their memory. Their sprite return to us at midnight tonight and stay for 24 hours. The Ofrenda below is made to respect the traditions of this Mexican cultural celebration and has three levels and elements representing Earth (food including Pan de Muerto), Water (drinks), Fire (candles) and Air (fragile paper flowers and banners or papel picado). There are also sugar skulls (calavera), marigolds, incense, salt and butterflies along with pictures of our loved ones and spiritual iconography.

21.01.2022 David Poole and his wonderful family of artists painted rainbows on the shipping container . And Di Lehne and her helpers are busy painting a beautiful mural as well. So much colour and wonderful things happening. Even the site supervisor was impressed - woof woof. Soon to come, artwork from Creswick primary, pizza ovens, gazebo, labyrinth.....Thank you again to everyone involved.

21.01.2022 Happy Dying 2 Know Day!! I know it is the last thing people want to be focused on (especially in Victoria) but the benefit of talking this stuff out before crunch time is gold - for you, your family and your doctors. Check out the answers on the shannonsbridge website. ... https://www.shannonsbridge.com/what-are-you-dying-2-know

16.01.2022 Can you help? One area that Shannon’s Bridge tries to help is with equipment. People in Pallative care who are in hospital might be unable to go home unless they have a particular piece of equipment such as a hospital bed. Or people being cared for at home who’s situation is changing where they will only be able to stay at home unless they have a particular piece of equipment. That’s where we come in. Shannon’s Bridge works with a number of hospitals, aged care facilities and... also families who donate equipment to us. We then loan or give this equipment out to families, community groups or health care services who desperately need it. Everything we do is for free. Our equipment arm at Shannon’s Bridge has grown as you can see from the photos . We deliver equipment all over Victoria, Australia and across the world too. We were using utes or trailers but have had to use removalist companies as demands keep increasing but the costs of this ad up. We need a delivery van but have no budget to buy one. Ideally a Sprinter would be great but hey beggars can’t be choosers! Do you know of anyone who may be able to help us with this? As Shannon’s Bridge has its DGR status we can issue to tax receipt to the value on a donation. A van would allow us to continue to do what we are doing plus allow us to grow and help more people. So if you do know of anyone that my be able to help that would be wonderful.

15.01.2022 Because of the recent COVID-19 outbreak, life has become more complicated and for many of us, more frightening. The ‘normal’ way we live has been altered, our connection to the way things were has been changed or lost and we are uncertain what the future holds. It is normal to be experiencing many different emotions at this time.

15.01.2022 Check out the resources for supporting your coping during COVID online or talk with your GP.

14.01.2022 Many people will be "Zoomed out" but this wonderful initiative by Calvary and the inspirational Karen Bolger is really worth engaging with. Shannon's Bridge was fortunate to be part of a trial with this format and it is a brilliant experience. In Pre-COVID times these are usually done over dinner or some drinks with your nearest and dearest. However, you can still make great connections over Zoom and Claire laughed so hard in her group that she was crying.

14.01.2022 we packed our new storage facility which yesterday . The new area is larger and more accessible which will allow us to store, loan and give away more equipment to those in need . Huge thanks to Alan for his efforts in this.

13.01.2022 Thanks to the Ballarat Courier for their support and article. Jeremy was a little embarrassed to be asked to pose with a rake as we know that the real workers are David Poole and his family. There have been lots of people donating items for the garden or offering their expertise and we thank them too! However at the moment David Poole and his family are the ones who are getting the ‘hardscape’ of the garden ready for planting and enjoying. Thanks again David - we know you don’t do it for recognition, but we want everyone to know how much we love your work!

12.01.2022 The residents at Creswick Health Nursing Home were delighted to be able to hand over painted garden pavers and a wind chime for the new sensory garden at Shannon's Bridge. Kevin Eastman pictured with one of his bird houses, has worked hard to make and sell the birdhouses to staff and resident’s families to be able to purchase the wind chime and Belle Moules along with some other residents designed and painted garden pavers during their weekly garden club session. Thank you to all the residents and staff that made this donation possible. The pavers and the wind chime are very important additions to our Sensory Garden.

12.01.2022 A HUGE thank you to Harry from Charlton Lions who met with Alan to pick up some equipment. Charlton Lions now has a hospital bed, 2 x wheel chairs , over the toilet chair and 4WW. This equipment will be given or loaned to anyone who needs it in the Charlton area. Many Lions Groups are collecting equipment from us to do exactly the same thing in their area. Shannon’s Bridge has always been incredibly grateful to Lions for their ongoing support. This is just another example of that.

06.01.2022 Thanks to the delightful person or people who made a split second decision to smash the front window at the End of Life Care Hub in Creswick overnight. Your actions have resulted in many things. Don’t worry about the time you have taken us away from caring for people who are dying or grieving. Don’t worry that the glass sprayed through gift bags that were going to be given out to the Aged Care workers who are working on the COVID frontline and will now have to all be redone.... Don’t even worry that some of the donated toys might have to be thrown out in case they have glass shards in them that we can’t clean. We want to thank you for giving us the opportunity to be grateful. Grateful that it doesn’t look like anyone was injured. Grateful that we have the means to pay for the damage. Grateful that we can keep on caring for people who are caring, dying or grieving. You broke the window - you cannot break us. You aren’t worth our energy when there are people out there doing wonderful compassionate things and we will concentrate on them. Thank you

06.01.2022 We recently received some pavers that Melanie Scott and the residents at the Creswick Nursing Home painted up for our sensory garden. Absolutely beautiful. These will be corner pieces of our labyrinth. And our volunteer Jordyn is painting the back fence for us. We’ve never seen anyone smile so much when they are painting, thank you so much for all of your time and hard work.

05.01.2022 Jordyn and her Dad Peter worked extremely hard to undercoat the fence for us and Rebecca painted some panels yesterday in 40 degree heat! It’s such a busy time of year for everyone so we greatly appreciate people donating their time and efforts. Thank you so much to everyone .

04.01.2022 Tim and Collette Haymes (from Haymes Paints) are incredibly nice people and donated to us last year and again this year they have donated all the paint we needed to complete the fence and shipping container out the back of the hub. Steve from Haymes has just dropped off the paint and gave us loads of advice. Wonderful warm people with a sincere desire to help.

04.01.2022 www.ted.com/talks/dr_julian_abel_why_compassion_matters - A very simply explanation for why compassion matters and he presents the evidence that it works. It certainly isn't rocket science, but if a drug company invented it - they would be overnight billionaires as well as reduce suffering and hospital admissions worldwide.

02.01.2022 Starting to green up! Thanks to David Poole, Donna Jenkins, Jules Oroboros, Raylene Janes-Knowles, Claire Clancy and Suzanne Cooke for their beautiful donation of herbs and plants for our sensory garden

02.01.2022 Thanks to our beautiful volunteers the Garden is steaming ahead. David Poole and his band of tireless workers have done an amazing job with the painting, gardens and fountain. We wish we had their energy. So many people have offered time, items or advice which makes this so very special. Watching the wind sculpture designed and made by David and Margaret Forster move gently is so relaxing. Thank you so much . Not to mention Don, Graeme and Jen who do all the Facebook stuff wh...ich everyone knows Claire and I are useless at! Thank you. The garden isn’t even finished yet it is already having the desired effect. People are stopping, taking a breath and gazing . We are very fortunate to have such beautiful people helping us. See more
