24.01.2022 NOURISHMENT - Mama, I see you eating the crusts of your kids breakfast plate and thinking it counts as a meal, I see you snacking on corn cakes or a handful of nuts while you’re stuck on the couch feeding. You’re wrangling the kiddos to kinder and back again, juggling your new bub, doing the school pick up, sorting everyone else out making sure they have the healthy breakfasts, lunches and dinners. I know your kiddos are fussy, carb munching monsters and I know the last thi...ng you feel like for dinner is meat and three veg or spaghetti.. again!! . You’re craving a meal with all the good things. It’s wholesome, deeply nurturing and made with the perfect ingredients to meet you where you’re at. It fills you up on every level. This is not just food to shove in your gob and fill hole. No way! That’s not how I roll. This is the food just for you. I come to you, I make exactly what you need, I leave you with food to delight, nourish and soothe you. . I have opened up a day a week for mama meal support. message me if you’d like more information

20.01.2022 The Mandala Of Birth is a practical guide for birthing people and birth workers, to explore the transformation that occurs crossing the threshold to motherhood. . I created the Mandala of Birth to act as a bridge to the inner world of pregnancy and birth. To help scratch the surface and shine the light on what’s ready to be seen. Pregnancy and birth is a great opportunity to dive into the depths of ourselves. This is a time like no other when we are more open and aware to wha...t is arising within us. And with this awareness comes power. Power to make choices, make decisions, to let go and to take control of your birthing experience. . 16.01.2022 Happy international women’s day. I feel truely blessed to be a woman. To be able to tune in to my innate cyclic nature, to be able to bring life forth, to be a mirror of nature’s cycles and seasons. To know the power and medicine of this. I am still learning to to know that what I bring as a woman has value, that I am enough and I have spent many years unravelling my internal patriarchy and I have no doubt many more to come. .... I know that how I feel and the way I get to approach being a woman is not all women’s story. So today I would like to honour all women in the struggle of finding themselves, knowing their worth in a situation that potentially tells them otherwise. For the women who are oppressed, in difficult circumstances, don’t feel like there is a way out or any light. I see you, I honour you, you are worthy. . May we all keep showing up in whatever way we can and remembering who we are in what ever way we can for the benefit of each other

15.01.2022 Here she is! Finally up and ready to be in the world. I’d love for you to go and check out what I’m all about . Link in my bio

14.01.2022 A BREASTFEEDING JOURNEY This mamas birth journey didn’t go how she thought it would, as is often the way. She worked hard, she meet her edges and honoured her capacity. And then her breastfeeding journey started out a little shaky. . This photo was taken on day 4 when mama and bub were admitted back into hospital because bub had lost a lot of weight. Mama’s milk still hasn’t come in. Her bub was given formula for 48hrs to get her weight back up and then they were sent bac...k home. During that 48hrs mama was pumping round the clock. We talked about feelings of failure, she cried, she held her baby skin to skin, she blocked everyone and everything out and focused on the job at hand. Feeding her baby. . When they got home she kept pumping. Every feed she would put bub to the breast, then she would top her up with expressed breastmilk (she could only ever express 30mls at a time) and if bub was still hungry she would top her up with formula, put bub to sleep and then pump. Mama would set her alarm for 3 hours and repeat the process, night and day for weeks. . Bub was gaining weight This Mama sought out her breastfeeding drop in centres, listened to her MCHN and also started to listen to her intuition. . We talked about feeding on demand About the changes in a mother’s brain when she has a baby. How when we go through this transition our brain changes, wiring us for nurturing, connection, loving and learning through intuition. How when we become mothers there is a shift that happens - we move from a goal oriented, linear, doing, masculine way of being into a more intuitive state, one of deeper connection, slowness, flow and feminine qualities. . Baby was still gaining weight So mama slowly reduced topping bub up. She stopped setting the alarm. She paid close attention to her bub, feeling into what she needed. Put her to the breast whenever she felt she needed to. She stopped expressing. She stopped topping up. And I just spoke to her, bub has put on 300g in a week She did it! . Ending the week on a high for this mama and her sweet girl

09.01.2022 I completely agree with @brittabushnellphd that birth deserves ritual action and spiritual reflection. . I used to think ritual had to be grand and theatrical nearly like a performance of sorts - which it absolutely can be but this is so not who I am and therefore I had written ritual off to the drama types. Until I started the four seasons journey @janehardwickecollings which was a year long journey of ritual Some of these were grand and theatrical and absolutely perfec...t and some were simple and profound. I got to experience how ritual and reflection allows us to acknowledges and honour a transition, a transformation. And when we do this an alignment happens, things move and shift to make way for a wholehearted way forward Repost @brittabushnellphd "A major difficulty with giving birth in North America is that there is no adequate language for it or for other spiritually significant events. The language of how-to books on birth is either biomedical or psychological. Before the twentieth century, birth was not even considered a proper subject of conversations. If birth is hardly a topic at all, it should not be surprising that it is seldom the topic of spiritual reflection or ritual action." -- Ronald L. Grimes (ritual specialist and one of my dissertation advisors from his book Deeply into the Bone: Re-inventing Rites of Passage) . I believe birth is absolutely a topic of conversation (just hang out with me and you'll see just how much of a topic I think it is!) And, I think it absolutely deserves ritual action and spiritual reflection...far more than it currently gets. . When you read "ritual action" and "spiritual reflection" what comes to mind? How would you imagine bringing both of these to your birthing experience? . . . . . . #birth #birthquotes #motherhood #mother #parenthood #spirituality #howto #howtobirth #pregnancy #maternity #maternityphotography #maternityphotoshoot #mama #lionessmama

08.01.2022 t#Repost @blissful.herbs THIRD STAGE: releasing the placenta. . . This a lovely example of how third stage works. Here's my tips:... . . * Don't rush it. Mother needs to catch her breath and come back into her body, and bonding is the priority straight after birth: uninterrupted skin to skin . . * Don't disturb those precious birth hormones, such as oxytocin, which causes the uterus to involute, the placenta to come away and bleeding to be reduced: no hatting, no patting, no chatting, no texting; warmth, dim lighting, privacy, soft voices . . * Read Gloria Lemay's thoughts on the 30 Minute Third Stage. This is a common time frame for the placenta to come away. However, don't be hooked up by rigid time frames. We've waited as long as 7 hours for a placenta to come (obviously, while carefully monitoring for any issues). . . * Watch for the signs your placenta is ready to come - a few cramps, heaviness in your bum, restlessness, lengthening of the cord slightly, a show of blood. When you visualize yourself giving birth - visualise your safe, uneventful third stage too. . . * Use gravity and position - just like this mama. A change of position (such as climbing out of the birth pool, or walking to the toilet) will often do it. Keep warm, though. . . * Emotional release often facilitates placental release. Let it out, Mama. You did it. . . The only person pulling (very gently) on the cord should be the mother, IMO. Usually such traction is quite unnecessary. It might be appropriate if the mother feels her placenta is "right there" and she notices a little "give" when she gently uses traction. If there's any resistance: stop. And wait. . . * Herbs such as Angelica and Motherwort, as in my Placenta Release Tincture, may have their place (and are usually not necessary). . . Reposted from @birthofamama - . . . BIRTHING THE TREE OF LIFE ~ from @restore_midwifery When left uninterrupted, after the baby is born... the mama has more contractions that push the placenta out of the uterus. This upright position is a great position to birth the placenta because it uses gravity. In this video you see the mama gently helping the placenta out of the yoni. ( via @parteramidwifery

05.01.2022 FOOD AS MEDICINE MATERNAL FERMENTED FOOD INTAKE & ECZEMA IN INFANTS /// If you're pregnant or nursing, you are actively passing microbes to your baby via the placenta, birth (vaginal flora), skin to skin and breast milk. This can have lasting effects on your baby's immune system, risk for allergies, eczema & more. .... Before the advent of probiotic supplements, FOOD was a major source of good bacteria and microbes in our lives. In fact, some traditionally fermented foods can contain MORE probiotics than supplements. Take sauerkraut juice as an example, which boasts 1.5 trillion CFU per Tbsp. . In one study, researchers analyzed intake of traditionally fermented foods among Turkish women in pregnancy and tracked whether their infants developed atopic dermatitis (aka eczema) in the first 2 years of life. In the group that consumed fermented foods on a daily basis (which included yogurt, fermented olives, kefir, and cheese), their infants had significantly lower rates of eczema. The greater the diversity of fermented foods included in the diet, the lower the infants’ risk. . With 5-20% of infants affected by eczema, anything you can do to reduce this risk is huge. One piece of the puzzle is taking care of your microbiome before, during, and after pregnancy. That starts with a diet of unprocessed real foods (including fermented foods!) and avoidance of antibiotics unless absolutely medically necessary. The benefit of fermented foods is that they naturally have prebiotic fiber that supports their survival & delivery to your gut. Every region has different fermented foods, so don’t feel like you *have* to eat one particular food. Try many different types and find which ones you like most. . Learn more information on probiotics in #realfoodforpregnancy. There's now loads of data behind the importance of healthy maternal and infant microbiomes. 02.01.2022 EPIDURAL - Rhea Dempsey @rheadempsey_birthingwisdom talks of the epidural as the Trojan Horse in the birth space. When the epidural first became available midwives and doulas celebrated the arrival knowing that mothers could now be awake during cesarean births which was and still is incredible but what has happened over time is the overuse of this medical tool. . While in some cases it is an absolute blessing allowing the mother to reset and for her body to relax and make wa...y for the baby (often the case for induced births when contractions are coming hard and fast or for really long labours and the mother is exhausted) but the seduction of the epidural can lull us into a false sense of security. Once the epidural is done the woman comes back into her thinking brain, everyone breathes a sigh of relief that she is normal again, the lights go on, phones come out, chatter goes up and paperwork is being filled in. BUT there is still hard work to be done. With the absence of pain and the mother back in her normal thinking brain we can forget there is still a physiological process going on that requires our attention. If you find yourself in this situation know that there are loads of things you and your support team can do to assist your body and baby. . Turn the lights off, lower your voices, rest, sleep, eat, breath slowly and deeply, connect with your baby, use affirmations, put a meditation on, visualise your body and cervix opening and softening, use a peanut ball to help with positioning, use the rebozo to keep the energy moving. All of these things and more can help to keep the space sacred and honour you body and your baby. #Repost @mymidwives Sometimes our kit needs to include a few ‘extra’ tools! Hopefully this fast forward will take away a few of the fears around epidural! Whilst there are pros and cons it is important to talk to your care provider about when and why to use an epidural. For those of us used to physiological birth this may not be our first go to tool in labour but there are sure times where it is needed!!! #epidural #labour #labourtools #labourtoolkit #mymidwivesfamily Repost @hope_escobar_
