25.01.2022 Sharing Places has started a new skills development cafe called Sharing Delights. Participants from different teams have been taking orders from around the Pearce Centre, making fantastic coffees and delivering them back to the offices. The Cafe has been a hit so far with everyone and we are looking forward to the grand opening on iDay on December 3 at the Pearce Centre. Come along and bring a gold coin donation and grab a coffee and some cake!

23.01.2022 The Tennent team have taken on the job of cleaning the main kitchen area at Pearce, earning the participants some extra spending money. The team have created a roster for everyone to do a different task every day. Duties include, wiping the bench or table, stacking or emptying the dishwasher, sweeping or mopping the floor, taking out the rubbish, collecting milk from the shops and placing them in the fridge. Everyone takes pride in what they are doing and are vigilant in the work they do. Keep up the good week team!

23.01.2022 The Boronia team have been busy with the paint. Here are Louise and Benjamin expressing their creativity.

22.01.2022 The Arawang team recently started a cooking activity for the participants to learn new skills. We started off with something simple but exciting. Hywel did a wonderful job in turning the sausages until it was nicely cooked. Lucinda on the other hand did fantastic work in making her own sausage sandwich.

21.01.2022 UPDATE: Friday 10 January 3:40pm We urge all #Canberrans to be mindful of the some 65,000 people in Canberra with a form of disability who may be your neighbour...s, family and friends. Please SHARE this post. If someone you know is not on social media, please talk to them. Check in with your neighbours and community. People with a disability may be more vulnerable, isolated, not have access to information as easily, and may require more assistance in an emergency if they have mobility issues, or other disabilities. 19.01.2022 Ashlee from the Boronia team loves ball games. In July, she went to a baseball clinic to learn a bit about the game and have a go. She had a great time. Huge thanks to Diverse Baseball Canberra for organising the event and the Canberra Cavalry for being there and making it such a special day.

16.01.2022 Yesterday we held the launch for Sharing Delights Cafe Skills Development Program in conjunction with iDay, it was a great success with a huge turnout. Many thanks to all that came to support the event and a huge thanks to staff for their hard work in preparing for the day, also to staff and friends of Sharing Places who provided the beautiful cakes. A special thanks to our wonderful baristas Tim and Pekky and all the participants for their continued enthusiasm and hard work.

16.01.2022 In this hot weather it is sometimes wiser to stay inside. The Boronia team have kept busy with reading and sensory items.

15.01.2022 Brindabella team saw the return of a client who had been away and also had a few December birthdays coming up, which seemed a good reason to have a celebration of the non Christmas variety!

14.01.2022 Air Quality and Fire Threat The ACT is currently experiencing some extreme weather conditions and poor air quality and Sharing Places is very mindful of everyone’s safety during this time. A State of Alert has been declared for the Territory by the ACT Government. It’s great to know that the ACT Emergency Services Agency are being very vigilant in their efforts to be prepared for any emergencies and are supporting Territorians to be prepared as well. More information on wh...at the State of Alert for the ACT means can be obtained here https://esa.act.gov.au/state-alert-declared-act-0. Sharing Places is going ahead with business as usual during this time but we will be monitoring the conditions on a daily basis, and we encourage you all to do the same. With weather conditions and air quality changing quickly, we will endeavour to respond quickly to those changing conditions. We will be limiting outdoor activities during times of extreme heat or poor air quality, but if you have any concerns please contact the Team/Program Coordinator to discuss options for your loved ones the more information we have the better we can support participants.

14.01.2022 Sharon and Mike went along to the Woden School Expo last night and chatted to parents and young people who are looking at their options once they graduate from school. Thank you to Sharon and Mike for going along and manning our stand.

12.01.2022 The Boronia cooking program is a team effort. The gang go out to the shops and pick out some lovely fresh produce. Then they hone their money handling skills to complete the purchase. Back at base, the food prep skills get a work out.

06.01.2022 Therapy day in Boronia. Angela seems to be enjoying her massage from Huong and Sam is spending some time in his standing frame. The standing frame gives his postural muscles a good workout and helps his joints and bones to stay strong. It also allows Sam to interact with people in a more natural manner while getting a different perspective on the world.

02.01.2022 Due to the smoke and heat, we have been trying to stay indoors as much as possible. This week, some teams have been utilising the hall at Pearce for Sportsability programs.

01.01.2022 Sharing Places have teamed up with Carers ACT who have provided us with the funding to put together 71 packs for people caring for people with disabilities in the family home. SPI staff and clients have been busy purchasing, sorting, personalising, packing and delivering all the goodies in the activity packs. The pack is aimed at providing families with activities and ideas to keep people active and entertained. A special thank you to Inni and Veronica who did most of the organising and purchasing of items.
