25.01.2022 RIP Sean Connery Thanks for the wonderful characters you played.

20.01.2022 What absolutely fantastic news to wake up to! This morning it was announced that Sir Tom Hunter - philanthropist, entrepreneur and founder of @THunterFoundation... - has donated 1 million in support of Paul Harvey's charity single, Four Notes. The money will be split between Alzheimer's Society and @MusicForDementiaUK. Paul, a talented musician, is living with dementia but that hasn't stopped him creating new music. With support from his son Nick, the pair recorded Four Notes with the BBC Philharmonic orchestra, releasing the single on Sunday 1 November in support of the two charities. Sir Tom - who lost both his parents to dementia - saw Paul perform on BBC Breakfast and was moved by his story. 'You lit up the screen with, first of all the relationship between the father and the son, and then the relationship with music. We really believe music is a key. We believe you're on to something and we really want to help.' Thank you so much from all of us to Paul, Nick and Sir Tom! Read more: https://bbc.in/3257lW0
20.01.2022 Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around. Leo Buscaglia Alphonse Mucha

13.01.2022 ‘I’m inspired by and in awe of my mother, Thelma Voilima Gray her sense of adventure, determination, resilience and ambition. ‘As a single woman, Mum left ev...erything and everyone in Kingston, Jamaica. She flew across the Atlantic in 1954, away from friends and family, to set up a new life on a different continent. ‘Life in London wasn’t what she expected, and two years later now married she put her dreams on hold and focused on her children. ‘Mum’s plan was to become a trained hairdresser with her own salon. For a Black woman with a young family, owning a salon was out of the question. So a corner in one of the two rooms we lived in provided the space to run her hairdressing business. ‘In 1990 my sister started to notice Mum changing. She seemed more anxious than usual, worrying about things that wouldn’t normally get her flustered. We thought it might have been the menopause. But then she started to lose keys and get locked out of the house. Not long after, she was diagnosed with dementia caused by diabetes. ‘My sister made the decision that Mum would move in with her. Something brilliant happened. My sister’s house was full of children, grandchildren, nephews, nieces and friends who visited frequently. There was noise and bustle, which turned out to be the best place imaginable for Mum. She thrived in that environment. ‘Eventually, managing Mum’s diabetes became a huge challenge and she was in and out of hospital. Her dementia accelerated until she became bed bound. She passed away at home with her family around her in January 2015. ‘In 2019, I was appointed Mayoress of Lewisham, which was quite unexpected. I feel my mother is with me all the time. She equipped me with the skills and sense of responsibility to take forward her legacy of being fair, doing the right thing by people and enabling the next generation to be the best they can be.’ As #BlackHistoryMonth comes to an end, we hope you’ve enjoyed the powerful and inspirational stories of Black people affected by dementia we’ve shared with you.
